The Stones, in my humble opinion, may just be the greatest band ever. Clearly a rock ‘n roll band their catalog includes rock, blues, R&B, ballads, riff guitar rock, acoustic guitar with excursions into country, reggae, disco/funk, club music. Whatever the style the were always the Stones and they played great.

The Stones have been kickin' and dragging music in different directions since 1965, that almost 60 years. I can't imagine how many songs they've released or laid down on records. Old Dawgs still killing it.
"Dance (Pt. 1)" is the opening track of their 1980 "Emotional Rescue" album and reached top 10 on the dance charts. Other dance songs at the time were "Emotional Rescue" and "Miss You" from their previous album "Some Girls" (1978). "If I Was a Dancer (Dance Pt. 2)" was released the following year in 1981 on their compilation "Sucking in the Seventies"
That time The Stones went through a Disco phase… And killed it. Have you heard The Stones do country? Yeah, they have that in their repertoire as well.
The Stones "Hot Stuff" is another super funky song. The Stones got a lot of rhythm and funk in many of their songs. James Brown is Mick Jaggers idol 🤷♂️.
I have to agree. They didn't delve into prog much, but I can't think of a band as diverse in scope. Beatles were a bit light on R&B funk, especially compared to Stones.
I always liked this song (both parts), as it perfectly encapsulates the ethos of the sleazy NYC dance scene of the 1970s. That said, I hope these guys commit to complete album reactions of the Stones, as their body of work warrants a deeper dive, especially from 1966 to 1973. I wouldn't jump around until finishing that golden run from Beggars Banquet to Exile on Main Street.
Great Choice! I always dug this song, it's got that 70's disco groove. The Stones were incredibly adaptive. Love your channel! They really may be the greatest Rock N Roll band. They do it all.
Great reaction. This is what differentiates the Stones from all other bands . They can master anything from rock to disco and it’s always got their own unique style. A band the likes of which shall never be seen again.
You are wrong - Not The Beatles - NO band is more diverse, stretches a longer arm into different genre's or has created genre's like The Beatles. No other band has plowed a road(s) bigger, wider, grander then what The Beatles did in the 60's (during the fastest growing musical decade of all time). What The Beatles did in 8 years, the Stones still can't do in 60. The Stones are the worlds greatest (FOLLOWERS), with a pedophile/rapist singing the songs!
"Dance (Pt. 1)" was released as the first track on Emotional Rescue in June 1980. Although not released as a single, the song reached No. 9 on Billboard's Dance chart. Ultimate Classic Rock ranked the song as the 81st best Rolling Stones song, saying "If you think there was something wrong - as some fans contend - with the Rolling Stones dabbling in dance and disco rhythms as powerfully and capably as they do on ‘Dance (Pt. 1),’ the opening track to their 1980 album ‘Emotional Rescue,’ we’d like to invite you to explain it to us."[2] Alternate versions A second part of the song, entitled "If I Was A Dancer (Dance Pt. 2)," appeared on the compilation album Sucking in the Seventies. Wood said of the song's multiple parts, "We did have various alternative mixes going at the time, but I can't really tell the difference between Part I or Part II or Part III. It was just a novelty, the Pt. 1 bit."[1] There are major differences, however; Part II has an extended bridge: instead of only saying the chorus of "It's time to get up, get out... get into something new" it also goes into lines such as, "If I were a woman, I would need a new man every night... If I was a movie star, five million dollars would be my price... If I was a trucker, I'd drive for seven days and seven lonely nights" followed by "if" he were a "hooker" and even "The President."
Dance Pt 1 was on Emotional Rescue, which to me is the better song because the instrumentation is not buried in the back. The interplay of the bass, drums, guitars is excellent. Personally, I think the 70s found the Stones picking up their game tecnically, getting into complex soul, funk, and jazz elements. Dance Pt. 2 was on Sucking in the 70s, a compilation record.
I'm a huge Stones' fan and If I Was a Dancer and Dance (pt.1) are among my favourite songs. If I was a billionaire I'd spend all my money One one Crazy night
The Stones had several disco style tunes in the late 70s. The most famous has to be "Miss You", which most people will recognize right away. In fact that whole album Some Girls is a must-hear.

Their album Tattoo You was their strongest 80s album....LOVE me some old-school Stones - but, that album was FIRE, to me!! Slave, Little T&A, Black Limousine, Neighbours, Waiting On A Friend, and Start Me Up were some of my favs on there...I think a lot of Stones fans rejected this album, as it was "of its time"...but, I thought it was FIRE (like almost everything else they EVER DID: RIGHT??!!!) 😍 Love your channel, Guys!! Thanks for the good times and takin' some deep dives that many don't!! HUGS! ❤❤❤❤❤
I remember that. Tattoo You was definitely not appreciated when it dropped. Thing was that other bands were dropping masterpieces left and right. Even top bands like Stones could get upstaged by opening acts they toured with. It happened. Black Sabbath and Rush didn't take long going from opening acts to headliners. Bands like the Stones leaned into dance club music while Pink Floyd was doling out epic mind journeys with symphonic arrangements never heard by humans before. The Stones did great. They were themselves. I never had Stones as my top band, but I know people who do. Nothing wrong with that at all.
@@Greg-io1ipTattoo You was appreciated for what it was: an album of outtakes to give them something to tour on, with one great single (“Start Me Up”), that was also an outtake from 1978, ‘Some Girls’, I think. “Waiting On a Friend” was from 1972! Nicky Hopkins plays the wonderful piano on it. The thing is, the Stones’ outtakes are better than most bands’ prime cuts.

Dance part 1 1980 Part 2 1981
Funkier than starsky's cardigan. ..funky chicken around the house😂
Was Bill Wyman playing bass ? If so then the most uncool dude playing very funky bass. Ohh the duality of man........................
I really like this track but it's an unusual choice to say the least! If you dig it then check out the song "Miss You" - it was a huge hit back in the disco era.
Also, I like "Dance Part 1" better than part 2. Although they are similar, part 1 has more polish as well as catchy backing vocals that are absent from this version.
Huh, you guys are getting into some stones deep tracks. Disco/funk stones style. 1979/1980 sessions. Can't really go wrong with any stones prior to 1981. But alas, the classic Rolling Stones music is from 1968 to 1973.
Even Alice Cooper did a disco song, "gotta dance"
Robert Plant "29" palms"
Hae you done "Miss You" yet?
