I love how they're staying true to Richard's musical arrangement. It's a given that Tori is going to sing beautifully, but kudos to everyone else for knocking that arrangement out of the park.
We've Only Just Begun.. it all started with a commercial for a southern California Bank. The original commercial is on RUclips. Writer Paul Williams is the singer for the commercial. This is the song that launched his career. When Richard Carpenter heard it he called Paul to ask if there were more verses. It became the Carpenters 2nd big hit and history was made. I remember all of it. I come from southern California and remember the commercial. ...("Classic Commercial - "The Crocker Bank" - 1970")
LMAO... You ladies are fun. Thank You. Donna is right We've Only Just Begun is an iconic song. This cover sounds just like the Carpenters. It was Richard that did the arrangements and found the tech that multiplies their voices so they could be their own back up singers. The dynamic between Donna & Kathy reminds me of the dynamic between me and my daughter.
@@KathyLuluandDonna Your welcome. My daughter does that to me sometimes but we are very close . She Is a "Daddy's Girl". We are so close that when she was born I knew she was the next baby to come through the doors from the delivery room. It's all good.
Googled: The Carpenters' "We've Only Just Begun" was released in September 1970 and reached number one on the Cash Box singles chart and number two on the Billboard Hot 100. The song was Karen Carpenter's lead vocal with overdubbed harmonies from her brother Richard, and spent nine weeks in the top 10. It was the duo's second million-selling gold single and is often played at weddings. Karen and Richard considered the song to be their signature song.
Yes Ms Kathy, Indeed Donna is spot on! ❤ The Carpenters top 10 songs, or more, are in fact "iconic" pop songs of the early 1970s. And indeed "We've Only Just Begun" is truly pop perfection. Glad you enjoyed both the tune and Tori Holub's incredible rendition. Cheers 🥂
Guys! Believe it or not, Tori's an audio engineer. She works with multitrack decks and software to create her own overdubbing on myriad covers she did all by herself before she collaborated with Jim on this one. Oh yeah, she sings too! Obviously, Jim is a wizard with audio electronics and musical instruments. Not only that, but he painstakingly put this whole thing together, which must've been maddening. I've seen covers before, but not this detailed. Oh, and for Mom, she might understand how well this was done if you listened to the Carpenters' version. OK, so you've heard how beautifully Tori goes into Karen's deep contralto range. Well, Dan Wesley and Tori just put out a cover of "Suddenly," which was done by Cliff Richard and Olivia Newton-John. So, after Tori's gone low, she now goes high into Olivia's soprano range, and she hits the notes without even needing to use a falsetto. Dan is a brilliant engineer and musician, and he arranged this rather difficult John Farrar song.
Sorry Kathy, but Donna and Lulu are 100% correct. The song is most certainly iconic and even more iconic was Karen's voice. Donna nailed every aspect about the song's appeal and the impact it has had over the years. She accurately characterized the difficulty anyone would have in attempting to capture the spirit of Karen's voice but she rightfully gave Tori immensely due credit, as you all did, for her amazing talent and tribute. Very enjoyable reaction, thank you.
The song that LAUNCHED the CAPENTERS career and Tori Holub sounds alot like Karen Carpenter clear and distinct vocals she is a great singer A very good cover of a classic
Your review was nice how you liked Tori as a singer but you missed the point of how spot on she sounds like Karen Carpenter's angelic voice. Amazing like she is born again.
KAREN 💕 Among my top 5 favorite female singers!! MONK Was AWESOME!! Tori! I'd probably watch her live as a Carpenters cover band. Soooo Kathy 🤨 Mother is right!! If it was on The Best Of The Carpenters (as this was) sung by the Legendary Karen Carpenter,, it's automatic! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎
Hi Ladies! Thank you for this marvelous reaction to this ICONIC song! 😃 I knew Donna was going to know it, Lulu was the surprise. Kathy, c’mon! 😂 It’s iconic! This was THE wedding song of the 1970’s. A little back story on Tori. This past April she was one of eight singing acts invited to the Carpenters 55th Anniversary. She brought the house down and was the youngest invitee at 20. She is a Carpenters super-fan, besides THAT voice. Oh speaking of that, she has range. I’ll leave a suggestion to honor your request for more. Her most recent release and collaboration is a duet with Dan Wesley, from the UK. Their second song together. It’s a cover of “Suddenly” from the 1980 movie Xanadu. Originally sung by Olivia Newton-John and Cliff Richard. This will show Tori’s range. Love you all and be well! ❤❤❤ Joe ruclips.net/video/XrKi9pbpDAI/видео.htmlsi=HNv-xil9znqdazHS .
Older ladies? Let the kid express herself. Geeze. Lulu likes Monk? Great show! What other frame of reference does someone so young have? I've got your back Lulu! Her life experiences are just beginning. Yeah, bossy boomer here. I loved Karen and her singing back in the 70's. 3 octave Contralto and soo unique. That little tiny frame she had and such a deep resonating voice. Tori seems 'bout 95% or so similar to Karen. And Jim MIDI doctor did a superb job mixing, backing and producing the finished product. The most surprising thing about this video? That a 20 year old in 2024 enjoys singing 50 year old music! Then knocked it outta da park. Peace. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
You’ve stated a simple fact. As no two voices are identical. No two singing examples from the SAME person are identical. So no one will ever be like Karen and no one will ever be like Tori. But like voices are fingerprints, the further back you go, resemblances can be seen. Tori is in that class. Her voice is in the realm and can cover certain songs of that era well. Identical, never.
Kathy, you've never heard this song? How? What kind of music did your mom listen to when you were a teen? You were not paying attention, tsk tsk. (●'◡'●) Peace.
As excellent as this cover is……i wonder if they could re create it with 70’s equipment. There have been a few very close imitations over the years ,one a japanese lady that richard gave a lot of credit. Only thing for me is that NONE of them hit me in the feels and make the hairs on my arms raise like Karen…..every word she sang felt personal.
That girl has a talent that comes along once a generation, if we are lucky.
Tori is the incarnation of Karen! Great reaction ladies! Donna, I could tell you feel the same.
I love how they're staying true to Richard's musical arrangement. It's a given that Tori is going to sing beautifully, but kudos to everyone else for knocking that arrangement out of the park.

I love seeing the old glass CRT square TV in the corner of the double-wide. Keep up the good reviews 👍. 🙏
Karen Carpenter also played drums too.

"We've Only Just Begun" by the Carpenters was the most popular wedding (first dance) song of all time last I knew. It seems pretty iconic to me.
It's a shame you didn't listen to the Carpenter version first. Would love to have seen that reaction.
Can we please have some more DIO reaction. The last in line . live in Philadelphia
Karen lives!

Whenever a song gets covered there will always be comparisons but Karen Carpenter will never be equalled period.
