It's so scary sometimes sending my kids to school not knowing who they are being influenced by. My prayer every day is that they can remember what we teach them at home and that they keep in mind to ignore negative thoughts and actions. I know your family is full of nothing but positivity. My prayer is that their light shines so bright that they are able to spread that light to other children.

Huh? That is not at all what was said in this video at all. I would hesitate to imply that this is what happened in this vlog. They dealt with the bullying issue back when it happened. I didn't get the impression that what happened today was even a matter of them being bullied. Bullying was not even mentioned until Joel spoke about there not being any need for it or retaliation for telling someone to stop being inappropriate. IMO, this was a matter of either Olivia or Cody hearing/seeing something beyond their years and inappropriate.

It's so hard when we can't be there 24/7 with our children to be able to shelter and protect them from all of the bad and ugly in the world. All we can do is teach and give them the tools that they need to become good, honest, loving, kind and caring people. How to make good and responsible choices when we're not there and to always follow their heart and not follow others and to always do what's right. You're a great mama and you and Joel are raising wonderful and thoughtful children.

I`ve *never* commented on videos on youtube so far, but now I really want to point out what an extraordinary, loving and perfect reaction this was from you, Bonnie! I was bullied at school for 6 years (at an age from 7-13) and it destroyed me mentally so that i was diagnosed for severe chronical depression at an age of 25. I am 28 now and just coming out of a severe episode of depression I can say it's torture and most children which are targets don't dare to tell anyone, not even their parents. I wasn't able to and this is one of many reasons why I was a target for so many years. It fills my heart with a profound warmth to see you reacting so emotional, please don't you ever stop to react to a little Olivia, Cody, Boston or Lincoln coming home with tears in their eyes telling they've been bullied at school. Even if you might have the impression of overreacting, it saves the future and many scars of your child...
thanks for being such amazing parents

As the parent of two grown children, I am so proud to say that what you teach them in the home is what they will grow and blossom into as adults. They may struggle at times, but the direction and redirection (especially in middle and high school years when you sometime think they have turned into aliens from another planet, lol) you provide will shape them into amazing adults that you will one day say to yourself " I never in my wildest dreams, imagined my kids would have turned out to be such incredible, loving, empathetic and human beings".

I think the most important part of the experience with your kids at school is to realize that they knew where to go and who to talk to. Some kids don't have a safe place to go, or don't know that they can go to some adults. Take comfort in that knowledge that your kids know and feel comfortable to talk about things that are happening at school. Keep fostering that as they grow so they continue to do that. There is so much worse that could come, but it will be okay as long as they keep comfortable talking with you guys.

So sorry to hear that happened to your kiddos. I hope you encourage them to ignore the bully, but don't ignore the bullying. It's usually okay to ignore the bully because giving them a reaction will probably make the bullying worse, but ignoring the mistreatment as well makes it seems like it's okay. I know it's scary but the fact that they had the courage to tell you what happened shows that you're doing something right & they trust you. Keep your head up momma.

Learning how to defend yourself definitely starts in the home. Children need to know that it’s ok. Allowing children to stand up for themselves against you as a parent is a good start. Children need to know they have a voice and their feelings/opinions matter. My daughter is amazing at it. She will say in a stern voice to anyone that crosses her to “STOP IT!”. I’m quite impressed by her skills. I’m still learning as an adult how to defend myself/speak my mind. It shouldn’t be so hard.

The part I loved the most about you and Joel talking about the school situation is that you never once made out that the other child was bad. So often all the blame is placed on the 'bad' child when just a Joel pointed out that child has clearly heard things in their own home which they shouldn't have , and that is so so sad. It's awful that Olivia /Cody even had to hear those things but all your kiddos will be strong ,resilient and kind because of the way you raise them ❤️

Oh Bonnie I know what you mean! We try to protect our children and teach them right and then they learn these things at school and it doesn't seem fair. Ive sat and thought about this as my kids are now in high school and even contemplated on taking them out of public school. On the other hand I also want them to be able to defend theirself because as we adults know unfortunately its everywhere in the world. Just keep doing what you're doing Bonnie. Kids are alot more resilient than we think and in the end you're good raising will trump and influence.

Interesting how your conversation about life at school could have easily been a discussion on how to survive in prison!!! We are seriously considering home-schooling for this very reason. The stories that come home have me in tears some days!! Big hugs x

dang it Bonnie, you got me crying before breakfast lol. i feel like our hearts for our kids are very similar. We pretty much cry over the same things lol. its hard when your kids are exposed to stuff at such a young age. Thats when the hard lessons are learned and we can help our kids come out strong.

The world has gotten so bad that children can't be children anymore without something bad that gets said or done. It's sad. Love your sweet family. Praying for guidance for your sweet babies for these situations. ❤️

I agree with Bonnie: there's a difference between retaliation, provoking a fight and defending yourself. There's nothing wrong with defending yourself! It shows respect for yourself, not just other people, and it also shows other people that you're not just going to let others walk all over you. Also, as far as I'm concerned, asking people to stop telling you something that you don't specifically want to hear, or is too mature for you, is not disrespectful or impolite; it's setting boundaries and standing up for yourself. Sure, you can say, "please stop; I do not like it," but that is also not rude. It's communicating to other people what you do and do not like.

You are all very kind. It is sad that other children don’t have stable environments. Honestly I’d much rather be a little naive than be so “street” smart or know about things that aren’t the best just to know them. My parents allowed me to make up my own mind as a child I was never not allowed to watched R movies etc I just naturally knew oh that’s not something I should hear or see I’ll excuse myself. I think it is good to teach children how to recognize when to just walk away.

Its also important to stand up for other people too! Bullying is not cool. No matter who its done too. Sorry you and the kids had to deal with this bonnie, but they will be stronger and make better decisions for it.
