I'm a proud Catholic and I would strongly discourage giving the credit to the Pope for healing the child. Only Jesus can do that and yes, he might use other people for His miracles but the Pope does not have any divine power. Everything should be credited to God. :)

Everything must be attributed to God who worked through those means. Like here in my country, the Philippines, people wipe the statues because they believe it has healing powers. To the extent, it can be considered as idolatry because you give credit to the statue instead of the invisible God that we have. We use the images as a reminder of God's love for us but we should not treat them the same regard as a physical manifestation of God.
