Thank you very much, this video also cleared my doubt about creating images from snapshots. just 1 question, since the file created In the cloud storage is around 500MB don't they charge even lesser than $0.23? like $0.01?
that's is a good instructing Mahesh. Unfortunately, I personally do not understand. How did you open the shell, create bucket and many thinks, seem this too advanced to me.
Mahesh, you will be charged in Google storage for only around 600mb not 10 GB.. Correct me if I am wrong. The export process created an object of around 600 mb
Is boot disk part of persistent disk? You selected the option of not deleting the boot disk on VM deletion. So how do we know if persistent disk has the boot disk data preserved just by looking at the saved disk? I expected the boot disk as a separate entry to appear under disks.
Hi Mahesh.. What is the need to export the image to Cloud storage?? We can keep it as custom image or take snapshot and use it while creating new instance
If you want to use within the project use Snapshot. If you want use across projects in an organization use Custom Image. If you want to share your golden image then use GCS
Thank you very much sir, amazing explanation. I have a quick question, can i publish an image and put it in GCP Marketplace for people to use? Or is that a privilege for the big organizations that are Google Cloud Partners, i heard they have some absurd conditions like a bank account in the US and 1 M$ in revenu ..
My understanding is you need to be a Google Partner to submit any solution in GCP Marketplace. Details are available @ cloud.google.com/marketplace/docs/partners/vm/submitting
Thanks for the video, it's great. I have a question, can I download the generated .tar.gz file and run it in the vmware workstation or VirtualBox program? And how to do it?
Hi, thanks a lot for nice explanation.. I did everything same but once I create instance from image, instance is getting stopped.. what could be the reason ? instead of debian I have used with Redhat Enterprise 7
Hi I tried to export and import a custom image, but I failed to ssh to the new instance launched using new imported image with error "Connection via Cloud Identity-Aware Proxy Failed", I am not sure if we can directly using the imported image to launch an instance or we must configure the bootloader before we can use the imported image to create a functional VM instance? how should we troubleshoot the issue as above or others with instance bootup issues.
It works with the Debian but not for RHEL 7. There is a difference in /etc/fstab : 1. Debian : UUID=cf6505a9-a2dd-4606-a3ef-bd7955104c7f / ext4 defaults 1 1 2. RHEL7 : UUID=a96ada4a-77eb-44af-ae5f-b096533b4764 / xfs defaults 0 0 UUID=AF7A-B671 /boot/efi vfat defaults,uid=0,gid=0,umask=0077,shortname=winnt 0 0 not sure if the issue failed to boot the instance luanching with imported image base rhel7 is related to the content in /etc/fstab? Any suggestion will be appreciated .
Are you referring to Managed Instance Group (MIG)? If MIG is what you refer as link VMs then answer is yes. You can do almost everything in Free Tier with limited quota

Hi Mahesh,
Thanks for this video. Can you please let me know which more cost effective, Snapshot of disks or custom image in cloud storage.
Snapshot is more cost effective because it is stored in compressed form
Superb Explanation sir

Understood. If you are new to GCP please refer to ruclips.net/video/ugRCgSwE5yg/видео.html this playlist

if the exported file .tar.gz is 600MB then you will be charged for 600mb in GCS
shouldn't the storage cost be lower than 0,23usd/month since you only store around 600mb vs 10gb? or am I getting it wrong?
Google Cloud Storage cost in this case will be for 600 MB
Thank you. So very helpful and great explanation.

One more very good video and useful tip for cost saving ..

which of the 3 is faster to initialize the VM?
1) Start-up Script
2) Image
3) Snapshot
Custom Image option 2. The same concept is used in Managed Instance Group

Check the Serial Console log. Click on the VM and you will see Serial Console log

Once the custom image is present in Google Cloud Storage you can download to local file system
