That analogy is how the best auto racers in the world avoid wrecking and retiring from races. They focus on where they need to go to avoid a collision, not where they do not want to go. If they're headed to the wall or something, they don't focus on the wall. They focus on getting back to the track. That's how it is in bowling as well.
