Nug activated it, his compressed dive air inflates it, and the air overcomes his total diving weight and gets him to the surface quickly, so he can take off his mask. A very nice safety device for scuba divers and very intelligent of Nug to apply it's use, in this situation. Very similar in operation, to how Nug and Adam, use big orange inflatable bags to float vehicles, off of the bottom.

I grew up in the area and always heard people say to never swim in the river because of the current, that it flows a lot faster underneath than it looks like it does on the surface, especially after it rains. Very glad to see you are safe! Lots of respect for what you all do, I hope you stay safe out there.
