I’m not sure it takes much talent to hire someone else to design and decorate one’s home with extravagant and expensive things Certainly it can be beautiful but how much more beautiful is a home that is decorated out of love. And how much more precious are the items chosen because they have some sort of meaning. Thanks for sharing the memories. I am 72 and can relate to the cost of things back then.. My son can't believe when I told him I brought home $169.00 every other week!!!!! And was a single Mom , with a babysitting bill. All I can say is... Thank God for Grandpas!!!! But oh, how much we enjoyed the tiniest of luxuries... A christmas bauble or ornament.. a hot dog and fries at the Woolworth counter on some random Saturday. How far we have come!!!! So now, I too ,have a tree in every room and love to decorate. Your porch looks fantastic! I think two poinsettias in the pots near the other door would give the entire area a cohesive look. Maybe a green wreath base on top of the pot,with a poinsettia in the center of each pot. The deer pillow picks up the teal of the bench very nicely. Maybe you could find something similar for the teal chairs around the firepit.. with one or two throws for the cozy factor... just for the tour.
What fun memories! I loved Woolworth’s! I was thinking of wreaths for the rim of the planters and I’m going to check out the large bells and ornaments at Hobby Lobby to see if I’d like them. Thanks for the ideas🎄🎄🎄🥰
Debbie,your warm personality is what comes through in lovely home. Thanks for reminiscing about the past,it brought a chuckle. Back in the day we were happy to have jobs to pay for our 12 dollar a week grocery allowance. Grateful for what we had more than what we didn't. Today we are more grateful for each other, but I still love my Christmas collection. Thanks for all that you share. May you and your family have many blessings this season.

Your double front door is beautiful, therefore it really needs to make a big impact. Two pretty wreaths even from Walmart would be beautiful with a few red berries and a homemade bow from wired ribbon. I bought wreaths from Walmart last 2 years and the greenery looks so real that everyone comments on how do I keep them alive. I think they were under $20. each.
I have been a interior designer for 40 years and I have always used decorations from the dollar stores, Goodwill, yard sales and thrift stores yet everyone has always told me my home could be in a magazine. It is not what you have but how you display it or use it in a different way that can make all the difference. You could have $5,000 worth of Christmas decorations but if they are not presented in the right fashion they just will not make an empact.

😂😂😂 that's what we get going rural! There was a time I would have played in those all day long. I was sorry to see them go, my grandboys would have loved it, but my husband did a final grass cut then blew them into the street and raked them into the woods! Lots of work!

We use cat litter-paper pellets to hold outdoor Xmas trees which is more consistent than dirt.
Actually the urns which is part of the tree base I place that inside a much larger barrel style vase. The barrel style vase gives the tree a fuller complete look and it keeps the tree from moving.

Hi Debbie! Scary about the dog. Thank goodness you were able to catch it. I must say that if I had a yard like yours I’d probably run around (down hill at least ) and get lost in that beautiful scenery as well. 😊 Not fun for you though. Especially when you’re trying to get things done. When I watched my son and his fiancées hamster they told me to limit its playtime to 15 minutes per day. I didn’t even take it out of its cage for fear that it would fall, runaway or get lost. 😂 Aww.. I love that story of when you were first married. 💕 Those are the best times. We just don’t know it while we’re going through it. So fun that you made tour own things. I used to string popcorn and make those advent wreaths, and those paper chains. My mom would make things that you’d see in colonial Williamsburg. She’s made all of her garland from things in her yard. Right up until the day she sold her house her neighbors were still clipping holly and greenery to put in to vases or use for their decor. Your home is gorgeous and will be lovely for the tour. You make everything look exceptional. As you know, that’s the beauty of being a great designer, you can mix and match less expensive items with more costly items. My sister took me to a Goodwill and I bought some Fitz and Floyd. I’m usually the one donating to them. Those red bows are perfect for your door: I love the garland. Those trees look great in those urns. I love the grouping of the poinsettias. My father in law always bought my mother in law a huge poinsettia every year. It might as well have been her tree it was so huge. That Merry Christmas sign is precious. I’m curled up right now with a throw that looks like the throw on your bench. I bought it years ago at Marshall’s. It’s a Ralph Lauren and it is super soft. ❤️

Thank you Debbie. That’s wonderful! I absolutely love Fitz and Floyd. My mom used to take me and my sister to a place called New Egypt sale. It’s closed now. But, there were about 50 shops with wall to wall antiques. Plus yard sale items. My mom would buy us each a hot chocolate and a delicious hot buttered roll. I don’t know what they offered, but that’s what she always bought me and my sister every time we went. 🙃 My husband thinks that’s hilarious that she bought us one roll, since his family buys dozens of rolls for Sunday dinners. But they kept us full and warm. ❤️

sounds lovely! They didn't have anything like that at our Costco but we have a reindeer and sleigh and another reindeer going into the front yard!
