Just to be 100% Clear - When Neta says... "They are religious" Let me just assume she is not ignoring the blood of the Modern Orthodox that has been spilled in outsized numbers in Gaza. Religious is not Haredi and it pisses me off when this distinction is not made!

We always fight, until we are attacked, then we love each other. We should be like a people we are when we are attacked, all the time.

    Great guest, Modi.
Since you all were trying and struggling to explain the origin of "Palestine" (Neta got it the closest), here is some help.
Like Neta says, the term was used by the Romans at the time of the second Temple as an insult to the native Jews in what was called at that time Yehudah, the Kingdom with Jerusalem (the city that was established by King David and Solomon long before as their Capital City of the united kingdom of all the Jewish people) and the Temple Mount as its Capital city.
The northern kingdom of Israel, near what was known as the Sea of the Galilee (today called the Kinneret Sea) and the territory north all the way into what is today the modern state of Lebanon, had divided with the Jews in the Kingdom of Yehudah and later been captured and exiled hundreds of years earlier by the King of Assyria (modern day Syria and Iraq), Sennacherib.
The Romans, as an insult to the the Jews of Yehudah, referred to them by the same term that Egyptians had called the assortment of peoples who had occupied the territories ruled by Egypt centuries earlier at various times from as far back as Abraham, Jacob, Joseph and Moses. Those militarily administrated territories ruled by Egypt included what is called today the Sinai, Gaza and even parts of the Mediterranean Sea coast extending up to the city of Tyre in Lebanon. The Egyptians had referred to this group of people as "Palestunim" from the term meaning Forgers and Swindlers. (See BeMidbar Rabbah, chapter 8, and also the similar term "Palestir" used in tractate Avodah Zarah 11b.)
These assorted peoples occupied from Phoenicia (modern Lebanon), Arabia and the coast of Canaan all the way to the coast of Sinai. They were the remnant of the Minoan civilization, a rich and powerful, sea-faring Kingdom of the Mediterranean that had been destroyed when the Island of Thrace (also called Santorini and Akrotiri) in the Aegean Sea was destroyed in a cataclysmic volcanic eruption. The remnant of the Minoan civilization became the Phoenician peoples (from the term Panas, which means "oil lamp" or "torch", meaning they traded in high grade olive oil for lamps) that occupied the remaining island of Kaftor (modern day Cyprus), the north African Kingdom of Carthage and Phoenicia in modern Lebanon. There are even remnants of them that have been reported in South America. They were powerful soldiers and known for incredible skill with slings and boleros.
The Egyptians (of Mitzrayim) despised them (the Minoans, whom they referred to as Palestunim) because they were dishonest in their business dealings and so the Egyptians denied them citizenship in their Kingdom. With the fall of the Minoan civilization on Crete, the refugees, who had outposts on the coast of Canaan, including Sinai and Gaza, attempted to make claim to the land, like they did in Lebanon and also on the coast of North Africa, west of Mitzrayim. This land (what is the modern day state of Israel) had originally been apportioned to the descendants of Shem, the son of Noah. The hereditary head of those descendants of Shem was Avraham. When the refugees of the Minoans attempted to make a claim to the land of Canaan, that is when G-d told Avram (Avraham) to leave his home in Haran and Ur in modern day Iraq, Turkey and Syria and go to reassert the claim of your ancestors in Canaan. (Bereshit, chapter 12)
