Well you don't need to go to Philippines for that. Just go to mid-southern States. I exactly know what you were saying as I stayed/vacationed in California albeit just a month but my limited exposure jibes with what you said. Many friendly and nice Americans here in mid-south who always greet "How do you do" or, in their local verse "howdy". :)

Yeah... Totally agree with everything you said most especially to leftover food 😂.
When we have leftover food, we usually take it home for the people at home who weren't with us. It's more of like thinking of them even we are eating outside without them.
Moreover, if we have leftover bones of chicken, pork or beef when we eat in restaurants, we also take it home for the dogs 😂 or if we ate in a seafood restaurant, we still bring home leftover of our cats at home 😂😃

There's a saying that goes, "If you can survive driving the streets of Metro Manila, you can drive anywhere in the world." FILIPINOS are some of the best drivers and pilots in the world. Imagine jeepney drvers, getting payments, counting money for change and looking for passengers all at the same time.

In the Philippines, we have a laid-back stress-free life. Driving in all sorts of vehicles is an organized chaos but we have less accidents. We care so much for our family and love nature. Sharing food and pure delight in making visitors feel at home is a norm in a family. We are a happy but a resilient people smiling even in adversity. Patient and hopeful of a better future for everyone.

I appreciate your comment. Let me help you understand. First, Filipino time is one influence of the Spanish colonisation for 400 years and our hot & humid tropical climate. When you go to the province you'll experience siesta/afternoon nap which is the same in Mexico and in Spain. Everything stops after lunch. Second, touching and sharing food with friends is vital because Filipino culture is collective than individualistic. Children are taught to get along, take care of younger siblings and respect their elders. We take care of our seniors. It is not acceptable behaviour to put your parents in homes for the aged. Thus, we have multi-generational households. It helps us recover fast in times of disaster, natural calamities, deaths and war. It's a security blanket. Third, our country is still in the process of development. Thus, public transport is not reliable and readily available particularly in the province. If you drive, it is better to rent a car and use Waze or Google maps in your travels.
Note: Majority of Filipinos have Spanish beliefs, American educated, tri-lingual, reads Japanese anime, fans of Korean stars, and an international palate.

Yes there are ongoing subway constructions, also MRT 7 ongoing to Fairview. PNR ongoing construction to Bulacan. Also they can start now to reconstruct trains to Bicol. There’s also ongoing construction of modern international airport in Bulacan. There’s also ongoing construction of LRT to Cavite which will pass through NAIA.
LRT and MRT will soon be interconnected.
Philippines is composed of 7,000 plus islands that is why there’s so many infrastructures to be done.

We have sort of railway system. You can take a train from Manila all the way to Legaspi. When it comes to tunnels underwater that is nearly impossible since Philippines takes care of the marine lifes corals and everything. Even building a bridge from one island to another they need to take into consideration the marine life.

    1) It's the culture of the road. 2) Filipino time has never really changed. But I think for business, lately, you have to be punctual - or at least 10 minutes late. 3) Food - sharing is always going to be stuck in Filipino practice. 4) Being touchy - touchy comes quite natural. 5) You did notice that there are extreme differences between just two areas so next to each other. That's just it. But there are some developments in the planning. Like interisland bridges, the ongoing subway construction, more roads & bridges, or more green cities (like the New Clark City, Pampanga - a so much bigger and greener BGC) or e - jeepneys are now starting to ply Philippine streets. Bottom line: Infrastructure still is in a developing stage. This is where the country lags behind in ASEAN. And herein lies the biggest challenge.

Roads connecting to different provinces are really what we lack. This is the reason why development of rural areas are slow and why the population is concentrated in the metro cities due to job opportunities.
You discussed your insights of our culture well. 😊
The pace of life here is slow. It could be because of our climate. Being fast paced in a hot and humid country is rather uncomfortable and so we take our time. And yeah... you'll learn patience, which I think is a good virtue. It will lessen your stress level and would be good for your health.
Be safe, healthy and happy! 😄
    God bless! 😇

About the development, to be fair, the Philippines is a very young country. We’ve only been fully independent in 1946… so that’s 76 years. Our political system is not yet mature, which really slows down progress. The UK has been much more ahead for centuries now, had been at the forefront during the industrial revolution, and have gained a lot from their colonies. The Philippines has a lot of catching up to do 😊

You must know your bus route coz there are Pinoys who don't know that Batangas City (Capital of Batangas)is different from Batangas (the province) and might point you to other route like Lemery or Nasugbu etc. This already happened while we were on a trip to Nasugbu, some guys boarded Nasugbu route coz it is what pointed to them when they said they are going to Batangas City and it was too late when they found out that they should've boarded Batangas City route.😅

This has not been experienced before becasue there was no internet back then where people's notion of foreign countries were limited to what the read and hear on the news, which sadly mostly newsworth (AKA bad). Now with a few click on keyboard we can see any country for what it is other than the ones we were formed to believe from the news.

About having a local guide, you can avoid major pitfalls if you're traveling there for the first time. You can also avoid scammers and the "foreigner tax" or price increase given by some price gougers.

This is my 2nd time with u guys. Quite interesting but factual observations. There are positives & negatives in this country. But the best u can have in this country is the love of its people. That's why u will notice so many foreign women now opting for Filipinos like Americans, Germans, Brazilians even those from as far as Eastern Europe. Notice those popular vlogs now existing on RUclips. I pray that your family will soon find your rightful niche in our humble society. Best Regards to your beautiful family.

Nice list, actually, and all are valid.
We had a fully working train in Luzon than ran for more than 1,000km north and south of the City of Manila (up to Dagupan City, Pangasinan (abt. 2.5hrs north from San fernando, Pampanga) down to Naga City in the southern Luzon province of Bicol, approx ±9hrs' travlel) just before WWII; we had trains from the 1900s by the Americans before that, but not as extensive. The southern line was referred to as _Bicol Express_ which nowadays people know as a dish-believe it or not-made from taro leaves and coconut and and chilies, ingredients one finds in Bicol cuisine. Anyhow, the iteration of state-run railways is under the Philippine National Railways (PNR) which is still known as.
Despite rehabilitation from devastation from the War, typhoons and other natural disasters (earthqquakes, primarily) are attributed to the slow progress and adaptation of the use of trains; some isolated areas where tracks ran were also targeted by piracy or fell victim to insurgents particularly in the south line for much of the 60s-70s. It's quite a long story but you could read up on the history of the PNR =D
It takes unbelievable sums of money to build undersea channels between major islands, with the San Juanico Bridge in Leyte Province built during the Martial Law years being the first such undertaking.
There's also that different administrations have different priorities, too, not to mention the perilous open waters and high currents even in smaller channels between islands.
The Ro-ro ferry system is what we have for now but a passenger on many ferry trips, I have to say the system that runs it needs a lot of improvement.
There's hope for such inter-island bridges, though, esp. since the gov't adapted partnerships with the private sector. Well, these are just some basic info on transportation ü

The reason why Filipinos walk too slow is because of our hot weather. Imagine walking fast like people in the west is that we perspire so easily and people in the west are so stressed compared to Filipinos. So much freedom here compared to other countries. People can do anything they want freely as long as you follow the law.

Hit up a notch in development is good but that would also translate to cost-it wouldn't be as cheap anymore

There’s an unwritten rule when driving in the Philippines you give and take. Europeans are more affectionate on their dogs and cats but very reserved to each other. I lived in Europe for three years. Europe and the US are over legislated, it’s suffocating sometimes. The only free is your freedom of speech other than all your moves are legislated.

I tried to vlog here in US but I always get people (mostly whties) telling me they don't want to be in the background (i.e., pixelate them). And don't even try flying drones, I get approaced a lot and they say it's against the law. So I just stopped. LOL. One time it got scary because the guy who approaced me was mad. So here in mid-south, very nice people but they / apparently "we" love our privacy. :D
