    the design is a throw back to the old Disney Treasures line of DVD releases that all had this look.

    I actually kinda like the look of the steelbooks. It reminds me of the Walt Disney Treasures Tins they used to release on DVD.

    You make good comprehensive videos short of showing how a disc looks visually and or grading a release. I find the info invaluable when searching for a specific release.

    I know they were going for the "Disney Treasure" look, a DVD product line back in the day where plastic DVD cases came in silver tins, I just think they're a little, dull. I mean at least the Slip versions at Walmart have pins with them, not even Disney Movie Club has that, and those are just reissues of the films latest blurays with new slipcovers. They're not even going to do the complete "Disney Cannon" collection, the films that were made by Disney Animation proper. Giving the US something like the UK got with the ORing set with all Disney Animated Films having matching Slip Covers still to this day. They are mostly going to be doing Pixar films and only 1 MCU film is being released, on the Steelbook side, with Paramount's Iron Man. Odd one to choose with the Paramount logo still appearing on the 4k release, with Star Wars getting these 3. The release they put out has no other Star Wars or Marvel films on the list. You'd think since it's celebrating Disney, it would have included all the films Walt Worked on, they are leaving out Dumbo and Sleepy Hollow, and if they are also not including any Disney made Marvel films, Iron Man 3 onward, or the Disney made Star Wars films. Just Fox and Paramount.

    • @Ataris8327
      @Ataris8327 Год назад +3

      It's probably because most of the classic films don't have 4K releases yet. They're doing Disney 100 Exclusive slipcovers for the classic films at Wal-Mart.

      You can find that out of the UK if that helps, though it won't exactly match the design of the U.S. ones, since they didn't do the "Ultimate Collector's Edition" or "Mult-screen Edition" branding.

    Those package designs are all wrong! I was introduced to the Original Trilogy with the 1995 "faces" VHS tapes, so I expect to see Vader on "A New Hope" and Yoda on "Return of the Jedi". Also, the Empire's logo should be on the back of "The Empire Strikes Back" and the Jedi logo should be on the back of "Return of the Jedi".

    It’s nice to see these exist, but my one issue is the placement of the front pictures and the back logos. ESB should have the Vader image and the Imperial logo, and ROTJ should’ve had the Yoda image and the Jedi logo. Also, the spines really should’ve placed the logos/titles in a better way. Did the other steelbooks oragnized the titles the same way as these steelbooks?

    • @ChronoRadio
      @ChronoRadio  Год назад +2

      Agreed on the TESB/ROTJ swap. The titles on other Star Wars SteelBooks in the past have been written along the spine legibly. (Unless, of course, the SteelBook was from a region that uses images instead of text on spines like many from Japan.)

  • @AlSumait
    @AlSumait 29 дней назад

    One thing I noticed about these Disney 100 releases, is that some of these 4K steelbooks outside the Star Wars ones have the UltraHD logo on the spines, but the rest of them have the Disney Blu-Ray logo on them. Although, all of them are in the 4K format, but some have different format logos on the spines. Is there any reason or explanation for that?

      @Nathan Butler I just spent 6 hours getting the DVD player up to operating temperature and I saw 1 full play through of the 1st movie.
      It was 95% perfect.
      I've never seen a 95% perfect version of star wars.
      Now I have!
      4 hours to get the 4K DVD player up to operating temperature.
      The image on screen was color perfect after 4 hours of warm up.
      😢has images in the first 3 hours after turning on the machine, is NOT worth watching.
      Once your electrical components have warmed up, the image on screen is WAY BETTER than the original experience.

    Great video Nathan. Glad the US got new physical Star Wars releases (even if they aren't necessarily trending that much). And it was appropriately released during Return of the Jedi's 40th anniversary limited theatrical run. Are you gonna see (or have you already seen) ROTJ in theaters for this special release? I just saw it last night (May 2).

      Yup, though, to be fair, they were mostly out of it anyway. I do have to wonder where, if anywhere, in the U.S. will handle SteelBooks for Star Wars releases going forward. The Mandalorian was just a broad SteelBook release, which we hadn't seen since the OT/PT in 2015. One has to wonder if that's the new normal for SteelBooks, if they will switch to a new exclusive retailer, or some other release plan.

      For reasons I've addressed repeatedly in various Q&As and whatnot on this channel, I'm skeptical that we'll see it happen, but the best chance would be either in 2027 for the 50th anniversary of ANH or if physical media is still a viable market if/when LFL leadership no longer includes anyone who ever had a personal loyalty or mentor/mentee relationship with Lucas.

    • @Gma7788
      @Gma7788 Год назад

      You've been told that's never going to happen.
      The original film is now worth millions of dollars.
      You can't even afford a copy of the film.
      You have the fundamental problem of, what did you see back in 1977?
      It was probably an over saturated version of star wars.
      Lots of people saw a very scratched version of star wars.
      There's only 1 TV that does a realistic version of this DVD product.
      Most people never bought that 1 Panasonic TV.
      Don't forget, your DVD player needs to warm up for 4 hours before you sit down to watch the movie.

  • @Thecatdrums3
    @Thecatdrums3 Год назад

    So with non taking over and the “big push gif physical media” he talks about is probably why they did this. Disney last cared about physical discs when they had dvds which this design is based off of.
    Last time I bought a star wars edition was the dvd for a new Hope that had the “original version”. I really did like the force awakens but want an imax edition for me to buy it.
    I hate how Disney has so many films use imax but never sells us that imax version. Easily the biggest revenue stream they haven’t even touched on besides the few movies that stream the matted imax version online.
    Those zavvi steelbook are still the best.

    • @Gma7788
      @Gma7788 Год назад

      Cause you don't own an imax player at home.
      You're sold a 1:1 ratio product.
      But that's only available from a 55 inch TV.
      The standard product of today.
      If you buy a bigger TV your brain won't be fooled into believing you're there at the scene of the action.
      Your brain says this bigger image is larger than life.
      Observing the 55inch screen from 6ft away DOES FOOL YOUR MIND INTO THINKING you're actually there, standing right next to the actors on screen.
      But you don't know this basic information Cause you're just a gossip.

    • @ChronoRadio

      It takes 4 hours for the 4K dvd player to get warm enough to play the image as the maker intended.
      Salesmen don't tell you about this little warm up problem with 4K dvd players.
      Within the first 3 hours of turning on a dvd player, the displayed image isn't worth watching.
      It should be obvious to you after the dvd player has reached operating temperature.
