  • This is my first halloween prop I made 6 years ago. It is 6 feet by 6 feet with a 2 foot overhang over the doorway. I built it with ordinary 2 X 4 studs and OSB for the walls, and 2 X 4 studs and 1 inch foam board for the roof sections. The door is just old 1 X 6 I had laying around the yard. It stores into my shed after halloween.

    Great job on your Mausoleum..Love everything you do for your haunt. I feel a bit jealous because I can not make one..I have no where to store it and my husband will not help me take on a project that big. Glad to see your wife enjoys helping you. Looking forward to seeing your 2015 haunt!

      Tina Strangway Thanks Tina! Storage is my worst problem with my props too. As for building it, you could totally do it, it's not that complicated. My wife TOLERATES it, I'm not sure to say if she enjoys it! lol

      Yeah, it's a lot of work, but having a mausoleum in your graveyard is simply awesome! Thanks for watching!

      +Deb Neufell (Neuf) Thanks Neuf! I would strongly suggest to build the roof out of styrofoam just because of the weight issue. Good luck and post a video when you're done!

      +Hickabod Crane I was actually thinking about making the entire thing out of a wood frame and walled with foam because it's just me who's putting it together and all wood would be way too heavy. I'll definitely post a video when I'm done! Thanks for the advice, it's really helpful!

    Is it possible to get I fo and pics on how you attached roof? I like how it overlaps front gable and covers seam. Also the soffit you put up.

    I really like the proportions of your mausoleum. Do you know what the L,W, H are?

      Bottom side portion of the mausoleum are 6' high X 6' long. Front bottom (with the door) same height X 82" wide. I have a 2' overhang for the pillars in the front

    Looks awesome! You said it was one of your first props!? I can tell you're like me when it comes to noticing the smallest things (rings on the sonotube) wife always has to remind me, "nobody will even notice that!"

    I LOVE this mausoleum! I also like that it has a functional door. The roof fits perfectly. How tall are the pillars, and are they made of two sonotubes attached end to end?

    • @hickabodcrane
      @hickabodcrane  10 лет назад

      Thanks for the comments! The pillars are 6 feet tall, and it was a 12 foot sonotube and I just cut in half and glued some styrofoam blocks on the top and bottom.

      Where do you purchase a 12 foot sonotube??

    • @hickabodcrane
      @hickabodcrane  10 лет назад

      barbjoz63 Maybe we call it something different here, lol. It's used for pouring concrete footing for posts (i.e. for fence posts) so I bought mine at the local building supply store, so Home Depot should have it there too. Hope that helps!

    Are the doors made of foam as well? I am building a mausoleum, unsure if I will have doors on or not, curious of the complexity for it.

      The doors I made with scrap 1 X 6 fir (any wood I had around the yard). It's a simple design, I laid down 3 pieces of wood side by side for the door (approx 5 feet), and nailed on 2 smaller pieces of wood across to attach them (approx 2 feet). I left some spaces between the boards to make it look rundown and it provides a "peephole" so I could see people coming. After that, just attach some hinges so the doors can open and close.
