Marilyn was very smart, an intellectual. But they would only cast her based on her looks. She tried to break away from that image in her 30s and she would've shown her true range, had she lived.
Yeah she definately gets my respect! Regardless of her fame she was never snobbish, she was down-to-earth and talked to everybody! Rest-In-Paradise., Ms.Marilyn!!! 💐🙇♀️🙏
@@norijean3279 If you watch the movie Bus Stop or even the movie Don't Bother to Knock which is older, you see her range as an actress. Bus Stop is the best showcase for her talent ...some of it's funny, she sings in a comedic way and there are dramatic moments also. She's also in a movie called Clash by Night with Barbara Stanwyck, it shows her acting ability in a different light as well.
This is so charming. Monroe's first solo song is adorable and made me think of Disney's cartoon Cinderella personified - the movements, the voice everything - it's almost like the cartoonists watched this performance and drew Cinderella
I was at work today ( health care worker ) and one of my lovely old ladys was watching this ( she's 98 ) . I caught a little and had to try and find out the film . And here it is ! Wonderful 💕
I think that Marilyn really played herself in this movie, even though she was dynamite beautiful, I think inside she was just a simple girl that wanted to be loved.
*Just a little info. about this great flick.* *Marilyn was 22, her mother was 31, Randy was 30 and Randy's mom was 60!* *What a fabulous film. Thank you so much. Marilyn was absolutely beautiful and* *a great actress and voice!* 🤗
If this was truly a B-movie it certainly doesn't feel like one. The performances are top-notch, camera work is pretty stellar, and of course Marilyn steals the show. Her voice and presence could turn anyone's bad day around. And I can't get "anyone can see I love you" out of my head now. Long live this icon.
It was a B, believe me. Most of the acting never would have garnered any acting nominations. But perhaps the clue is in the length. By the late 1940s, any film that was an A or even an A-minus wouldn't have had a running time under an hour. I can't remember exactly which book, but it was either Frank Capra's autobiography, "Name Above the Title" or Bob Thomas' book on Columbia boss Harry Cohn, "King Cohn," it was brought out that a film with this length (58 minutes) couldn't have been shown in England because British censors wouldn't have allowed it to be shown. Hollywood studios often looked to the foreign market to turn a flop into a hit. But I don't blame SpEnCeR PuGh for writing it doesn't feel like a B. Marilyn did a good job of acting and Rand Brooks' mother was a hoot. The best comment should have been directed at the sets. Columbia was well-known in the industry for its set decoration department. The studio believed in good economy and often recycled sets such as mother's interiors which gave even their B movies a great look. So, B, yes. Maybe even a C+. It probably played in the bottom half of many double-bills, but it was moderately entertaining and I wouldnt be surprised if it made money.
Compared with B movies today this should have been a major studio release. I can't help but see how low Hollywood has fallen, the actors of both genders they cast now are no longer beautiful and many cannot act and have just gotten to where they are based upon who in the industry they know. Hollywood has lost it's glamour and it's ability to tell amazing stories. Everything is reboots/remakes and just garbage with ugly people that cannot act. It's more about pushing a political agenda than it is about telling a good story.
I agree with William. MM was far better than the rest of the cast, and the chorus dancing was pretty weak in my opinion. It suddenly occured to me that I'm used to seeing Marilyn with a mole on her face - I'm now thinking that it wasn't real, as there's no sign of it here. Oh, and the visual quality is wonderful - I'm guessing digital processes in work, and if that's true v- there's doubtless a lot more films that need the treatment!!
This is a movie of the love of two mother's. Forget the actors, the quality of the movie as a whole and honor the love of the two mothers and the great children they raised. Thank you, RUclips I needed that truth and sentiment. We need more current movies that show that commitment and sacrifice.
Everything I've read confirms that Marilyn did her own vocals in this film. And what a little gem this film is. And Marilyn's stage presence was amazing. Hard to believe she was only 22 years old.
You wont think that after watching Blonde or better still reading the book. You might be more impressed with her vability to play Marilyn Monroe, but Norma Jeane was not happy.
I could only dream to look half as good as the flawless skin of Marilyn's mother when I'm that age. I would've never thought she was a day over 28! What a marvelous film. My grandmother really got me into movies from this era. Not a lot of people in my generation have appreciation or understanding for them. I'm glad I was granted that gift. Rest in Peace, my Mamaw.
I'm young too! I've decided to delve into this world because of Stranger Things, tbh 😅 I know that show deals with the 80s but it got me listening to some old classics and suddenly I find myself into this labyrinth 😅 I'm utterly mesmerized with the films and especially Monroe!
To be fair Marilyn was only about 23 at the time of this film and Adele Jergens who played her mother was about 32. So that’s probably why she looks so close to 28 😅 They just put Adele in the brunette wig with gray hairs to try and age her look for the film but clearly that didn’t work too well because she still looks so youthful
