I would like to suggest re: the button in the center: to baste a running stitch around the edge of the fabric, pull the end(s) gently to gather around the button, tie with a knot on the underside. you will need to find something round to trace around that is about the size of the circle you would like ... a nail polish bottle bottom or the opening of a bottle for example!
