    With unemployment at an all-time high in Mega City One, being sent to the cubes for any survivable amount of time won't effect your chances of getting a job negatively. Your chances of getting a job there are almost non-existent to begin with.

      GamerZero that led to the "call me kenneth" robot uprising. The absolute dystopian nature and showing greed is depressingly well done in Dredd, millions of people want jobs but corporations still use robots because they don't have to pay robots.

      @@viper1524 Which makes no sense as most corporations would have gone bankrupt since they have a next-to-zero customerbase to get profits from, if that's the case. And then Mega City one would have also collapsed already since it can't tax a populace that doesn't have money.

    Much better than the whole "suspended animation" or "cryo" incarcerations some franchises uses, that's just like "here take a nap and you'll be let out when you wake up", that's not a real punishment, but being put in a room and left to do nothing but think, THAT'S a punishment.

      I mean if someone put me to sleep and I woke up 20 years later, I have still missed both my kids entire childhoods, my partner has moved on, I no longer have my job and my skills are now 20 years out of date, my parents would most likely be dead by this point, my cats are dead, I would likely have no friends. I think people often forget that being locked away from society means it moving on without you.

    I confess I just learned about Dredd from Dredd 3D, when the cubes were mentioned I visualized them as mobile cells like shipping containers on a container ship.
    The perp gets locked inside and the cube gets stacked up so there’s no possibility of escape

      It's basically thinly veiled cannibalism. Because there's zero Farmland left in the mega states and most of the land that isn't part of a mega city is in a radiated Wasteland whenever someone is killed or dies they go to recyc which basically removes all the nutrients out of their bodies to than be sold to other people to eat. Only the super-rich are afforded luxury being buried

    A great video about incarceration under the judge system. A couple of omissions though. There is also the option for judges to send prisoners to Cursed Earth work farms available where the perps can repay society by doing manual labour. Also there is a iso-block offshore from Mega City One that was once a vigilante's private prison called the House of Pain. It was taken over by the judges when they discovered it and is now under the wardenship of Judge Gunthrie.

      There's a short comic strip, where one guy tries to kill himself, since his life was so miserable.
      He get a gun, goes for the small walk to the street and then tries to shoot himself.
      Sadly his gun is broken & doesn't work, starting to curse being such a loser that can't even manage to shoot himself.
      Judge then sees the situation & shoot him, believing that he's some random mad man trying to cause panic in the street.
      Story end in the line of "Judges: Here to protect & serve" or something similar.

    • @viper1524
      @viper1524 6 лет назад +1

      kanishq ruhil Very. In Mega City one there is a place called Reysk, it is a funeral parlour up front but behind the velvet curtain is monstrous conveyor belt that carries thousands of bodies to human deconstruction tools, everything that can be recycled from the human body is recycled, organs, bodily fluids, skin. Imagibe a conveyor belt in hell.
      Honestly the only thing not recycled are eyelashes I think.
      There was an issue once where Resyk became self aware and demanded more bodies, led to 100's being killed before their time but Dredd managed to kill the programme and had to essentially restart the machine the same day, one hour out of service at resyk can lead to a backlog of over 3,000 bodies. It shows how much death there is in MC1.

    • @viper1524
      @viper1524 5 лет назад

      Pretty much agree with your calculations, some storylines throw up clone issues as well (A pop singer sold his sperm at an exuberant price to his fans which led to gangs of identical fast grown clones forming a criminal element within MC1, this was a short story tho) plus they recycle the dead from various attacks on the city and various wars as well (Resyk is always high priority to be up and running after any attack for the obvious reasons of clean up).
      The only thing I think that ever threatened Resyk itself was a character called Otto Sump and all he did was make a food line that wasn't human sourced, it was called Grot Pot and became quite popular until Dredd shut it down (To be honest tho the Judges pulled a fast one by repackaging it as standard justice issue food and reaped the monetary rewards for themselves)

      'if your lucky enough to actually receive a sentence of imprisonment rather than death' & 'For those crimes petty enough to do time' Both lines give that implication. Most crimes in MC1, even premeditated murder, come with a life sentence. The Perp's that get shot are resisting arrest and attempted murder of a street judge is indeed a capitol offence

    So, how does one become a judge?

    • @GraemeBell9864
      @GraemeBell9864 6 лет назад

      Vaguely the system trains recruits from a young age. The final graduation is a mission to The Cursed Earth. I am sure Judges Dredd and Giant oversee a class (source: US reprint???)

    • @viper1524
      @viper1524 6 лет назад

      M3TALH3AD you are taken at 5yrs old, parents put their kids forward and they are trained until 18 with the final test being a patrol under a assessing judge or as mentioned going into the cursed earth on something called a hotdog run. Cadets are clearly marked in two ways 1) They wear a white helmet not black 2) Their badge is a half blank shield, upon passing the test they are made into full shield badges with the justice dept eagle and their name on it.
      It some storyline when Judges have suffered tremendous losses or the city is under brutal attack, cadets (over the age of 16) can be drafted to the front lines.

      @@viper1524 I've also heard that, in emergencies, they've resorted to cloning Judges. Not entirely sure if that's comic canon or just taken from the first JD movie.

    • @viper1524
      @viper1524 5 лет назад

      Not to my knowledge regarding emergency cloning of judges.
      The only success of cloning were Dredd and Rico and given the expense and time it took to get to Dredd and Ricon and with Rico turning bad the Justice Department tried various other methods of law enforcement such as the Mechanismo project and in the time when sanctions were lifted on Mutants they opened recruitment for all (in a diminished capacity in the Mega Cities) but as full Sheriff's in the outlying towns.
      The Judda project put a final nail in the cloning coffin but it did bring up a dilemma for Dredd, a clone was drafted into the MC1 Jidges who had been made by the rogue Judge Judda and he was cloned of Dredd himself.
      If am absolutely honest mate the Justice Dept has a habit of making the odd clone now and then to see if its worth pursuing but most time Dredd finds out about and shuts its down.

      Thanks, yeah I've love just about everything Death's Head. Now I'm going to have to go through my comic boxes to find those issues and read them again. It's been a while.

      Yes, and I liked what they did with minion/death's head 2 even though it didn't have the same edge that the original had. I just want them to bring Death's head comics back. There is so much they can do with the character, and so many questions that haven't been answered.

    This is stupid. Perps are to be taken in to serve their time. Only in extreme cases, or where innocent cits are in danger, will a Judge act as "exicutioner".
    A criminal should be taken in to serve his time.
