Hands down, this is the best song ever about the art of songwriting. It belongs in a textbook. Brilliant! I saw Iris perform last night but unfortunately she didn't have time to include this. Her voice has not lost an ounce of its charm and emotion.
She has such an unusual distinctive voice but it is very effective. Its a very country voice but lends itself beautifully to folk music....love it love it ..... raises me up to the next level

Has there ever been a better concept for collaboration than Transatlantic Sessions? Wouldn't every artist dream of being a part of such a wonderous thing? I think everyone here knew that Iris was creating a special magic, and Iris knew that she was free to do so with these empathetic musicians.

I had the great chance to see Iris not only once, but TWICE in Petaluma, California at the Mystic Theater...afterwards, as MOST of the audience had left, she came done into the audience and talked with me and signed the CD's that I bought...she is so real and humble...love the way she dresses...right off the rack and her "orthopedic" shoes are a hoot...IRIS, I love you...
What a wonderful artist! She was one of my dad's favorites , we just said our last "good-byes" to him earlier this year, so I find myself listening to his favorite music a lot and what a treat it has been for me.
These are the cream of the crop as far as musicians go in this genre love the way they dovetail Iris D...they put a lot into this incredible piece....she in a league of her own...much appreciated here in Ireland...

I told him that maybe only us old folks could understand but the only counsel I could give him is that he already started writing the melody that would be there in his place....my grandsons.
Now I discovered her i last november and is indeed captivated! I feel blessed to have been in concert with her, 2x standing ovation, and very justly so!!!!!;=) I, for one would not trade that moment for anything! Like everyone here knows, she is the Real Deal, and for those of us who know,, well,,, a True Soul she verily is!
I saw her at Merlefest. While she was singing, a mosquito or fly flew into her mouth and interrupted her song. She stopped and excused herself for the interruption and started the tune all over. What a tremendous performer. It might have been this song, but I do not remember.

I consider myself very lucky to have met and watched her perform about a year ago in Richmond, VA. She is a wonderful person with a very sweet voice. A true American treasure. Thank you Iris for playing Mamas Opry for me.
And I've been to many concerts but what was special, in every pause it was completely silent, of respect for her, I've never experienced that before, a indescribable event! And man, does she deserve that respect!!
Country Folk music came over from 'Old Europe' back when it was a great power of influence in the world. Maybe some day 'Old Europe' will find itself and return to greatness, only by God willin', that is.
How can I ever listen to another song again? Someone once told me a story of a friend of his who had gone to Australia and there somewhere in the outback had found a place of ultimate beauty. In fact a place that was so perfect that he just couldn't bear it, so he took his own life right there in that place. Listening to Iris sing this song, gives me an idea of what he must have felt.

I can’t believe I only found her after the tragic death of John Prine. She is a treasure.
Saw her live in Aberdeen 21 years ago. She did this song with just her guitar and there wasn’t a dry eye in the theatre .
