sunday afternoon. at the which stage. i posted up to see mm&w. my friend justin left me half way through to see david byrne. i thought at the time i should of went with him, being a big talking heads fan. mm&w wrapped up and i was going to make my way out. someone in the crowd noticed me leaving and prompted me to stay put, "the next band, my morning jacket is incredible". thank god i took that mans advice. this performance blew my mind and in the moment of this song i was brought to awe. thank you for posting this.
I remember this moment like it was yesterday. Bonnaroo is a long musical weekend and it had rained, it was hot as hell, and me and my friends were all sunburnt and exhausted by the time MMJ got on to perform. We had heard a few songs from At Dawn, but were just going to see them because Modest Mouse was playing after and one of my acquaintances at the time (now he's my life long bud) absolutely loved this band. We are all sitting on the ground, tired and ready to go home - and when MMJ came on stage, none of us stood up. We just sat there, being beat down by the weekend. Then... all of a sudden... the drums... the bass... and right when the guitar came in, I looked down and I was standing... I don't even remember doing it. I look to my left and then to my right, and all my friends were on their feet - magically summoned by the power of MMJ. This is still one of my best concert memories, ever. They f'n rocked it and I've been a die-hard MMJ fan for life since that iconic moment. *sigh* Bonnaroo used to be great. Oh, and for the record... Modest Mouse f'n sucked.
Each time I hear the intro to this song a small part of me wants to quit my office job, lose 40 lbs, and learn how to cage fight. After a few minutes the dream fades and get back to work.
I was there. Magic is exactly what those whole 3 days were to me, what I remember anyway. I was at this show and I have it posted on my RUclips channel to forever remind me how lucky I once was as a young man in 2004. The biggest, the best Bonnaroo ever. On record.
I was there about an hour into my mushrooms what a miraculous beautiful spirit that evening My Morning Jacket best performance ever not to mention the ensuing storm the band summoned to relieve us from the scorching Heat this performance went into the wee hours it still might be going on
There's something about this song. No matter how many times I hear it, no matter what the setting is, I almost get teary eyed from the force this song is played with, and get an amazing rush of euphoria and just a rad sense of well-being. MMJ fo'life yo.
Saw them at Austin City Limits in 2004. Couldn’t see their faces, just a bunch of hair and they freakin rocked. Just off the It Still Moves tour if I recall.
I saw them the previous year in 2003 when they opened for Pete Yorn, and Foo Fighters. They blew the roof off the place and the whole crowd was just standing their motionless and unimpressed. Fast forward to 2008 and they are closing Bonnaroo playing a 4 hour set. Its sad that the majority of people only respond positively to things that are already known or familiar. Whenever I see a new band I always try to give them the best attention. You never know how awesome they will be in 5 years.
It was seeing this video that brought me back to what was important. I saw Jim James with his hair and that flying V. I thought, "No one's ever fucking telling me to cut my hair again." Life's too short, guys.
I was at this set! Stage right, just a few rows back. When the storm blew in, the whole stage shook, and the band's hair was flying everywhere, and they barely acknowledged it! Just kept playing...it was like they were summoning the thunder. Amazing.
That sounds absolutely incredible. The sets of multiple different bands I've seen when the sky falls out and nobody leaves. Just all getting drenched are by far the most memorable. I can only imagine how it was during this show.
I was at a Petty and the Heartbreakers show in Indy in 2005. Same thing. Thunderstorms circling all around their set but they kept playing even when the stage lights went out. The sound system was still powered.
It was one of my all time very best concert experiences. "You're a very brave and a very beautiful gang, and I salute you" I'll never forget that moment! Pure joy.
Vintage My Morning Jacket they have a huge following they don't want anything to do with mainstream makes me like them more but you are right people are missing out,
Onaje Gregory Beside the fact that we don't care about your opinion, you are completely deaf!!!!The drummer follows the studio version with 98% success....but whatever
Saw MMJ in West Palm last week, 1st show of the Americanarama tour and then the next night in Tampa. I'm 61, A HUGE Dylan fan ( he was awesome as usual) - but let me tell you, these guys blew me right away!!!!!!!! Jim James RULES period - end of story
The sky was angry that day, but it was the only thing that could stop the place from self combustion. I don't think I'll ever see anything musically in a live setting like it again. Or maybe I will, that's why live music is so live............
I was. And we all got a shower courtesy of Mother Nature as MMJ played on.....till it was too dangerous to be on a stage with that amount of electricity, which was miniscule to the amount of electricity the sky was playing with. That was a good day.
Haha. That place was definitely ready to explode. Some brewery was giving away free beer at the stage. It's safe to say that was the last year they allowed that. What an amazing show...
Every time I watch this one performance I remember why mmj are the best band on the scene. They just keep getting better and challenging us as listeners with their ever-changing sound.
12 beers deep, probably 3AM, mid-pandemic, having known them since 2004 cause you can't escape em in Louisville, I finally became a proper MMJ fan. Mostly because of this song
Was in the crowd for this one, don't think I've headbanged harder even at a Deftones show. To this day this tune will rock your face off and make you boogie down. Epic.
I saw them on this tour. The Sokol Underground in Omaha, NE. They played the whole set backwards, it was sorta crazy. And I had one of my first panic attacks I’d ever had, for some reason. Awesome timing, Brain. 🙄. Great show, either way.
This is straight up one of the most rocking songs ever
Always put a smile on my face.
yea it fuckin whips
Even when I'm dying I be thinking of this one big fucking holiday hay hay x

I’ve always said the exact same thing
The best live version of this I’ve ever heard
…of any song ever😃
Give the sound team a pay rise. This is immense.
Because it’s a live video overdubb’d with the same song from the Okonokos album. 🙄

13 years later and still wondering if anything will ever match this. Electric.
As far as I'm concerned My Morning Jacket are amongst the best bands to take a stage. Real musicians making music of real quality. They make me happy.
still the case 10 years later :)
Agreed and still true

Jesus, dat sound quality.
The sound engineers for this set are wizards. I'm blown away as well.
Incredible right??? Raw and live but crisp and catching all the dirty nuances.
Absolutely. This dude still sounds good live
I was just thinking the same thing, amazing sound on this
Every time the vocals kick in I well up with tears a little bit. This song just does somethin to me.
And since that day, no one has been able to bring the house back up.
***** Nope.
this should have 4 billion views.
This has such a 70's vibe to it that i can't stop listening to it, it saddens me that this isn't as popular like it NEEDS to be
the fact that this is not popular should make you happy
That would destroy it.
@@pratergatorautoI beg to differ. I’d rather hear this than synthesizers farting.

I got roped into seeing David Byrne instead too...big regrets for not staying for this
My morning jacket played on Saturday, Byrne was on Sunday. I was able to watch both.
played like there's no tomorrow
Completely agree.
Yes this is not good at all . it's above amazing..

The best beginning and ending to any song i've ever heard.
I just saw them live and when they played this as the last song in their encore, I was headbanging so hard my neck hurt for 3 days after.
This band needs a DVD for every live performance, its too much to handle
