Looking at the ones you chose, you really brought them back to their full glory. I do love a good skelator. And all of these rescues would be pride of place in any collection. I liked the tip about scraping the paint off around his mouth. Top tip!
@@Spottedfeather You would have to try to find out. I put a few drops on a piece of paper inside the armour a couple of months ago and he still smells like a hippie.
That one raggedy paintbrush was giving me anxiety. Glad you switched to the nice little one. Hahaha! Ooh, before and after split screens are sooo satisfying. Aaahhh.
It would have been funny if you had given 'Head On A Stick' to one of the other Skeletors to hold, like a particularly grisly battle staff. Great repairs, though. Nice one.
I'm 90% sure that was the Skeletor i sent you Dave along with the Action Man Machine Gun emplacement, C3PO & Mr T spares. (i believe his neck split when i removed his head) Some excellent colour matching there Dave, impossible to tell them apart from the originals.
Yeah that would be good as there really is much less armor out there than Skeletors. I've planned to do similar myself with some TMNT belts using different sizes of elastic in place of the original rubberised plastic.
Hey Dave I cannot get enough of watching you mix paint. When I do it I end up with a small container of paint, no where near the original colour...haha Hoping that your area is missing the new hit of that "crap virus!" Take care
You can have the Skeletors, I've been amassing Mer-Man (Mer-Men?) and accidentally, some how, Two-Bads. I have a couple of figures that need a desperate face restoration. I should get on that. Loved the video, and your Skeletor army looks great!
If you go to an artist supply shop you can get flexible paints for leather and Pu. I've painted rubber, leather and plastics in them and they flex perfectly for as long as I remember. They are not overly expensive and I suspect a lot more harder wearing than normal model paint
Acrylics are quite flexible as well. They dry with quite a rubbery texture and are cheap an easy for people to get. I'll take a look at the ones you suggest and see what they are made of. Cheers
I really needed to see a great restoration like this today :) If I could give some advice on the Vallejo paints Dave, you might find them to be nicer than the Humbrol, as Vallejo boasts that their paints are a "purer" acrylic. I use them quite a lot and Formula P3 for hand brushing tiny details. They level really well, can easily be mixed for new colors, and thinned a bit with water. In the modeling community there's a bit of caution towards some of the Humbrol acrylics as they can have a sandy/grainy texture, I've had this happen once and it was quite noticeable. Vallejo also have a "Game Color" range with a lot of unique flesh tones and very bright colors that many toys would have used.
I love the new Origins Skeletor, but I must admit that the original head sculpt will always be my favorite. I’ll be looking for a vintage Skeletor on eBay so I can do a head swap ;)
I love your videos 💙 it's amazing to see a damaged toy get repaired/repainted 🙂 (btw. if possible, could you maybe do a video about repairing/repainting a vintage "Thundercats" Lion'o ?)
How is it that the brake fluid only loosens up the added paint? Is there a certain amount of time to soak or is the original plastic solid black? Learn a lot from your videos, cheers!
Do you know if the paints specifically marketed for models are different enough from regular acrylic paint you'd get in an art supply aisle (the cheaper kind, not the more expensive "artist quality") to make a difference? I've used my painting acrylics before for touch-ups, but wondered if the acrylic "model" paint works better for figures.
The torsos seem to "yellow" with time. Does hydrogen peroxide and ultra violet light restore them? I've seen that down with other plastics from aged products (computers).
If I am gonna wash a figure in soapwater, does that effect the "leg string" in any way. They can be brittle the original "legs trings" or will they be just fine after its dried? And how do you dry it after its had a bath?
The leg bands degrade anyway, water should not affect them at all. Air dry, or dry off most the water and let air dry after that. Do not submerge them fully as they have a spring inside that will rust.
Hello, this news may surprise you. In Spain, this same year the “trepas” appeared for sale, as they say in English. the "climbs" are the masks to paint the colored parts of skeletor. To paint each part, they were put on the face and with each one they painted yellow and then the eyes, until completing the painting of the entire head, appeared in the eviction of the factory where under the license of. congost figures were made. the price paid for the 6 "climbs" was 13,000 euros. yes indeed 11738 GPB. there is an interview. If you put in the gogle search engine "trepas skeletor spain" you can see photos. , the collector who bought them lives in "the canary islands". It is almost certain that it is a unique piece in the world, since that was something that was not guaranteed and always ended up in the trash.
I have a doubt ... painting the skeletor heads or parts of the figure, does it lower the value of its price or is it maintained ??? I have several skeletors with scratches and they look very good, but I am worried that they will lower the value ...
It all depends why you collect. I'm collecting for the fun of it and don't spend much on what I buy. So the value of them to start with is not much. It's up to you what you do with your own toys. For me it's not the value of them, but the fun I can have with them. Cheers
I went to Lowe's I found these really small metal hook. I used a Hair dryer on high. on the legs the hook part went right i n. Nice & strong. then I filled up the waist area. harder. then just screwed in the hooks Now they are nice & strong. I think hooks Work too cause they are stronger.

@Toy Polloi What product is that final gloss top coat you're using? I have a few Skeletors that need the same treatment as these do :)
Humbrol acrylic 135. But you can get all sorts.
I have a stupid question, do they make those bands in smaller versions for the female figures?
Yes, they do!
It looks like a metallic yellow on the skeletors face
What was the final application that you applied after painting the faces? Thank you.
A clear top coat. Humbrol and Valejo make them. I use a semi gloss as I think it matches the original finish better.
None with glow in the dark paint?
What's in the large jar that you dip your brush before wiping out of curiosity?
Water. It's just a bit dirty from the paint. I change it before I start painting.
My Skeletor's face fell off, so I've been thinking about a repaint for a while.
