Thank you Emily!!! As someone who finds sci-fi intimidating this is so sweet.
Happy to help (aka force everyone to try sci-fi) :P
I've recently just started reading hard sci-fi and I was literally just looking for guides. You're the best 😝
It’s actually « two birds one stone » but it’s ok Emily we still love you😂😘
That's what I get for filming early in the morning XD
You are right, Snowglobe Emily should have been wearing her aluminium hat.
Might be why her wig flew...
Ironically, "Emily's Pile of Shame" would be a great book title
An alien in the thumbnail but snow globe Emily not wearing another tinfoil hat. Missed opportunity.
Damn.... I need to find the hat!
Laughing over your 2 birds 1 stone brain fart 😂 The most relatable you’ve ever been after returning to work after a 3 day weekend and 2 snow days before that for this school psychologist!
I've been waiting for you to read The Three-Body Problem, so I freaked out when I saw you pick it up + "NEW FAVORITE" in the title!! I'm so glad you loved it! The sequel is even better!!!! I don't usually use so many exclamation marks but I'm very excited!!!!!!!!!!!
The Expanse is a phenomenal series. It's one of the ones that gets better and better as it goes from book to book, instead of getting stale and running out of juice. I can't wait to finish it.
I'm also downloading The Three-Body Problem on Scribd right now. You've inspired me.
I really enjoyed the Three Body Problem - but the second book in the series is my absolute favorite!
When you describe listening to the audiobook in the dark because you're enjoying it so much - I had the same thing with "The Secret History", literally went to bed at 3am because I was so engaged with a story❤
It's the best feeling!!
@@BookswithEmilyFox It is a wounderful feeling! I remember getting through 10 hours of audiobook in one day despite having uni and work - I just couldn't make myself stop!
Also, I've read somewhere that "The Three Body Problem" is favorite sci-fi of Barack Obama
If you like The Three Body Problem then wait til you get to the last book - it is mind boggling. Love them all.
I also absolutely loved the Three-Body Problem up to the 70-75% mark. After that it just felt rushed and very very abstract. I felt like characters and atmosphere were forgotten in favour of " smart" plot. I still have to read the next one, though.
2 BIRDS with 1 STONE
It's almost better like this... that way everyone knows I'm still me. If I made no mistakes... it would almost be weird!
you convinced me, i'm getting the three body problem asap 🎉
I really enjoy your videos this year. I always did but these challenges keep me excited for the next video, every week.
2001 Space Odyssey movie is hypnotizing..so great. The book is just like the movie. It's amazing, quick read, page turner. You'll really like it!
Both 3-Body and 2001 are on my list for this year! I’m so excited to dig into them. And I’m so happy for you to have found a new favorite!
“I mean veux veux pas” your french’s coming through 😂👌
As a billingual, these are the best parts tho 🤣🤣 I speak half english and half french all the time, it's seriously so fun.
I'm a simple woman: I see Sci Fi, I watch
what is your favorite sci-fi?
@@Morfeusm I haven't read a lot yet. unfortunately, but I really like the Wayfarers series so far and I really enjoyed An Absolutely Remarkable Thing :)
I knew you would love Three Body Problem :) one of the best books I read last year. Couldn’t stop until I read the other 2 as well
All the books you've started are the ones I love. Hope you'll have time to continue reading them soon!
I love how personalized your videos are! It’s so helpful for readers how there who want more ideas for different new genres or just some popular books out there other readers are reading! Thanks for making videos! You’re helping my knowledge and library grow!
I love these challenges! Happy you found a new favorite ❤️
Left hand of darkness is very good. I hope you enjoy it.
absolutely loving this vlog series!
Yesssss I recently bought Cixin Liu's book! Now I'm more excited to read it!!!
I read Leviathan wakes recently, it was my first hard sci fi and I loved it, definitely made me interested in reading more sci fi 😊 just made a reservation for "the three body problem" in the library as well!
Yeeey!!! Finally you read The three body problem!!!! Book 2 is by far my favorite!!! You need to read it as soon as posible! :D
I'm impatiently waiting for March XD
I hope you have had a amazing Valentines evening❤️
I am so curious to see what you will think of Leviathan wakes. I have listened the first two chapters, but lost the audiofile. So really need to get into it again!
And I love these mini challenges 😊
Thank you! ❤️
I have been enjoying them too but I fear I'll end up with 10 half read books by the end of the month XD
@@BookswithEmilyFox new challenge: can I finish all the books I didn't finish in other challenges within a week 😂
@@CarinaSchrijft that's a great idea. 😅 Please do it Emily!
It is such a happy feeling when you find a book you love!!
I love this series! Also your hair is gorgeous. Your fringe (bangs) are on fleek girl!
I will definitely try this challenge sometime, I think it would help me to spread out my reading beyond just my most anticipated books
Emilyyyyyyyy!!! Lol I’m really liking these one week one shelf challenge!!! ❤️🥰
thanks to you im really into Sci-fi now, I bought children of time, recursion and skyward and I guess now I have to read the three body problem too, I also read dark matter and I loved it!!!! keep the good recommendations coming!!!
I am so happy that you like the three body problem! I absolutely love the whole series and gave every book 5 stars. Never knew I could be so interested into Science Fiction and the first contact with alien trope till i read this series!
yayyy! new video! looking gorgeous emily!!
I love these shelf challenges ❤❤❤
I loved the Three-Body Problem, I read it when you first mentioned it on your channel.
I just got “do androids dream of electric sheep” for Galentines!! It’s going to be my sci-fi pick for my next read!
Hello Emily 👋 I hope you are having a great day! Keep being yourself 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
I love these challenges.
I love these videos! I might do something like this as well, because it looks like so much fun and I need to read my owned books!
So happy you found one you enjoyed so much! I really liked it, as well, read it last week. This week, I read Ninefox Gambit and Six of Crows and loved them SO much, as well - only picked all of them up due to Goodreads and Booktube recommendations and am very grateful. :-)
It's so nice seeing you so excited about these books! I would consider delaying the one week one shelf challenge to continue the Cixin Liu books or finish Leviathan Wakes while you're still into them. Might as well read stuff you're for sure enjoying!
I am going to look for The Three Body Problem - thanks for the review
I've added a lot of books to my reading list by looking at your shelf. You can never read too much sci fi!
Oooh Leviathan Wakes seriously picks up, I was hooked by a certain point there, and the 2nd book is one of my absolute faves of all time. Hope you enjoy it!
The only specific of the three body problem audiobook I remember is the narrator chanting "rehydrate", that kept making me laugh
Audiobooks can really affect how certain portions of the book are perceived XD
I remember in The Martian, there's a huge section of just numbers which.... not great for audiobooks lol
Or there was a chapter in All Our Wrong Todays where it's only the word "fuck" being repeated over and over...
Oh cool, I didn’t realise you could tell Libby where you wanted to listen to (like the end of the chapter), that’s so cool!! I will definitely do that in future. 😂 Aaah that’s so cool, you’ve found a good book! I now wish to read it. 👀
I hadn’t realized either 😂 it’s the little moon icon!
Did you ever continue Cixin Liu's series? I adored the first book too!
My husband really liked The Three Body Problem series.
I listened to Leviathan Wakes last month and loved it!
Ahhh End of Eternity is soooo goood!!!
So glad to hear you enjoyed the Three Body Problem so much! I am hoping to pick it up next after I finish my current read. Also really happy to hear you enjoyed Leviathan Wakes enough to continue. I absolutely adore that series (read books 1 through 8 in a couple months), and find it kinda funny that you have books 1, 3 and 4 but not the 2nd one😂
That’s what happens when your buy most of your books used 😂 I even bought book 3 twice because I thought it was the one I was missing haha Did you watch the tv show? I heard good things and I’m hoping to watch it once I read a couple of the books!
I hope you’ll love TTBP too!
@@BookswithEmilyFox I actually just finished the first season this past week. I think they do a great job of portraying the society brought up in the books, and I'm enjoying it so far (despite the fact that it is deviating from the books a bit in terms of pacing). I've also heard that the newest season, which was made by Amazon, is phenomenal and each episode is better than the last.
Nice, love sci - fi. Have fun! Oh, and you look great, as usual.
I am currently reading the 7th book in the Expanse series, and I think its my favourite book of the series tied with book 5
You looked so stunning in the green sweater 😍
I've been following you for awhile, and I love your channel! for 2020 my goal is to read more horror and sci fi! I have gotten some excellent recommendations like children of time my fav book of 2019 :D
I loved The End of Eternity. I hope you still read it soon.
Well, you can keep on reading the three-body problem series. I mean...there's no law against it. And I can't wait to see your review on goodreads!! Maybe you could make a review video, oh my, that would be greeeeeaat
I loved 2001 space odyssey I read it last year
I have been wanting to read more Sci-Fi. Children of Time I've heard is great!
It's really good and unique!
I have beginner's guide in a "like this? try that" style if you want to find something close to what you usually enjoy! ruclips.net/video/l8UPAUkQIPI/видео.html
"Long even though it's short" - perfectly describes LeGuin
I really enjoy watching your reading vlogs. It always inspires me to read. 😊
it's kind of fitting that you finished Frankenstein this week, since its the first ever sci-fi book!
The cutest kitty mug ever 😭
The eyes used to disappear when it had hot water in... doesn't work anymore thanks to the sun XD
Ooooh I LOVED Leviathan Wakes, and I read it after I watched the show. So I kinda knew what was gonna happen and still it was amazing! Maybe it's just my active imagination but some parts of the book sent shivers down my spine, for some reason I found them kinda scary haha. Also I just finished Children of Time because I saw you recommending it and OMG I absolutely loved it, so thank you! Finished the book sobbing like a baby hahaha
My daughter loved Three Body Problem, and afternoon this video, I have to put it on my TBR next month! I have read 2001. I enjoyed it, but it was not a five for me.
2:34 lolol it’s 2 birds 1 stone 🤣 but anyway i am realky enjoying this challenge. Great way to get through your physical tbr. Also! It’s so nice to see you really really enjoy a book!
I had to keep it since I was so proud of I had finally found the right expression while being still wrong XD
It definitely keeps things interesting!
the three body problem is on my dads bookshelf and now I really wanna pick them up - an animated adaptation is also currently in the works for it, if you are interested, but I don't think it has a release date yet
Edit: I just started reading it today, so far I also really like it :)
Where do you get your sweaters? They look so soft. Also, good to know you really like Three body problem...been meaning to pick it up and now I definitely will!
Hi Emily,
I've been a fan for a long time, i love how unapologetic and honest you are, and i have lots of fun watching your videos. Writing this because I also read material books and always have that audiobook up my sleeve. So I wanted to kindly ask you if you could do a "best audiobook experiences" kind of things - I love listening to non fiction that way but I struggle to find other genres i enjoy the reading - my favourites out of the non fiction genre were Mythos by Stephen Fry and i really enjoyed Sadie by Courtney Summers, both great experiences. Either because the narrations were amazing or how they picked an awesome cast, really would like to hear your recommendations about this!
Please carry on being awesome and sharing it with us
I'm actually planning a "best audiobooks" video soon(ish!) :)
@@BookswithEmilyFox YAAAY! Can't wait
The Three Body Problem is in my list so i might get it eventually if you liked it so much. I have Leviathan Wakes and i want to eventually read the book since i adore The Expanse. Very good series and i hope the books are as good or better. I read Frankenstein some years ago. Don't remember much (I was to young for that type of book to really appreciate it). The 2001 Space Odyssey only saw the movie (a bit confusing, gotta say) and never thought about reading the book. Maybe i should =)
RUclips didn’t send me a notification today! I always stop everything to watch your videos 😭
Two birds with one stone, lol, I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets confused with metaphors
you got me to read more sci-fi, sadly I did not enjoy The Martian but murderbot was nice! I bought the humans, a long way to a small angry planet, and many more because of you!
The humor in The Martian is definitely not for everyone lol
Hope you'll enjoy the other ones :)
The end of eternity is brilliant. I didn't enjoy the three body problem
I just dnfed Ken Lius one coming out next week. I'm scared go pick up another by him now it was very intense
I'm not a hard sci-fi fan myself (though I love low/light sci fi) but my dad is hugely into all sci fi. I bought him Skyward for Christmas because of your recommendation (also because he loved mistborn despite rarely being into fantasy, thought if he liked Sanderson so much he liked a fantasy then he'd love his sci fi) and he finished it a few days ago and absolutely loved it!
Yay! So happy he loved it! Good news for him, book 2 is already out!
What are your favorite sci-fi books?
@@BookswithEmilyFox yes he's very excited to get onto book 2! My favourite is actually The Humans! I read it for the first time years ago so when you picked it up a while ago and loved it I was so happy!
Awesome 😄
Glad to hear you loved The Three-Body Problem! I personally think that's the weakest of the trilogy, but the entire series is sooo good! I hope you'll enjoy the rest! :)
That’s the best news ever 😂👌
the main character's name is Ye
you know who i m talking about
I read the whole three-body series in two days. The first and second ones are awesome, the last one is still good but not as awesome as the other two.
I will give "The Three Body Problem" a second chance. I stated "Leviathan Wakes" but didn't feel like reading this long series.
One stone - two birds.
5:20 WIG
Have you ever read Hyperion?
I was excited when I saw you pick 2001 as it was one of the first SF novels I read way back in I think 1969 . Ive read the sequel "2010" and have seen both movies One of the books I read last year (Adam Roberts By The pricking of her Thumb ) has a section of it set in a Virtual Reality set in the PreHistoric world of Part One of 2001 . Are you going to try and finish 2001 ?
Are there emotional aspects to the three body problem as well or is it straight facts? One of the things I loved about Blake Crouch is his ability to include both a great mixture of science fiction and emotional depth. I was wondering where this stood because I'm going to try to get to this trilogy this year. It's on my TBR. But i also want to know how much time to allot to it.
The characters feel a bit flat but I'm not sure if it's cultural differences, the translation or... just the writing. There are some emotional aspects to some decisions in the book but it's hard to say anything about it all without spoilers lol
@@BookswithEmilyFox thanks that helps! Really excited to read this myself this year. Litterally one of the first trilogies I bought when I first discovered booktube and it's been a long time coming.
You should put your books of shame in the cat mug!
But then I would have to actually read them...
Seriously though, I'll do more "pile of shame" vlogs because there are so many good books I started but never finished XD
Is your pile of shame also in the jar? Is there a chance you'll pull it lol
It’s not but maybe it should be 😂
I'm happy but surprised that you enjoyed The Three Body Problem as much as you did. I personally did think the science bits were interesting and all, but the characters were all the same and had literally no personality whatsoever! This and the fact that the story took a weird turn really ruined the book for me. But as I said, I'm happy that you enjoyed it and everyone's taste is not the same!
Si tu es curieuse cherche "Beauty with Emily Fox + French" lol
Me! Me! Me! I haven't read Space Odyssey and know nothing about it!!
Edit: typo!
Yay! I feel less alone haha
@@BookswithEmilyFox could is be a Canadian thing? lolol
Good luck with Cixin Liu. Then again, you might like the series but oh gosh...I hated it.
I’ve audio but no video..am I partially banned? Yt works otherwise fine...🤷🏻♀️
You shouldn't be.. is it working now?
Yea 😅 still it was strange 😅 nice week
Too bad you didn't choose, I Am Legend, it's a great book.
I mentioned I’ve already read it!
I had no clue that Emily without bangs is the same person as Emily with bangs until now.
LOL they really make me look different huh
@@BookswithEmilyFox Don't worry, you wear them well
Isnt one stone two birds?😂
two birds one stone... my brain early in the morning without coffee was clearly not quite functional XD
@@BookswithEmilyFox right that😂😂
Sci fi bookshelf and no Lem or Vonnegut? Riot! Hard sci fi and no Greg Egan? Double riot!
I have 5 shelves of sci-fi! I do have some Lem and Vonnegut but no Greg Egan. Any recommendations?
@@BookswithEmilyFox My comment was a bit tongue-in-cheek (hope I nailed the expression, not my native language), I watch your channel every now and then so I'm aware you love sci-fi:)
As for Greg Egan - I only read Permutation City, and DNFed it twice (!) before I got to the end the third time. Extremely difficult, but very rewarding if you like hard and philosophical sci-fi. Also - plot twist about 1/3 way into the book the magnitude of which some other authors save for the very end. My friend recommended his other works to me as "great, but some math required". Which the author provides, on his website.
His website gregegan.net is hideous but has tons of samples of his works, try it and see if it's your cup of tea.
this is so weird but you look a lot like kate del castillo lol (she plays tereza mendoza in the telenovela “la reina del sur”)
