Great explanation of the difference between acrylic and traditional gouache! Some artists really enjoy the intermixing and rewetting of traditional, gum arabic-bound gouache, but many prefer the self-sealing permanence of the acrylic version. Another great advantage to acrylic gouache is the ability to use it on canvas, or in combination with tube acrylic colors. Before acrylic gouache was introduced, art students used to "cheat" by adding PVA glue to gouache, making a DIY vinyl dispersion paint that sealed itself and changed color less when drying (another challenge with traditional gouache).
This video came at the right time for me. I received a birthday gift of gouache tubes and I never used them. Now I am inspired to give them a try and experiment with them. Your work is amazing by the way!
I’d love to try acrylic gouache as I think it would solve a lot of the problems I have with regular gouache, but I do love that regular gouache can be reactivated in the palette though, it feels less wasteful ❤
You’re an extremely underrated artist. I feel like your type of media varies so may artistic interests and your voice overs are always descriptive and fun!
Thank you for posting! I've been stuck on an acrylic gouache piece for the past month (not difficulty-wise, just a case of the I-don't-wanna s), and painting along with you really helped to get my butt in gear. I might actually finish this thing in this life time. XD Probably cringe to admit, but my acrylic gouache palette is the plate from our old microwave. When it kicked the bucket I realized the plate was a thick, sturdy clear glass that would be easy to clean and it was the best pre-emptive dumpster dive of my art life.
Love how u speak about both kinds of Gouache ❤ i have only ever used Himi Gouache and Arteza Gouache. But my favorite thing to paint with has been a Pastel Set I made of Opaque watercolors mostly self mixed. Its so creamy and so many levels of layers i can build as long as i dont eat the paper up too quickly. 😅
One thing I like about acrylic gouache is that it really feels like a little goes a long way. A while back I did a series of 15 paintings for my final university project and I only had to replace my white, most of the other tubes barely have a dent in them. I don’t know if it’s the same with regular gouache cause I haven’t used it nearly as much.
Hi Tina! I have a question: I live in Brasil. If I sign up to your patreon do I receive the prints and stickers or is it only for north america residents?
What do you do for varnish and isolation coat? I was told that you should seal a finished picture with GLOSS medium even if you want it to look Matt. Then you put the Matt varnish over the top. Is this right?
I am painting whit gouache. I never tryed acrylic gouache and its expensiver than a himi miya gouache set. Myby in the future i try acrylic gouache. I love you,re painting 😊
Interesting! I heard that for mixed media this Acrylic Gouache is not really suitable for finishing with color pencils, any thoughts on that?!.. I know that traditional Gouache or Watercolor allowing color pencils very well and almost seems like it is made to work together.. But the pencils become dull on top of this acrylic gouache and so people recommend Flashe Vinyl over Acrylic Gouache.. If only the acrylic Gouache would take pencils just like traditional gouache or like Flashe Vinyl, it would actually be the most premium art medium.. What I do like much about Acrylic Gouache over traditional, less color change when dry, more cheap than traditional gouache, it does not crackle being flexible, less brush stroke textures and it does not reactivate after drying.. Though the big downside is that it does not take pencil very well, which is huge if not being able to potentially be the base layer for hyper realistic pencil drawing and or just semi realistic pencil renderings ect..
Off topic but I realllly wanna see how you would paint ice spice in your style🥹 I don’t usually ask artists to paint something but I really love your art is so beautiful and I’m sooooo curious of how you would paint ice spice and she has many fun colors that I feel you would enjoy finding the inspiration for the painting/study for a video. 🩷
Acrylic gouach is not as cheap as like the himi miya gouache i am doubting about buying acrylic gouache and testing it. What if i don,t like it than its bye bye 97,59 euro,s

Such a beautiful illustration 😍 it's amazing to watch the process and it's admiring how much effort you put in your artwork ✨
Using the excess paints from the knife in 21:05 is so real😭 I too wouldn’t let expensive paints go to waste

I have acrylic gouache from liquitex in my amazone shopping list. It was the cheapest acrylic gouache i could find😊
did you use a refance and if so can you tell me where u got the refance
So if acrylic gouache dries permanent etc, what is then the difference between it and just straight up acrylic paints?
