We had former US ambassador to Kuwait James Larocco speak at my University about 3 weeks ago. He spoke about the Arab Spring and Bahrain. In a lot of cases, he mentioned the US likes to deal with the devil they know, than the devil they don't, and are not afraid of sacrificing basic rights in support of vital interests. In particular to Bahrain, the vital interest is the freedom of navigation, where a substantial amount of energy is flowing out that narrow strait to countries around the world. What I got out of the talk was that, interests > rights. So don't fall for that bullshit when they say they are committed to basic human rights around the world, when we ourselves rank as one of the worst violators.

This outward-looking nature was further strengthened by education reforms started at the beginning of the 20th Century which spurred the development of the Kingdom’s middle class and thus gave the country a very different economic structure than many of its neighbors." Емил Ефендулов it's kind of hard to say the media isn't being truthful here with all of the video evidence in this video. i'm sure that there is a lot more to the story then this but still there is no excuse for what the police did to the protestors in representation of the monarchy. what i heard a few years ago, this has a lot to do with sunni dominance over minority shiites and shiites being discriminated against when it comes to jobs. there are also other sunnis who feel discriminated against and they have joined up with the shiites in protest.
Edward: The sad thing Is shias aren't even minority, they ar majority And the only real Bahrainies. Bahraini sunnies with Al chalifa family invaded the country 3 centuries ago And current gvm Is importing sunni foreigners And giving them citizenship while striping many shias from it. as a neutral Bahraini citizen i must say that although some of the points mentioned here are objectively valid, this video only shows the opposition's arguments; both the government and opposition are guilty of crimes against each other and rather than pointing fingers at who is innocent and who's guilty, both parties should be charged and judged accordingly, this is how justice will be made, this is not a simple matter where one party is absolutely guilty and the other absolutely innocent. All they've been doing in the past 4 years is using each others crimes to justify their own crimes, which causes a never ending loop of committing crimes and blaming the other party.
Reality is Bahrain is comparatively poor and the sunni royal family understandably favors its own supporters for government jobs instead of the shia rebels that want them gone. If the shia were to gain power the place would quickly be turned into a socialist shithole with high taxes (unable to attract investment), all the oil money going towards appeasing the masses and destined to starve once the oil is gone. Realistically the best thing in the long run is for the monarchy to stay and enable further economic growth.

I have personally admired the topics covered by vice and vice news as they were always unbiased and objective and I never commented on any RUclips content ever but the content on this documentary provoked me and I will speak up. I'm an expat residing in Bahrain for almost three years now and when I first came to Bahrain I had no deep knowledge about the so called "unrest" and i analysed facts based on my daily observations and interactions with Bahrainis from both sects (Sunni's and Shia's) and built my conclusion based on that. Following are my comments on this documentary to both the reporter and the production team: 1. I would have really appreciated if the reporter took both sides of the story as truth is always somewhere in between. 2. Did the team do a research on the demographics of the opposition? Did you question yourself how come all the interviewees were Shias and I strongly believe it can't be a coincidence. 3. Did anyone ever wonder why were there flags with statements such as "يا حسين" raised by the protestors in the footage embedded in the documentary -if you don't get what I mean, research it-. 4. Did the reporter ask any of the interviewees what are they protesting for, what's the cause they are fighting for, what are the real reasons they are destroying "their own country". 5. Did anyone even bother to quantify the impact that this unrest had on Bahrain's economy and economical growth. 6. Don't you think that the expected reaction from any civil defence army all over the world when attacked by Molotov cocktails is to shoot tear gas canisters against the offenders? 7. Where did the reporter conclude from that Sheikh Nasser is a playboy!? 8. I invite the whole team again to visit Bahrain to proof to you that Bahrain is exactly what you see in glossy magazines and not what you have reported here. 9. The dictatorship and the regime that Nabil Rajab was offending has released him again a couple o weeks ago if you check Bahrain's local news. 10. A message to Nabil Rajab: "in any royal monarchy, the power is distributed between the royal family, I don't find it surprising that the king appoints his son as a crown prince; please do a more deeper research on royal monarchies. You might need to find a more solid reasons to justify why you oppose the ruling regime in Bahrain and its legitimacy" I leave you with all these questions and feel free to interact politely and objectively. 10. A message to Nabil Rajab: "in any royal monarchy, the power is distributed between the royal family, I don't find it surprising that the king appoints his son as a crown prince; please do a more deeper research on royal monarchies. I leave you with all these questions and feel free to interact politely and objectively.
Thank you.
