DIY Compost Bays using Pallets

  • A good composting system is the heart of the vegetable garden, creating nutrient rich compost to mulch the garden and feed the soil.
I decided to make the compost bays for the new garden using pallets as they are cheap, or free, and are generally easy to access.
I also decided to add a roof to the structure to enable me to both save water, and regulate the amount of water that enters the compost.
This was the only aspect of the system that costed anything, but all in all it was only around £250, which is fairly reasonable for a system of this size. You could even seek out similar materials for free online.
I hope you found the short guide useful and comment below if you have any further questions.
    Thanks for watching 😊🌱

Hi bro this is a good build i have a suggestion, you mention using screws to attach the front pallets and when you ready to access the compost you will remove the screws i think install door hinges to each of the front pallets will be easier to open as a Door to each individual bins.

or just put one screw in a top corner so you can twist the door out of the way

Will be building a similar structure to store fire wood.

This looks great! If I had built that, I'd put a chair out there and spend a significant amount of time admiring my work. :) Great job, thanks for sharing your process.

Heavy duty bungee cords to hold the fronts on would be strong enough as well as eady to remove when you need to access the bins.
    Nice job.

Thank you for making this video! I’ve watched quite a few with instructions on the basic concept, but couldn’t work out how to put a roof on it. This solution seems perfect! I have my pallets already, now to source the 2x2’s and some corrugated sheeting 😬

Nice job, mine is just a metal net box, i enjoyed building it but i’d like something with a roof collecting water. Any good hi t on how to compost material? Like when to stir, temperature control and best ways to speed up the process?

I really like your content and I'm sad it's locked inside the walled garden of Instagram. Good idea to share further more outside those sad boundaries would be to publish compilations on RUclips. For example cluster together all videos talking about Basil growing, compilation about plants that can be consumed in infusions, etc

Do you sell any of your vegetables locally? I am particularly interested in the heirloom tomatoes. I live and work in North Lincs and Humberside areas and am always searching for organic options.
