Thanks for the video. Here in Alaska they put gravel down on the roads in the winter. I go through a windshield every year. Knowing how to do it myself will save me a lot of time and money.
Thank you for making this video! I did not know adhesive was needed to install it. I thought the glass was only held in by the gasket. I'm sure glad I waited to R&R the windshield. And again thank you for doing this. Sir you have saved me a lot of grief and trouble. Well I suppose it will be next week before I get the new one put in. Thanks again! PT in Eagleville TN
+Redneck Garage. Help. Have replaced a washer pump? I bought a new tank and the old (still working) pumps are threaded to a strainer inside the tank. The problem I got is the pumps are mounted on the bottom of the tank and the access is about 1 1/2 dia. hole that's about 13 inches from the bottom of the tank. I don't have a tool long enough to hold the strainer in place while it's threaded back on tot the pump. Got and suggestions?
A round bead is very bad. High risk of trapping air bubbles in the urethane and it will pop during the drying process. Need to run a V bead so when you push the window down it forms a square bead and has no room for air bubbles to develop. Also rubber gloves so you don't contaminate the glass. Activator should be used for the glass not primer unless the glass has not frit band. Primer is OK to but activator is specifically for glue to glass. Also etch the frit band on the glass so you eliminate the left over chemicals from when the glass is made.
Well I was able to Mcgiver the strainers that have the threads on them that hold the pumps in place! I heated a 1/4" universal socket with a torch and melted the socket into the strainer and kept it attached and used a long socket extension and installed the pumps to the strainers without a problem.
Thanks for all the help just wanted to do a quick update lol. It turned out to be an absolute nightmare...Like I said I ordered the complete kit from Morris 4x4 so you would think everything would fit...think again. Turned out i wasn't crazy and the inner gasket wasn't correct along with the outer gasket not fitting either. Also either the glass or the frame was out of whack because there was no space in the corners to allow the outer gasket to fit. Long story short 3M black urethane devil crap all over the place... face, hands, legs... and nothing fitting in to place. I even ended up calling a professional auto glass installer and had him come over to help and he said the same thing nothing was fitting right and it was best to return everything because it was not right at all. I knew it was weird when I ordered the kit because it didn't come all together and instead each piece was shipped from multiple different spots (WA, MA, GA). Any way thanks for the help, you explained everything great and it would of gone smooth if it wasn't for all that bs.
Hey Red that was a really good video but you should have painted the frame the color you are going to paint your jeep before you did all that. It will be a PITA now to do it right and you will have rust issues if you just try to skirt around it now !
Bad idea to wash the frame. Now you know you unintentionally got water inside the frame. It is 2 frames factory tack welded together and in between tack welds water can seep in and get trapped inside. I used seam sealer around perimeter of frame.
OK. Mine is a 97 and still had the old ribbon seal. Must have been after 97 when they went to urethane in tubes like newer cars. It seems to b like the old camaros where the bead height is important so the reveal molding will fill up the Space but not b too close to glass. Outside chrome trim needs to be close to glass so no gap shows. I'm not finding anything online about which height ribbon to use. Maybe someone who knows will pipe in.
Hmmm I know in 95 the factory procedures was urethane so possibly someone replaced your windshield without using the right adhesive . You can look at the online factory repair manual here for free - www.jeep4x4center.com/knowledge-base/index.htm#service
Hey man great video! Love to see a fellow jeep enthusiast doing his own repairs. One question though, what year and make is your rig? Could you put a link to the adhesive and primer?
Where did you get your frame for the tj .vrown ? Or omix or key omix seems to be the heaviest at 25 lbs. But prices go from 600 to 150 for my yj I used omix cause of weight what do you think ?
yea I have a windshield already in but there is a bad rust spot in frame is it hard to transfer my windshield to a new frame already have a new frame just don't want to mess up
Hell yeah my man thanks so much for these vids! Definitely makes things a little easier. Few questions: How long did you wait for that primer to dry before putting on the glass adhesive? Also, how long did the glass urethane adhesive take to dry/cure before you can install the windshield frame back onto the Jeep?
The primer dried pretty quick maybe 30 mins. I let the glass cure for about 3 hours befor I reinstalled - overnight would be even better I think - you are welcome - thanks for watching !
Redneck Garage Thanks for the reply, I'm actually doing this as we speak and I came up on a problem so I figured I'd ask the pro. Did you use a glass seal clip (the clip that seals the outer gasket ends together? www.4wheelparts.com/Doors-Door-Accessories/Windshield-Glass-Seal-Clip.aspx?t_c=87&t_s=503&t_pt=7881&t_pn=CRO55134656&emlprox=out&ppcfon=1&gp=1&gclid=CjwKEAjwo5OpBRDU64qO07OXq00SJADn5hYn50aZOs-nQP3KEvGrKRjMSD08sTjB6DRuD02LkQcU7xoC933w_wcB .......I have this one, but I cannot get this thing to fit at all so I was wondering if it was necessary?
Redneck Garage Also, did you have to cut your inner glass gasket seal? Mine has like an extra couple inches on it and cutting it seems like the only option, but I didn't see you cut yours so I'm confused...I know the outer seal needs to be cut, but I thought the inner was supposed to be a perfect fit? I ordered the kit from morris 4x4, and no instructions are included so I've just been going by your video. Sorry to be bothering you about this I'm pretty lost haha, I'll be sure to spread the word about your channel you've seriously been a big help.
No problem at all yes the inner had to be trimmed a bit try and go just a hair longer for shrinkage. As it is just for looks it isnt critical anyway as the seal is from the sealant.
Redneck Garage Ok thanks for the reply, I just did that ,but now I noticed after i put in the glass for a test fit it does not sit flush with the frame anymore because it is lifted by the inner gasket, is that normal?
Do not use pinch weld primer on the glass, Dow 828 urethane is primer-less for the glass, by doing what he has done you are in jeopardy of having the windshield bond release in a accident.
12Achilleas Yeah its possible, you gotta make a little hole and then use a metal wire and cut the urethane with it. One hand outside, the other hand inside and you slice with the wire back and forth.
Thanks for this! I've been looking for an instructional for this too and haven't seen anything. 2 questions. Do you think I could get away with using the existing inner seal on the windshield (the bigger one) or does the urethane adhere to that too? And 2, would you recommend putting the outer rubber on before laying the glass? Thanks!!
If you can clean up the urethane on the inner giving enough space for new urethane it should be fine. The factory procedure is to replace it due to the urethane being so hard to cut or remove. If it were me I would buy a gasket kit on Ebay for 39.00 rather than fight with an old one. www.ebay.com/itm/1987-1995-Jeep-Wrangler-Windshield-Glass-Seal-Gasket-Top-Quality-/360769421672?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Year%3A1995%7CMake%3AJeep&hash=item53ff888168&vxp=mtr As far as placing the outer on first I doubt it because it is made to be trimmed after you push it in all the way.
Nice work dude , your a lucky man for having a hard working lady helping you out.
I know this is an old video but I'm 18 and restoring a YJ I just bought. Your videos have helped me immensely.
Jon Watson Thanks Jon - keep turnin wrenches !!!!! - David

I think I eliminated fooling with that part after looking at it :)
great video thanks loads I plan to watch more videos on the 95 yj as I need help thanks again
Glad it helped
I never seen a electric caulk gun before.Nice work!
It is still working like a champ :)

+tuckermerch Way to go !!
Cool videos thanks... Ive got a 1991 YJ currently doing 350 motor swap... body is next good to know I can get a frame and window set new.
+Dave Ringler Good luck Dave !!! Thanks !

I had the wrong rubber seals so a local glass company helped me get it done. Im installing the frame on the Jeep this weekend.
never use ammonia glass cleaner urethane wont stick. always use a "v" bead for good contact. over all good job love seeing diy people
Thanks- sounds like you have a bit more experience than I - lol I will say no leaks a year later
i install everyday lol good to hear no leaks

What about proper bead height? Use old rope sealer in correct size like OEM?
Urethane was what was used from the factory. I just eyeballed the bead size and the rubber trim goes over the edges.
3\8" to 1\2'' V Notched. Stress cracks result from not having correct decking.
Hey man great video! Love to see a fellow jeep enthusiast doing his own repairs. One question though, what year and make is your rig? Could you put a link to the adhesive and primer?
I noticed the outer gasket is thinner than the original. Is that no big deal or ought I keep looking for a thicker seal that match on both sides?
Where did you get your frame for the tj .vrown ? Or omix or key omix seems to be the heaviest at 25 lbs. But prices go from 600 to 150 for my yj I used omix cause of weight what do you think ?
I get the cheapest and rust proof it :)
Nice video
Thanks
Thanks I enjoyed and learned from the video.
Sounds like Gar Bear chattering during the washing...! :-)
Nice assistant!
yea I have a windshield already in but there is a bad rust spot in frame is it hard to transfer my windshield to a new frame already have a new frame just don't want to mess up
Great help... Bout to do mine this weekend
Thanks Jeff - hope all goes well !!!
+jeff garner How did it turn out ?
Wish you showed the motor swap too.
Thank you, I really appreciate it !!!!
Welcome Àntonio !
Nice work, thanks for showing how to do! Cheers!
Go Preds Randy!
I had my 92 yj glass replaced professionaly and it leaks at the top inside... So disappointing
Did you have any issues with the windshield hinges or that bottom gasket between the firewall and the the frame?
+tom john I replaced the hinges but the runner was i good shape :)
Do you have any videos on removing the windshield frame on the YJ Jeep?
Hell yeah my man thanks so much for these vids! Definitely makes things a little easier. Few questions: How long did you wait for that primer to dry before putting on the glass adhesive? Looping at a few windshields on eBay for m'y 89 yj, are do all of thé replacement windshields have a grern tint ?
Great video! Did you have to use two tubes of adhesive or just one?
Do not use pinch weld primer on the glass, Dow 828 urethane is primer-less for the glass, by doing what he has done you are in jeopardy of having the windshield bond release in a accident.
hes using U428 primer 5504G is what is recommended
What year is you YJ?
Great video
do you know if its plausible to remove a windshield from a jeep yj windshield frame without braking it ???
12Achilleas A good glass guy - maybe but the urethane is really a pain and I have been unsuccessful myself doing that on multiple glass.
12Achilleas Yeah its possible, you gotta make a little hole and then use a metal wire and cut the urethane with it. One hand outside, the other hand inside and you slice with the wire back and forth.
yeah Ive gotten close before I heard crrrraaaacccckkkk hahaha
Great video for us DYI'rs. Curious, I see where it appeared you had two tubes of urethane. Was one tube enough for the windshield?
I actually used a tube and a half may having been able to get by with one but went a little thicker :)
thank you for this information.
welcome James !
$30 for an electric caulk gun!? I need to shop where you shop!! The cheapest Ryobi I found was $59 and it didn't come with a battery or charger.
Yeah maybe they did replace it. OK thanks for the info.

AOK.
I have a 68' M-715 windshield I have to put in, not looking forward to it.
Randy didn't do shit
Nope LOL
