  • A small tumbler I made using scrap and things I found around here. It can be used to polish rocks and other things or also with a ball mill to make aluminum powder for thermite.
    Some explanations:
05 pallet wood for the frame;
44 steel tubes for the axles;
21 flexible tube to cover the axles (this is not really necessary, but I had to use it to increase the diameter of the tube because the steel tube I had available was too thin, and this would make the barrel spin too slowly);
49 bearings (again, I had to increase the diameter of the steel tube with tape because it was the only bearing I had available);
53 metal clamps (I was going to buy 3 pillow blocks but they are very expensive and unnecessary in such a small tumbler);
31 washers to eliminate the gap between the clamp and the frame;
30 DC motor with reduction gear (200RPM);
37 Aluminum profile will be the motor support;
08 The motor shaft is adjusted inside the steel tube using a flexible plastic tube;
41 Adhesive rubber feet applied to the base;
02 A barrel using PVC tube and caps (with steel balls to serve as a ball mill);
42 Old tire inner tube to provide friction with the axles and to seal the inside of the barrel in case of a liquid media (this is obviously not necessary if you are going to use proper rubber barrels);
12 This same tumbler has been working for 5 weeks.

    Ideal speed for tumblers barrel is 35rpm ,if it has more than that it looses efficiency due to centrifugal force.Your motor has 200 rpm but it since you didnt choose dirrect drive it is reduced by size of roller and barrel-they act as gears.
