2K for a Brose motor IF you’re out of warranty. Performance Line Bearing (in the UK) will rebuild the motor if you choose to rebuild. I have a 2019 Turbo Levo with 850 miles on the factory 2.1 Brose, and just beginning to pick up motor noise. My factory warranty was extended to 4 years, so a Brose 2.2 motor may be in my future.
So 90nm must be the most powerful motor available atm. I haven't seen any others rated at that. I was recently lucky enough to get a levo and apart from a 2 minute ride on a giant emtb it's my first experience riding emtb's and I was literally laughing at the power going up steep tracks.
I have owned 3 specialized e bikes at a time for myself and kids for 3 years and I ride mine, 30-50 miles a week average. And I have 3 more friends who have used theirs similarly for those years. One early 2017 had a motor noise- replacement. I wonder what cadence and level these bikes that fail are ridden at. We use all 3 settings. 50% eco 30% trail 20% turbo. cadence 70-100. quit a bit of jumping and rock gardens. I am happy as can be with my bikes. owned mostly carbon and Kenevo versions.
Great info. Specialized normally are number 1-2-3 in the tests. What other engine's at e bicycles are really better. That's just a taste between 3-5 brands worldwide, specially if the price are max 4000 €. Silent Brose, but they can give a hard noise , so often goes away.
I have a Como v2 with the 2.1 motor. The V2 doesn’t come with any lighting and I’d love to hard wire something in. Can you point me to the type of wire/adapter I would need to tap into those 2 aux power jacks? Thanks!
Hi James, I am a bike mechanic in Brazil, I would like to learn more about the maintenance of these ebike engines, would you be able to point me to links or channels that I can learn? thanks for the content.
All the bikes were current year models, I have a ton of miles on a 2019 carbon bike, and its good so far. When you wash them keep the pressure away from the crank area. Use a hair dryer in that area if it gets wet.
When weighing these two motors, wouldn't it be fair to include the additional mounting hardware needed for the 2.1? Not that the hardware would be 900g, but still...
I have a question maybe someone could help me, are motors 1.2 -> 1.3 compatible in fitting into bike I would like to upgrade my levo fsr comp 6fattie nb with motor 1.3? Is it worth it? Please reply, anyone who tried this.
I have a 2019 mod T.levo and suddenly it just made Mixmaster kitchen blender noises and wouldn't Go ofcourse so I sent it in the store had it for months then I got it back with a smaller motor i had to put a thick shim between the frame and the chain guide to be able to use the chain guard,, anyways I think it messed with the gearing the chainring is no longer in optimal center in line with the cassette ,, maybe it's bigger Yes it's wider atleast yes sorry so when I put on the shim it got pushed outwards,,,same same anyways nothing happened to it exempt the battery chrashed and the bike wouldn't turn on so they had the bike for many weeks then I got it back with another battery.. now I'm getting a New roval backwheel because somehow the tube inside the nav which the trubolt goes through have broken and it's impossible to just by that tube,a new nav to build the wheel back on it's needed so I just claimed new on the guarantee because I gave them the bike and they pretended to fix it and charged me for it.put They only washed the parts put on a new boss with ONLY 3pawls which fucks with the motor and the shuttle after just touching the pedals The motor spins around and stop's when The engagement comes (resistance) I'm still using it but I'm really annoyed about the store I bought it in always when they fix something they break something or switch something that isn't broken and the bike get worse...so I'm trying hard to learn to fix everything myself anyways if if they could fit another motor in the same frame with the same mounting points it will work when you do it to just not put the Crank arm's on the wrong side after changing like my store did ,,on a normal Crank that's not possible but it is on brose
Which Como model do you have and what motor? What are the problems? I was strongly considering a Como 4.0 or a 5.0. Any additional information would be helpful. I am sorry for your situation hopefully Specialized will stand behind the bike!
@@carlstoutamire9525 Specialized never returned my phone calls and replied to my emails with a boiler plate reply 5 times with 5 different complaint numbers. Specialized did provide the new motor to my bike shop 3 times! My bike shop agreed with me that I got a lemon and they were not pleased with Specialized support on many of their problems. The only way I got my money back was when I mentioned my Attorney! The bike store gave me my money back not specialized… I now ride a Trek Allant and love it! Hi anyone can help, I want just to start with the E-MTB and thinking to go for the basic Specialized Levo HT 2020 that used the 1.2e motor. I think that this motor has only 50nm will be sufficient for a quite heavy biker??
the thing holding me back from getting an ebike is long term serviceability, i dont trust that manufacturers will provide parts batteries etc in 10-20 years time, these are basically disposable bikes
That is certainly a challenge. My hope is while brands like Bosch claim continued support for at least 7years that the major brands, I.e. Bosch, Brose, Shimano all get picked up by aftermarket brands for support in the 10+ year range.
You have a good point. In the UK I’m reliant on third party companies that take up the slack. My Yamaha PW SE motor has failed after 2500 miles and no warranty. Even sourcing a replacement is very difficult, however there are a few companies that rebuild them thankfully, otherwise I’d be stuck.
After much research after a exhilarating bike ride on a Specialized Como 4.0 which I was ready to purchase. I do think you have made a correct assessment on the situation. Do not get caught up in the hype these bikes are expensive and disposable!!!
Well I guess I’ll find out! I put the comment up and didn’t get a response so I went out and bought a levo comp yesterday. I went out riding and really enjoy the bike but as you know if you ride it is impossible to keep a mountain bike dry or clean. It’s also impossible to clean it without water. I’m not dumb enough to use a pressure washer on the bike but a soft, quick rinse with the hose is impossible to avoid. I’ll try to repost if I have problems or not. The thought of the bike having multiple failures is already giving me buyers remorse.
Andrew Dale with only 70 miles on the bike and only 20 miles off-road the bike shut off 1/4 mile into today’s ride. It’s currently at the shop. The display is totally unresponsive and off. I absolutely love the bike but I have to admit I’m really disappointed right now. My epic ride cancelled and my day traveling back and forth to the bike store. ==== to follow up the control/brain is bad and a new one is on the way. Covered of course by the warranty. It should be here within the week. So far one week of riding and one week waiting for repairs since I bought the bike. Let’s hope for smooth sailing after this.
Andrew Dale after getting my warranty repairs on my Levo comp I have since put on over 400 miles and the bike is operating perfectly. I did find out though that while the motor housing is waterproof the on/off switch is not. The 700 watt battery does not come out of the bike without hitting the ground first unless the bike is in a stand or flipped upside down. The problem is that even if the bike appears totally dry water can collect along the cabling behind the rear shock as well as around the motor housing that you can’t see. If you flip the bike upside down to remove the battery that water tracks the wiring directly into the top tube to the on/off switch and kills the bike. The brains of the bike/on/off switch should be waterproof and the cables behind the rear shock should have water stops. The good news is there’s a simple solution, don’t flip the bike upside down. Still a great bike and worth the trouble but a little bit of engineering and these problems and warranty claims would go away. I will say my local bike store saved the day. I am glad I had a specialized dealer nearby with excellent customer service.
Great review - would you go for a 2018 s-works levo that has had alot of miles, with 1.3-motor (newish motor) or a 2020 alu levo with 2.1-motor? S-works maybe 500$ more.

The 1.3s in my turbo Vado 5.0 went out after two months and my bike shop replaced it with what I'm guessing is a 1.3 because now the speed is gone and it drags at 18 MPH.
