- My first video to try and help with installing a 2009 clutch basket into the 2014+ YFZ450R’s. Read your manuals for your bikes torque specs. You could cause more damage to your bike if you don’t install the clutch basket correctly. If you have not done any kind of mechanical work I do recommend you taking your bike to a professional.
Great info here, especially on lining up that oil pump gear!
thanks i would have broke my oil pump gear had i not seen this. one good tip is you don’t need a clutch holding tool if you leave the plates in the basket while you tighten and loosen the inner hub nut.
Thank you! Exactly what I needed!
Super video! It cut off towards the end. I would’ve liked seeing it completed and tested.
Also, do you soak the new fibers in oil? Or is that something optional?
Why did yamaha change the clutch basket if the 2009 basket is fine
Great video! Question... so, you get rid of the springs? Does the new basket has springs in the back behind the metal plate? Thx
The new basket has rubber bushings behind that plate instead of springs.
Also heard people doing it and after when they put it clutch has no feel you know the problem
Hi, can you send a link to where you bought the parts?
I thought that these were the same as the oem one (springs in the back) instead of a cushioned one
Just a question but don’t you have to tack weld something so it doesn’t back out? I’ve been reading a lot about this as ima do it myself so I’m just seeing everything i should/need to do. I got the same kit. Btw whats the part number fr the gasket? THANKS.
They say if you go with a Hinson replacement then they recommend tack welding the rivets in place. But not if you do the upgrade I did in this video.

@@io4067 awesome. Thanks for the reply!
I did this just how you said and now I need the bike vibrate more in neutral and when I pull the clutch in it stops vibrating and I hear a subtle noise coming from the left side by the shifter when in neutral if the clutch is not pulled in any suggestions?
Did you even figure out the issue? I got the similar problem
By the way, this is a direct swap correct? You don’t need to take anything off of the old clutch basket ?
Correct. 09 OEM basket replacement comes complete ready to swap.
Sorry for all the questions 😂 but did u have to loosen up the clutch thats on the handle bar before starting?
As long as it’s adjusted correctly before you start then no you don’t have to.
@@io4067 what do u mean?
No you don’t need to move it.
Hey do you by chance know why my clutch might not be working? It’s like I just don’t have a clutch but everything’s in
If I was you, I’d take the cover back off and look inside to see if anything is missing or stuck..
If your bike is fairly new like around 30 hours with big 3 should I get one I’m like not trying to waste money but not sure 😅
YESS ASAP
Size on bolt and did you drain oil?!??! Going to attempt to do today want to get the size
On the clutch hub it’s 30mm. Yes I drained the oil. And topped it off after I was done. It is very important to get the gears to line up and the clutch basket to engage those gears properly. If it does not you will break the oil pump teeth.
Hey man at 4:52 how did you bend that tab? Mines being kind of a pain to get off
I used a chisel and a hammer. Light hammering, don’t go to crazy on it. Should bend out of the way easy.
I did everything just like you show and have zero feel on my clutch lever now.
Not sure what you mean by that. With the cover removed you should be able to pull on the lever and see the clutch plate and springs actuate.
@@io4067 At first there was zero happening. Then we took it all apart and redid it all. Now the lever sis super stiff and took off when I clicked into first. What way does the beveled ring go against the basket?
Hooligan General. Did you figure it out?
@@brianlefebvre5020 waiting on more lock washers and I’ll still. I’ll never order from partzilla again!
Oil. Not I’ll
What you pay and where you order.. mine 2017 450r and I think I should get mine done
I honestly don’t remember what I paid. I bought everything off of Motorsport.com except the basket. That I bought at my local motorcycle dealer since hey had it in stock.
What did you torque the clutch cover bolts to along with the 3 bolts for the pressure plate ?
At what time stamp in the video?
Excellent video! So the 2018 clutches, clutch boss, and pressure plate all work in the 2009 clutch basket? I am unsure if I need to buy 09 clutches, clutch boss, and pressure plate. I am getting ready to order parts to complete this swap on a 21 se I just picked up. Need to get rid of the grenade before it detonates
I would do some research for the 21. I think those came with good clutch baskets. But yes for my 2018 all that was changed where the parts at the beginning of the video.
Any information on 2020’s needing this upgrade?
@@mosizlackm7522 The 2020 has the same three rivet clutch basket. Over time the retainer plate on the back cracks where the damper springs are retained. It is best to swap the clutch basket to the older style basket that uses the rubber cushions. I swaped to the factory 09 basket and did the rest using Hinson clutch parts.
So at 4:04 when you take the black ring off along with the other one you put those back on right?
Yes put those back in, in the same direction they came out
@@io4067 okay thank you! Last question, at 3:03 do you put those black things back in also?
@@lixszdil2301 yes. Put everything back the way you found it except for the new parts being replaced.
@@io4067 okay
Do you have part number list?
Yeah its called pause the video and write them down 😆
Would I need to do this for a 23?
Yes
Did you reuse the gasket?
No
THE CENTER ADJUSTS TO THE BASKET WHEN I TIGHTEN THE CENTER NUT. BECAUSE IT CAN BE?
Sorry I don’t understand the question. Nothing should be forced down by tightening bolts except for the springs.
@@io4067 I changed my clutch for the 8 bolt one. But me, don't replace the thrust washer, leave the original. now the inside rotates with the clutch basket when i clutch. I think that is the problem I have
@@io4067 I am using the google translator, I am from Argentina, maybe it is not understood
Ok. I do speak Spanish.
At the beginning of the video I show the 3 parts. Make sure you replace the washer and lock washer for it to work properly.
En el principio del video muestro las 3 partes del modelo 2009 que se tienen que cambiar. Asegúrate que esas tres partes reemplacen las partes viejas.
@@io4067 I already solved it thanks. I opted to take 0.5mm of material out of the basket and it works fine now. The new one was a bit taller, which made the basket press against the inside. And just in case I also changed the thrust washer
Lay the bike on its side and turn the gas off you won't have to replace the oil.
Is the gear timed?
No it is not.
I was wondering why I couldn't find a clutch pack for under $1000 now I know it's because everyone is sucking them up for their newer bikes. What a fucking shame Yamaha.
