  • On 23 March 1955 Elvis auditioned on Arthur Godfrey’s Talent Scouts. Sadly it didn't go well for Elvis.
It was a New York based TV show where the audience chose the winner
with an applause meter. This was a very prestigious talent show and kick-started many careers, including Pat Boone and Patsy Cline.
Bob Neal was still Elvis's manager at this time but Col Parker agreed to pay for Elvis’s trip to New York. This is when the Colonel took control and from here on in - the Colonel was driving Elvis’s career.

I didn't know either. But I did jump out of a plane piloted by Arthur Godfrey. He was a Brigadier General (AF Reserve) and visited Pease AFB NH, in 1970, he was invited to pilot a HC-130, one of six assigned to the 54th ARRS MAC, for delivering Pararescuemen to the field or water. I had a feeling it was Arthur Godfrey at the preflight briefing and confirmed on my headset after we got in the air. I asked the General if he was the Arthur Godfrey of TV and he said, "one and the same" in his gravel voice. He asked who he was speaking to and I introduced myself as Airman 1stClass Arthur Dorrough USAF Pararescue. He said in all his years of piloting he had never had anyone jump from his plane. Shortly after, my teammate and I jumped out at Framingham.
