I see Nuriko as bi and a trans woman or transfemme nonbinary. They do have an origin story as to why they began dressing as a woman, but a lot of old LGBT stories do that. Just because there is an origin story on it doesn't mean that's the only reason they were doing that. Especially since when Nuriko is reborn, they are reborn as a girl.

Currently watching the whole series for the 3rd time and this time Nuriko has really stood out. I believe that Nuriko is a "bi" and not just confused from his sister's death. I cried a river over his death. It's still my number 1 anime after more than 20 years.

My wife re-watches this series every couple of years. It's been her favorite anime forever.

I agree with you. After rewatching and analyzing his character again, he seems to be just bisexual. He wants to "change himself" for someone else because he thinks his loved ones would be happy that way. :')
He needs a sense of self and someone who would love him as just himself.

@@musingsbydaenen The anime needs to be more known. It seems that it is still popular in Japan, especially since a new oneshot has been released there using the OG cast.

This comment has been edited. What I wrote here before is different to the text below since I changed my mind after analyzing his character again and reading his light novel, Yukiyashi Den.
    After rewatching and analyzing his
character again, he seems to be just bisexual. He wants to "change himself" for someone else because he thinks his loved ones would be happy that way. :')
If I'm not wrong, in his light novel, he fell for Hotohori when he saw him for the first time he saw him in the palace court after going in place of a friend who died.
He just needs a sense of self and someone who would love him as himself. No changes.

I think one of the reason why Nuriko wasn’t an lgbt character at that time because maybe 90s wasn’t paying attention to these stuff. Heck even Haruka and Michiru got censored too. If you noticed nowadays, Haruka and Michiru are now popular and even on FY 30th anniversary polls Nuriko voted until now (despite Genbu manga releases) for one of the most popular FY characters despite the anime and manga finishes quite a long time. This is because people are aware now LGBT. If FY had a remake, I felt like Nuriko will be even more popular and more iconic.

Nuriko was so ahead of his time such a bi icon 🥰

This is literally my favorite anime, Nuriko being my favorite character. Nuriko definitely should be an lgbt Icon. Also when you talked about Sailor Moon you mentioned Fish Eye but showed Zoisite another issue with the American dub, he was made into a woman despite being a gay man in the original

My bad. It's been a while since I've seen Sailor Moon and I probably pulled the wrong clip.

@@musingsbydaenen still an issue with the English dubbing and turning a gay man into a woman lol but it’s even more egregious with Zoisite because that actually turned a gay couple into a hetero one making it even worse
