A group of Japanese scientists have filmed plants communicating with each other in real-time, observing undamaged plants sending defense responses to nearby plants after sensing volatile organic compounds produced by other plants in response to damage or insect attacks. The research, published in Nature Communications, provides visual evidence of plant communication, a phenomenon first observed in 1983.
