The Maria Cristina Falls is the second-highest waterfall in the Philippines, as is found in the suburbs of Iligan City on Mindanao Island. It’s the star landmark of the host city, which is part of the reason why it’s known as ‘the City of Majestic Waterfalls’. There are over 20 waterfalls in the area, but the Maria Cristina Falls is the grandest. The Maria Cristina Falls are often referred to as ‘twin falls’ as the flow of water is separated by a rock at the brink of the fall.
I used to see the Maria Cristina Falls only in post cards and photos. I wonder how beautiful it is and majestic as what they say. As I view the reviews of the tourists that visited the legendary fall, most of them were mesmerized and fascinated on how truly beautiful it is and truly a work of God from above. Just by looking at the photos, I'm feeling and thinking how relaxing it is to witness such wonderful art. It may be a way of relieving stress and find peace and learn to appreciate the wonders of nature. Looking forward to see it myself in the future with my loved ones.
The waterfall is located about 9.3 km southwest of Iligan City and is ringed by Ditucalan, Buru-un and Barangay Maria Cristina. It’s fed by the River Agus and the water falls 98 metres before supplying the Agus VI hydroelectric plant. Besides supplying power it Iligan City, it helps in the production of 70% of Mindanao’s electricity. Some describe it as the ‘now-you-see-it-now-you-don’t falls’, as 90% of the flowing water is often diverted for the generation of hydroelectricity by the powerplants. Still, the grandeur and natural beauty of the cascading torrents is splendid and alluring enough to draw the attention of many visitors.

The majestic Maria Cristina Falls in my beloved hometown Iligan City. The last time I visited there was two years ago Sept. 28, 2018 a day before the city's fiesta. From there we went straight to Timoga Spring Pools (Delmars particularly where the 16-foot spring pool is located) and enjoyed the crystal-clear icy-cool water. What an unforgettable homecoming it was. 😊😊😊❤❤❤

    Maria Cristina Falls
Fall, a body of water that has a fresh smell and relaxing breeze. One of the most aesthetic nature that God has ever gifted us and blessed us with. A sight that lets you forget about the stressful things that you are experiencing and the struggles you are going through, a sweet escape from this thing called life. Its sound, that empties your mind and just let you relax and appreciate the sound of nature, from the sound of the falls, to the sound of the singing birds, plus the scenery that the blue sky and the green trees create. Lots of people prefers to have a city life than the life with nature, in which they are missing out the essence of life.
Fall Grandeur, a characteristic of a fall, that has two sides of the fall flowing from atop. You may think of this as your daily life, one side of the fall being your good days, and the other side of the fall being your bad days. As a human being, we experience different kinds of experiences, be it bad or good, but it all comes down to it, being our experience. Like how the raging falls rages after falling from the highest point to its lowest point, but the journey of the falls doesn’t stop there, it flows through until it reaches the largest body of water, the ocean. Similar to us human, we have our highest and lowest points, but we don’t stop just because we are at the lowest point of our life at the moment, we continue until we succeed into becoming the better and best version of ourselves.
Let the falls be a reminder that no matter what comes into life, keep going, just let your experience flow, and use them as your strength to become a much broader and majestic you.

We went there last year. This was the last fall we visited in Iligan and I’m kinda disappointed. The building beneath the falls ruined the view.

that's maria cristina hydroelectric plant (now named Agus 6 HE Plant) built in 1936. u can have a full view of the waterfalls if u only went top of that building where the real spot or viewing deck is located.
