Although I have never been particularly fascinated by trolley cars, I do appreciate the detail and realism that has been captured in this beautiful layout. Thanks for sharing your visit to this museum.

Wow that is absolutely amazing. I was just there over the summer and somehow did not see this. Is it in the main visitor building? I definitely want to go and check that out.
They say this is the oldest operating Trolley Museum in the country and that section of track they have has been in continuous service since 1900.
It's just amazing to think trolleys have been running up and down that line for a hundred and twenty years!!

Excellent! Do you have any idea what the scratch cars are made of Jerry? There is an excellent trussle bridge in there, but the scratch built thing peaked my curiosity. I typed while watching so if you answered this question already, I apologize.

If I might chip in, I'd guess that most of these cars were built out of wood, cardstock, and cast metal detail parts. Wood and various thicknesses of paper have been the material of choice for trolley scratch building since the '40s at least. Things like seats, headlights, retrievers, wheels, and trolley poles usually had to be purchased through certain suppliers who's specialty was in traction and trolley models. These days, there aren't many of those suppliers left, but Q-Car Company is still going, and widely known to make quality parts for trolley, subway, and passenger car detailing mostly in O, but also HO scale. Another company, LaBelle Woodworking, makes very nice quality wooden craftsman kits of trolley bodies in HO and O scales. You have to supply your own trucks and details. These are a nice alternative for someone who is too daunted to completely scratchbuild a carbody, but who still wants the fun of building a detailed model trolley car. I would not be surprised at all, if many of the non-scratch built cars on this layout started as LaBelle kits. I think Labelle offered kits for a few Connecticut Company cars, but I could be wrong about that. Hope this helps satisfy your curiosity!
