- In this second video on cancer series, Dr B L Thapliyal describes the types, causes, symptoms and treatment of benign tumours. The types of benign tumours include Lipomas, Adenomas, Fibroids (uterus), hemangiomas, meningioma, nevi or moles, (are moles cancer), neuromas etc.
Benign Tumours are not considered cancers because benign tumours are localised and do not spread to other parts. Although benign tumours are not harmful but their location and size can cause problems and produce symptoms. The symptoms of benign tumours include pain, discomfort, fever, night sweats, weight loss, loss of appetite etc.
The diagnosis of benign tumors can be done by physical exam, MRI, CT Scan, sonography, biopsy etc.
The treatment of benign tumours primarily focuses on surgery. However radiation therapy and hormonal therapy are also important.
