hello, i am a want-to-be-gardener and got myself a couple of lavender pots almost a couple of months ago and they have grown a few blooms, which enchant me. I have been watching a few post on lavender and all of you talk about the pruning, which i now know is so important. I live in Hawaii where there hardly are seasons. I live by the ocean where it doesn't rain much. I learned that they love water to be well drained and give them a little every day. When would you suggest i prune them? i really want to help them grow to be good strong plants since i learned they can live many years :-) thank you~

After you prune the lavender, how long does it take the lavender stems to grow back?

If anyone seeing this is particularly good with lavender anouk im only new to gardening in comparison to most , about 5 years but im only 26 , i have a 3 year old bush growing in a container and its beginning to become slightly rootbound , the thing is im growin the bush into a sort of topiary / bonsai hybrid , its styled like a tree with many branches instead of one single stem like a bonsai but the pot is much larger than a bonsai , can i give the roots a trim and set it back in some fresh soil in the same pot or will this damage the plant

I like to prune in the spring. It always seems to give the plant a burst of energy right afterwords. I love my plant but it wasn't pruned properly by the person I purchased it from (online) they just kinda let the thing grow freely so its pretty left heavy with all the growth pretty much falling over to the side but I'm working on it.
I've had the thing for a year and I live on the Gulf Coast. Really hot humid summers and I struggled with this plant at first. I was either not watering it enough or watering it to much. I ended up putting it in a bot with a ton of drainage holes and put it in some light bark like mix (soil less) and between that and the heat it's taken off.
Not trying to brag but the plant is just too full. No amount of pruning can really fix it the plant is just so thick and I'm starting to worry about air circulation.
My advice for anyone with one of these plants is forget about it. Put it in some far off corner of the yard where you will not see it that much (if potted). Don't water it if it's rained this week and if not water it heavily once per week. I've gotten to the point where I can just pick up the pot and tell if it needs watering.
These plants are very sensitive to water tho. They do not suck water out of the soil they essentially suck the humidity out of it and over watering the plant will suffocate it,

Thank you for your comment. I watered my yesterday ALOT and today it looks a bit dead. I just read that its drought tolerant. And to water once a week.

I’m growing lavender indoors (from seed) and they’re definitely growing well, but I have no idea how to care for them! There really aren’t many good videos online of how to care for it...

Same. Mine has gotten taller (still small, but now is like 4-5 inches in height. I am actually not sure when I’m supposed to start pruning it since it’s still new and all….

I planted 6 English lavender plants last summer. They tripled in size. This spring (early May) they look dead. There has been no new leaves coming out, but the stems/ woody branches are still flexible and have some green color inside them. I'm wondering if it can be revived and if so what to do? I live on the west coast of Canada.

I had a hard time with Lavender and Rosemary seeds. I learned that they need to be cold stratified most of the time which only means that they need to be put through a cold period of time mimicking winter and nature. I finally got my Lavender and Rosemary to germinate and now I'm learning to prune. Good luck!

This wasn't very helpful to those of us who live in the Midwest and have really hard winters. Which varieties are good here, how to prune them for maximum blooms, how to overwinter them....

Our Lavender has grown to a bush. We love the blooms but are afraid to prune it. Any tips?? Texas

The best pruning tip is, Just do it! Give it a try, see what happens and learn along the way. If you stay away from the hard wood like she mentions you'll be fine.

@@lacr0014 our neighbor poisoned our plant, it was beautiful blooming great & then it was gone! They have one way tinted windows...creeps. Then we had a Clematis about 5-6 ft 13 blooms once again mysteriously died. Haters. Thanks for the advise though I think it's time to move! 🌟
