This was always my favorite song of Dan’s. I can’t tell you why. It seized me on first listen… I didn’t learn the words until later. He had written many other great songs that I had already heard. Why are so many great musical talents taken from us before their time.
"I used to think of myself as a soldier Holding his own against impossible odds Badly outnumbered and caught in a crossfire Of devils and gods All I ever wanted to be was free All I ever looked for was What was within my eyes to see Oh, but these days are just like you and me . . . . We used to live like there was no tomorrow Tasting our trials a day at a time Crying for justice and laughing at sorrow Such innocent crimes All we ever wanted to be was free All we ever looked for was What was within our sights to see Oh, but these days are just like you and me"
Dan has stated this about this song in an interview by Rik Anthony on May 15,2002 When I was living near Nashville, Tennessee I saw some magazines on the coffee table. One magazine was partly covering another one and I saw the words "These Days" I thought that would be a good name for a song When I uncovered the magazine I saw the words "Clowns: These days are just like you and me"
a tremendous talent...Dan's songs were often about love and nature....God wanted him and took him home early. As he did with Lennon and Harrison and others
Dan wasn't under-appreciated...his fans definitely know the scope of is talent..everyone else is just ignorant...shame on them!!! Am I right?!!!! Impressive jam at the end!! Outstanding by all of these talented musicians!!
Love this. This is around the time when I first saw Dan in concert. Seems like he was the "warm-up" act for another band which might have been The Eagles.
He opened for them quite a bit back then . They would come out and play with him. Frey and Henley referred to him as their little brother often. He had said they were his running mates. At one point after Leadon Left Henley was exploring the idea of having Dan join the Eagles. He thanked him but said no. Frey at that point wanted Walsh and that was the History of Joe joining and Dan not.
I saw him basically the same concert, about a week earlier in Phoenix, my first of many over the years, with band like this and solo. Fabulous show. By (actually long before) this time he was doing his own headlined tours. This particular one he was still basically touring Captured Angel released the year before. Perhaps partly for that sentimental reason, it remains my favorite album of his, though as they say about "picking a favorite child..."

Awesome and thank you So MUCH for sharing. 💕 Can anyone name any of the band members? I think I recognize one but I would like to confirm that with someone that has more knowledge than I. Again, thank you for sharing these awesome songs with amazing sound from this era…which just happens to be my era. ☺️

I agree. This song and the entire Captured Angel album are my all time favorites (even as an old guy).
Oh look, real music!!!
I miss that guy.

I have cherished this soul since 1972
What a great jam band. Best music ever to grow up with in the 70s. Dan could play! He was a musical genius that is very missed....
Holding our own against impossible odds.

I agree 100%! There are so many great songs from Dan that the general population hasn't heard. It's a shame his works aren't better known.
Lin Bell I agree - the jam at the end is so reminiscent of the time - Dickie Betts style ;)
So brilliant and so dearly missed!!!!
I miss this gifted man 🦋
Dan Fogelberg's music and musicianship - just amazing!
Agreed! ❤️❤️❤️
Gone way way to soon!
HIS PERCEPTION & PERSPECTIVE WERE NOT OF THIS WORLD
We used to live like there was no tomorrow.
So under rated I hope he knew before he passed that he had thousands of fans that adored him and his music.
He knows I believe one can just feel it. We are all still captivated and listening. 😘
Boy do I miss him……. ❤

I don't care what Tom says. This is a great song and he ought to be thankful for living in the USA. Ha CC
+Craig Tilton Who is Tom?
Tom is a great friend for many years and we always kid each other about Dan Fogelburg. Really don't know why though.
Ouch but YES freedom is overrated
Thanks Tim

Fools Gold released an album and Dan played/sang with them. Even used some of his songs. Great album!
I truly enjoy Dan's music but feel they knew where he was headed when they put this shirt on him.
Died way too young.
