- My rabbit Bonnie Jumps up gets all excited then runs off and repeats. She also greats us in the morning honking loudly and all excited when she's letting us know she needs feeding like a puppy. She also makes this noise whilst she eats her favourite treats. She is NOT angry or distressed (a few comments have been made regarding this) as you can see she willingly runs to me and is free to run away if she chooses.

Can confirm, very high maintenance. But when they trust you, the love is worth it. Just don't make a bunch of big sudden loud noises around them because they are still prey animals.

You can tell a couple things just from listening to the rabbit:
1) She is VERY happy and VERY content. She loves her surroundings, and is VERY fond of her owner.
2) She is WELL fed and taken cared of. This also appears in the shiny, glossy coat she displays.
Overall, this is a very happy bun-bun, and she loves you very much.

My bunny passed 3 months ago (he was 9). He did a similar noise and I thought there was something wrong with his nose or his breathing. Now I know it just meant he was happy to see me. Thank you so much.
I've been watching videos of rabbit owners and learning that different things he did were actually signs that he was happy. It makes me happy that I was able to bring joy to my baby but it also makes me miss him even more.

@@jus7120 Misinformation! Dewlaps are only on the female rabbits. It's where they pull fur for their nests. They also pull fur from their bellies.

When I was a kid, our pet rabbit would actually herd my younger brother around, and she would lick-groom all of us whenever she got the chance.

Sometimes mine gets to doing this noise so hard her breathing actually gets messed up and she starts sneezing so I gotta let her calm down. I no longer pet her too much because I can't tell if that's good for her long term health or not. But she still gets plenty of love daily.

our first rabbit was adopted because when we wanted to pet it at the store, they put it in my mom's arms and it snuggled up close to her, tucked it's head under her chin and made those sweet little grunting noises. Love at first sight and that rabbit came home with us
If you went to a pet store you didn't adopt, you purchased from a breeder through a middleman.

Heheh. Reminds me, where I'm from there was an ad some years ago where a man asked a kid "What does [animal] say?" and the kid made the noise. When they came to "What does the rabbit say?" there was just a long silence. Buuuuut, as I know as an owner and as we see here, they do make noise. (Don't even remember what the damn ad was for, it was THAT effective. ;P )

Zachary Hoffa Only one of my 6 rabbits that I've had over my life made that noise but it ended up being a sinus infection. She happy hopped like a nut though. Even accidentally smashed heads with her sister when they thought one would go high and the other low like they had been but the last time they both went high. It was so adorable and sad at the same time. I felt bad for them.

Reminds me of my late rabbit, she was surprisingly intelligent for a rabbit and very social. She would often when she was indoors explore and then when she was done scouting and was tired she would go up to us and demand pets. She knew I’m very ticklish so she would almost always jump beside me and burrow into my sides and get a reaction out of me, then she would just sit and ask for pets. :)
everyone always says that bunnies do not make any noise, but my bunny has always growled and grunted and talked my ears full. At the vet she was louder than the dogs or the cats. no idea why this myth holds true
M. Mihalache yeah they actually teach us as kids that there are animals that don't make any noise but they do, like turtles and tortoises, I was told they make no sound, turns out they hiss and stuff like other reptiles.

Thanks I wasn't sure if my rabbit was happy or sad when I am chasing him around. I saw that oinking was happy and grunting is sad but there are so few videos around I didn't know what oinking sounded like.

I had a rabbit this tame once, his name was Beauregard, he used to chase my german shepherds, and harass the cats.
He passed away 2 years ago after escaping his new outdoor play area (which i was 100% sure i had rabbit proofed, but i had not counted on his intelligence in figuring out how to disengage the sliding bolt latch)
My new rabbits, which i rescued two months ago (9 of them, 3 males, 6 females) are all quite friendly, but today one of the males bit me when i tried to check one of the females for pregnancy!

Our late albino rabbit Alecz used to do this when we get back home after being at work or school all morning. 😭 He'd make this excited honking/breathing noise while circling around our legs, doing figure eights around each leg as we try to slowly take a step into our house.. I miss him everyday, almost one year since he left us now this 29th October 2020.. He was like sunshine to us. 💛🐇

I never knew what these sounds were! My rabbit passed away a few months ago, he was special needs and wheelchair bound so I was taking care of him round the clock, we were always together. When he made these noises I thought he was having nasal problems, I even sent a video of it to my vet friend like what’s wrong??? It really cheers me up knowing he was making happy honks :’)
I've got two bonded, sibling, female house bunnies aged 3 years. They're fascinating to watch interacting with each other. They're both very loving to us humans. They seem content and happy living as part of our family. However, people watching videos such as this who think "how cute, I want a house bunny", should take heed of people's comments about them being high maintenance because they truly, truly are! I can't stress that enough. They impact your daily life far more than a dog or cat. When you go on holiday, they have to be left with people that have a sound knowledge of rabbits and are experienced in caring for them (particularly bonded bunnies and house bunnies). Oh, and hell hath no fury quite like a bunny you've inadvertently brassed off ... and they could win gold medals in any sulking competition. They're very complicated animals. As much as I love and adore them, they're so restrictive to your life, that I won't be taking on any others after these little ladies pop their furry clogs!
My bunnies make loads of sounds but the best one of all is the purring type sound they make when they're getting fussed and loving it! They make the honking noise when I'm preparing their herb salad on an evening - it's lovely to hear them communicating happiness.

Unfortunately not all bunnies are as affectionate. Kind of like cats. Some cats and bunnies just remain aloof overall... but I guess it does depend on the bonding and time spent together.
It is not usual for bunnies to be so affectionate unless there is good bonding and enough time spent doing so. That is all. I have seen it, but some bunnies can remain aloof

Haven’t had house rabbits for a decade. I miss hearing those happy honks. Occasionally somebunny could even be heard clucking like a chicken. So special. Buns are the best.

Henry Herbert that’s what I was going to say, because mine used to stay in an large x-pen but it had a lot of big things in it so they couldn’t move around a lot so I got rid of the pen and spread things out and now that have the whole room and their behavior got way better
Henry Herbert I do but only at night because she chews everything she’s not meant to. Also uses stairs and can hop onto the bed so it’s hard to keep an eye on her XD she’s out minimum 6 hours a day free roam and in the morning/before bed she’s confined to our big bedroom for 1.5hours minimum. Sometimes you just get evil pets I guess!!
My late pony was evil and attacked me every day basically but she had moments of non murder too! That’s why I’ve said my demon rabbit is my pony incarnate
