    I think the issue for me is she went too mainstream and lost the connection with her audience. Young people aren’t watching the kind of things she’s doing now. People liked her for her personality and not necessarily for her acting (which I think is a bit over the top). It sort of reminds me of what Troye Sivan did but I think lately he’s gone back and reconnected with his audience on tiktok. I don’t see Liza on social anymore only super professional settings and because she started on social it’s a weird disconnect. Just my 2 cents.

      I came to the conclusion that , if you want to be famous , you either need to play a character (openly) , or to be your unapologetic self . When you put yourself out there , as a person belonging to categories such as "politically correct" ; "I dont want to offend anyone" and/or "role model" , that's a recipe for disaster , you can say bye-bye to your emotional and mental stability/health/peace. When you are a Hollywood star you have a whole team behind you to help you out with guidance , damage control etc..But being internet famous means you're alone , even when you have $ , and maybe someone else around you that knows something about the business , its not good enough, to survive in the spotlight, and/or stay in it.

    We have to understand that being a youtuber is not a forever job. People grow up even the content creator and their priorities and likes change throughout the years. Its the entertainment industry and the same thing will happen to the next person that will rise.

    • @uglyraff9313
      @uglyraff9313 3 years ago +35

      For some people you're right, but pewdipie has had a youtube forever career, only youtube and seen success. The difference is, over the years as he's gotten older, his content has changed to fit an audience of his age group etc. Liza stuck with the same video format from day 1, which after time gets repetitive and boring. Noone wants to watch a new video, that is the exact same as the thosands prior. Her younger audience that grew up watching her, out grew her, and new young generation have new content to consume.

      I think RUclipsrs are changing the game! These huge RUclips creators are taking over!!! People like Mr. Beast, Logan Paul etc way too many to name, are doing everything right. Streaming platforms have basically replaced regular TV. Netflix, Hulu, HBO, Disney+, Paramount and many others! PLUS twitch and RUclips! Twitch and RUclips ARE HUGE. I think we are at point where RUclips can be a forever job. As you get older and your priorities, likes, interest, and thoughts change you can also slowly change the content you’re creating to post. People build a relationship with RUclipsrs through a screen without ever meeting them, just like TV. Mr. Beast subscribers are gonna watch anything that has to do with Mr. Beast. So if he was to want to do something new, like start a podcast he would be one of the BIGGEST podcast in the world. His first episode would be HUGE. Mr. Beast also knows so many things about making content that people want to watch, and continue to watch after and watch each video to the beginning to end without skipping through. There are other RUclipsrs with the same ability, skill to so also. A podcast on RUclips is turning into the TVs version of The Tonight Show! A huge personality like Logan, Mr. Beast having famous people, other RUclipsrs come onto their podcast is the exact same thing as Jimmy Kimmel having Zendaya on the Tonight Show. But it’s actually arguable that a podcast of Mr. Beast having Zendaya on his podcast is gonna be 10 times better! Knowing Mr. Beast he would probably make a podcast where it’s the normal talking, asking questions telling each other crazy stories, discussing things. But Mr. Beast add a spin to the podcast video with Zendaya. Adding a challenge, spinning a wheel and seeing what it lands on. All different types of things they could do on the Podcast. Mr. Beast gets more views a video than a lot of tv shows get in weeks! People also feel more connected to Mr. Beast and hundreds of thousands of other content creators! RUclips and Twitch can do the same thing as TV and other streaming apps but do it better! RUclips can be a forever job for a lot of people. Not every creator will be able to do so but there will be an absurd amount of creators that will be able to make it a forever type of job.

      A lot of times it's that they're rich for the first time in their lives and want to take the time to spend and enjoy their money. Not really mental health.

    • @TwoBs
      @TwoBs 3 years ago +53

      @@lisettes.9598 Honestly, with the type of money some of these creators have made, I’d tap out completely, invest, and enjoy the rest. Just keeping it real lol, and I could never shame someone for doing the same. It’s like, hey, you made it. You’re set and your children (if you have them) are set. You’re good - you do you and be happy … which is the ultimate goal.
      I’d hate to feel like I _had_ to do something to appease others as a content creator. Yes, a lot of people started at the bottom and got to where they are because of those viewers and supporters, but in the end … no one owes anyone anything in life. They only owe it to themselves to do what makes them happy. If getting a lot of views and making enough money to keep their future in a positive financial-wise is their goal, not my place to judge them if they dip out. Same for mental health - this shit takes a toll on anyone.
      If Liza has more fun doing more professional career-orientated jobs, then good for her. If she doesn’t want to do YT anymore, then good for her. She knows YT isn’t forever. It’s too volatile and unpredictable, and when the opportunity came for her to step out and make a more solid career choice in a professional setting … she took it. She’d be crazy not to.

I'm Canadian, so I don't really know much about if people in America but outside of NYC actually care or not. I figured that from what I saw, no one younger than a millennial bothered to care about it. It's more about the new years parties now at least imo.
      Also I'm pretty sure from what I know that not many people outside of America tune in for the ball drop since even though for you guys it's THE symbolization, it's not something of significance to many people, though it seems nice.
      I also know of Ryan Seacrest. I just wrote it the way you spelt it as a joke since you wrote "Bryan" lol. Also I'm pretty sure people outside of America still watch Ryan Seacrest. I love the perspective of Colin and Samir going into these videos while also being creators on the rise - as mentioned during the MET Gala part of the show, you can tell they have that desire of wanting to succeed as much as the creators they create content on - which I really relate to. I'm curious if they ever feel overwhelmed by this (ie: Will I ever get to go to these events and/or reach this level of success that a 25 yo has accomplished?).

    Would be very interesting a video exploring the older creators that have already done this cycle way back when. Like charlieissocoollike/tyler oakley/grace helbig. The similarities in these journeys of brand + personality resulting in a change in content, a distance from youtube. Why there are these patterns? How newer creators are navigating this space and what can be learned from older RUclipsrs that have "been there, done that". Anyways super interesting video as always!

    She outgrew RUclips. I think a lot of RUclipsrs don't grow at all and they get stuck. Meanwhile their fanbase grows up, becomes adults and moves forward with life. As a photographer and web designer, who RUclipsrs occasionally, I sympathize.
    I also think David's situation played a HUGE part of it.
    When I think of Vloggers - I think of the Truman Show. At some point you realize you no longer want to be that person - who is the show. You no longer want everyone to have an opinion about who you are, what you wear, what you do. You just want to be. But you can't stop "being". It's hard thing growing up in the social digital age.

I am happy that this video was made because a lot of fans didn't understand why Liza basically climbed the ladder of fame the way she did. I think a lot of the fans just couldn't disconnect I mean I understand to some extent but as fans we don't own celebrities and can't expect them to remain stagnant. Creators have increasingly distanced themselves from their content, and I think it's really smart. Realistically, creating shows and formats are the only opportunity for growth, because no one can replicate your personality or your style of video. I know a lot of creators struggle with onloading an editor, because they feel their voice shines through their edit. A lot of those creators end up stretching themselves too thin. It's a difficult balance, one that RUclipsrs are uniquely suited to deal with

If you're interested in seeing how digital nomads build their businesses and are upcoming creators, you should check out some of my videos! and let me know what you think :)

    I used to be one o Liza's biggest fans when I saw her going places other than youtube I was so over the moon excited for her but as she transitioned to this third party era like you said I just felt more and more disconnected from her and her content, today I'm not even subscribed to her channel I just don't find her content relatable anymore and I feel like that's ok people change it's a shame I do miss the old Liza but I wish her the best and I'm happy for her no matter what

    There is no way to always stay on top, no matter what you do and how successful you are. That's just how life is, always been and always will be.

    wow that definition of her as kind of a mixture between traits of Will Smith, Kristin Wiig, Jenna Marbles and Emma Chamberlain is actually really spot on

    I've been following you guys since you were on one of Casey's videos awhile back and I've stuck around because you both work well with each other. I think this format you have of talking about and analyzing content creators is a good niche because as long as there is YT, there will always be content creators to talk about. You mentioned this in an earlier video and it's 100% true. I love your content and keep it up! BTW, is Jellysmack even useful to really small channels with just a couple hundred subs? I have a biking channel that I'm trying to grow but I kinda feel like I'm way too small right now for something like that.

    I think RUclips was a stage in her career. I know, though it breaks my heart, my fav YT'ers are going to graduate to better things. All I hope is that they maintain their happiness and mental health, be who they are and make the moves that continue to add unto them. On IMDB she's got some stuff going and been going strong since about 2016. I wish her all the best!

    The "You'll tune in and watch her do anything" comment at the beginning made me think of another RUclipsr - Simone Giertz. She's very funny and relatable, it would be interesting to see you guys do a video on her.

    Great work on this! It's interesting to look back at these eras of youtube. You two are defining a future for this era, but what else is in the mix? What is youtube now?
