The Rigi in the heart of Switzerland, is not for nothing a very popular destination for hikers and nature lovers. The diverse vegetation, many butterfly species, varied hiking trails and last but not least the magnificent view, make a trip there an unforgettable experience.

The Rigi is always a rewarding destination for hikers. Countless interesting hiking trails lead up to the mountain massif.
We decide to start the hike in Weggis and walk via Rigi-Kaltbad to the viewing platform Känzeli. Between the starting point and the end point of the hike there is a distance of about 7.5 kilometers and a difference in altitude of about 1000 meters.
From Weggis, the route then continues slowly but steadily uphill along mostly beautiful hiking trails. The first stage leads over forest and meadow passages. In between, one or the other stream bridge is crossed and sometimes stair climbing is required.
By the way, the famous writer Mark Twain, creator of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn, already climbed the mountain in the heart of Switzerland on this path.
Again and again we experience spring in all its splendor. Flowering meadows on which butterflies cavort make the heart of the nature lover beat faster. At many places you have a wonderful view of Lake Lucerne and the surrounding mountains.
At a certain point it becomes steeper and the rock becomes more present in the landscape. In this part of the path you come to the chapel Heiligchrüz. Unfortunately, it is closed during our visit.
After another stretch of path through beautiful nature, we come to an intermediate destination: the impressive, mystical-looking rock gate.
Afterwards we enjoy the view again and soon the hiking trail crosses the Speuzibach.
The last section to Rigi-Kaltbad unfortunately offers no shady passages and it gets steeper. With a cloudless sky, you feel this all the more.
Once there, the trail goes practically straight ahead. Again we see flowers, different kinds of butterflies and other insects. After a quarter of an hour we reach our destination, the viewing platform, which offers a breathtaking 360° view.
