Lyrics -
Mother you give good advice
Always you mean well
Now I need it more than ever
I'm inside this cell
I'm behind a prison wall
The bed's so hard and much too small
There's no pyjamas here at all
Mother, what'll I do now?
They told me they would treat me swell
Tucked inside my little cell
But up to now it's been like hell!
Mother, what'll I do now?
We're parted from each other and that's too bad
You're my favourite mother, the best I ever had
Tonight I've got a date you see
But they won't let me have a key
And the Warders won't sit up for me
Oh! Mother, what'll I do now?
It's hard to pass the time away
I'm in a dangerous mood I say
I've smoked two cigarettes today
Mother, what'll I do now?
First I stand and then I sit
Then I sit and stand a bit
But I can't stand much more of it
Oh! Mother, what'll I do now?
We're parted from each other and that's too bad
You're my favourite mother, the best I ever had
I got such an awful shock
I asked the time cos there's no clock
And the Warder said, Six months, old cock!
Oh! Mother, what'll I do now?
I ordered lunch from soup to sweet
But they forgot the fish and meat
And since the soup there's nowt to eat
Oh Mother, what'll I do now?
I've had such a tummy ache
All night long I've been awake
Some castor oil they made me take
Oh! Mother, what'll I do now?
We're parted from each other and that's too bad
You're my favourite mother, the best I ever had
Ive played Peter fly away Paul
Ive played tiddly winks and all
Ive written rude words upon the wall
Oh! Mother, what'll I do now?
I've taken to the habit of watching and listening to a George Formby song at least once a week. Always lifts my spirits!
Happy Birthday 🎉🥳 George Formby 🎉❤
If me mother was ere you wouldn't talk to me like that.... Brilliant 🇬🇧❤️
I love how in George's movies the movie literally just pauses and he going into performance mode, including breaking the 4th wall with the camera wink! His films never took themselves seriously, just good old fashioned entertainment!
Homes under the hammer brought me here...seriously lol
"First I stand, then I sit, then I stand and sit a bit but I can't take any more of it. Mother what'll I do now" classic
Cheri Cheri Great line all right. Funny AND skilful. Love the way it's filmed in close up all the way. You just cannot beat George Formby
just great god bless our george just great never be another 1 like him
Charming man. I love the smile on his face while he's playing. Wish I could find a way to watch some of his movies.
Great song, one of my favourites. Can't wait to get my own banjo uke ^^
I'm a very dedicated George Formby fan and it's this song in particular that led me to buy a banjolele and try to learn his songs, but (and please don't crucify me for saying this) I can't help but think this clip we're watching here would have been a fantastic end to Hitchcock's film "Psycho."
The line 'I've played Peter Fly away Paul' is incredible it shows his pure genius
Simply brilliant, the great thing about entertainer era George was from, they made you smile ,and at a time when the world was in flames, and they especially George still .makes me smile, and his movies still get me threw shitty days, god bless you oor George.

if mi mother wasnt ere you wouldnt talk to me like that hahahah
I have loved GF for years since a young lad. Frustratingly annoying how easy he makes his playing seem yet knowing, despite not being able to play myself, it look ridiculously easy when I/we all know it's not. Maybe I ought to buy one and give it a go but at my age, not sure I'd be any good. I did learn to play acoustic guitar when I was about 13 so who knows? :)
Love it my dad love this in ww2
Shrek plays the ukulele!
