Just a few clarifications that I clearly missed: I 100% asked my parents permission to stay with them during lockdown (this is their house of course I would *ask* before moving to live with them for a prolonged period of time) and working in their garden was to help alleviate many tasks for them to make their lives easier as my dad had foot surgery and my mum has a bad back. What I mean by 'simple' living is making things from scratch, not constantly shopping and buying things and participating in hustle culture, slowing down and be grateful for what I have (which I am). When I move in with my boyfriend I will 100% be translating the idea of 'simple' living into our home, somewhere small and basic that meets our needs.
Well said Immy… I’m only very sorry and a wee bit sad that there are comments posted here which make you feel the need to justify your lifestyle choices and what works for you and your family. Perhaps this is the down side to living a public life. I’m so happy for your lifestyle changes Immy… for you and for nobody else. Please know that we love your content, your honesty, and all your fresh inspiration. Knowing that you choose to your live in a manner that is true to your convictions is all that matters.
This is the life we opted for 2 years ago, we decided on a small house, less stuff, smaller bills, more time saved, more money saved, we grow vegetables, have chickens….. so much less stress even though we run our own small business and I work part time.
I thought that was what you meant the whole time - the simple life of doing things the "old fashioned" style! i'm very sorry that people took that the wrong way. I too have been wanting to move out of my city and settle in the country side to participate in more wholesome living. Thank you for this video
Oh my goodness: "To live in alignment with ones own values is the greatest gift. Don't waste it by trying to please others and forgetting to live your life". So beautiful and well said! Thank you Immy for this lovely video
Love you every single one of you! I hope you enjoy todays video, if you don't forget to give it a like as it really supports my channel - and don't forget to subscribe! xx
I retired early (at58) to live a simpler life. I found your channel then, four years ago, because I became very concerned about sustainability. What was I leaving behind for my granddaughter?? My still working friends ask me if I'm bored. Nope too busy - growing food plants, walking, yoga, reading, writing, looking after my granddaughter, volunteering at the local Foodbank, and really savouring my life and counting my many blessings. Thank you for your inspirational work, Immy
I think this is a really important message. In the western world success is mostly defined by income, fame and power and we tend to forget that that's not everybodys interest. Recently one of my professors asked us, what our dreams are and it made me think. For most of my life I dreamed of being influential in one way or another. But after a year of staying at home for the most part and not being able to just go forward with tasks like a clockwork, this question made me think. What are my dreams and goals? What would my dreams and goals look like, if I wouldn't compare myself to all the people traveling the world, partying, spending loads of money, seemingly having perfect jobs and relationships? Do I have dreams about the things I actually like or do I have dreams about the things that are socially accepted as dreams? I'm not quite sure. But at least it made me think about it and hopefully I'll be able to grow from there.
As an older person, I have to tell you that you are blessed beyond measure to be able to live your simple life. It is beautiful where you are and I am glad that you appreciate the life that your parents have given you. Secondly, I didn't have much hope for the generations behind me until I began to watch youtube. The news, especially about the younger generation, is distressing at times. But I watch you and Gittemary and the Minimalists and it makes my heart lighter. There is hope for humans and we still have the capacity to sustain and care for life around us and to appreciate what we have been given. You are lovely.
A verse in the Bible that I really love which you reminded me of is "also aspire to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business, and to work with your own hands". There's something so fulfilling about each of these. It's balm for the soul.
Oh boy.. I started crying watching this video - I think we have been on the same journey during this pandemic. In the last year, I've discovered what I truly want in life. I don't want to be climbing the career ladder, I don't want to see an x amount of countries, I don't want to have a huge house, a car, many things. I just want to have a home and a family, whatever a home and a family looks like in the stage of life I'm living. It's so simple yet so hard to achieve and to justify in front of others. Maybe this is what got me so emotional ... it seems hard to justify living a simple life towards simple goals if you could do anything and everything anywhere in the world. Good luck in finding a home with your boyfriend that meets your needs and is in alignment with your values. Thank you for this video and for the reminder that every way of wanting to live your life is ok.
In a RUclips world of full of jump-cuts and interminable talking, it is wonderful to experience the tranquil stillness of just watching you making pizzas. It calms the mind; it lets one focus fully on what is happening. I hope to see more of this cinematic style going forward. :)
Fantastic comment Henry… I completely agree with you. Immy’s videos have a beautiful blend of music, scenery, description/narrative, and “tranquil stillness” (that last one is a good one!). I enjoyed reading your comment, thanks for sharing your thoughts made into words.

Living in the country is so much more mentally sustainable and fulfilling to me than living in the city. The city is a lot more confusing and fast-paced and it makes me feel like I need to be doing something and being "productive" at all times. It's funny when I talk to colleagues from work about the time it takes me commute there because, to them having a 30min commute is a lot, but to me, taking 1 hour by public transport is a godsend and 100% doable. I would much rather take that long to get to work but come back to peace and quite at the end of the day, than to live close to work but have to put up with the noise of traffic. Loved the video as always ❤️
Hey Eduarda… I’m with you on this one all the way!! I find the city can be fun to visit for a brief time… but the amount of constant stimuli quickly overwhelms me and leaves me wanting to return to my simple life in the wilderness of 🇨🇦. I love your term “mentally sustainable”. Great comment today, I loved reading it. Hope you’re having a relaxing Sunday evening 😃
@@marycharlebois6627 hello again Mary! I'm happy to see that I'm not only one prefering the "boring" slow living of the country ☺️ Have you been able to find the toothbrushes that we spoke about a while ago?
@@eduardacruz7756 There is nothing boring about living in the country. On the contrary, I find the city to be boring. Amazing that you’ve been able to support yourself financially doing what you love. I've been waking up at 5am the past couple weeks and I'm loving it so much!! I walked up the hill near my house this morning and watched the sunrise :) the glow is so magical.
I don't know why exactly, but I found the parts of you kneading the dough in that familiar apron a comforting image. There is so much going on in the world but there you are, making dough, slowing down.
I do so get you! I used to be a retail manager, raising 2 kids on my own. So you can imagine the stress….. then fate struck and I got diagnosed with an auto immune condition. My whole life grinded to a halt. It forced me to stop working and live a very simple life. But tbh I have never been happier, I have a loving husband now, live in the countryside far away from stress and social pressure. Now I have the guts to say no to events or gatherings. Simple life is the best life!
No permission needed Immy… live that simple life… (imho) a simple life allows us to connect with the things that make us happy and bring us true contentment. Pearls lie not on the seashore… if one desires a pearl one must dive for it. Could it be that you are discovering the pearls in your life Immy? (Sorry… I know this is not the best ethical Vegan example, but I think you know what I mean, eh?) Hello to Immy’s Mom, love the drone footage, the early morning, the garden, the book update (excited for new IBC post)… and all that you share with us. I feel privileged to soak up your content and to share in this simple lifestyle with you and this community. As always, thank-you so much 🌿💜💦
This is beautiful... thank you. I've been following your channel for probably a few years now. It's wonderful to see how you've transitioned... what comes to mind most is your gentleness and compassion. Thanks for making these videos. I genuinely enjoy them.
You and your boyfriend might enjoy living somewhere like the Peak District or the howgill fells- small towns nearby so not completely isolated but also the hills on your doorstep x
Thank you for this... Honestly, getting out of the pandemic is worrying me more then getting into it over a year ago... Simply because I have been living a simple life for years now and the answer to "what's up" is pretty much always "not much". Which I personally am fine with but can come across as boring... Over the last year, this question very rarely was asked and if so, the obvious answer "not much" was suddenly more acceptable... Anyway all this to say that I did realise that this simple life I was living, I will continue living, but I am choosing not to feel guilty or boring for it. Thank you ✨🙏🧡
I have noticed that several people have commented that their simple life is often considered to be boring by others. I think just the opposite… to me, living a simple life is enriching as it allows us to focus our heart and our mind on what matters most, therefore we can dedicate time and energy to what is important and brings us joy. Nothing boring about that 😃. Being happy and feeling satisfied with the outcome of the day is never something we should feel guilty for (imho). As for the pandemic, I think we’ll be coming out of it a bit more slowly than some anticipate. I enjoyed reading your comment and sharing my thoughts here with you. Thanks for this, and have a great week ahead 🌸🌿🌻
Thank you for this. I've been looking to live a simpler life, but often feel pressure to achieve more/strive for more. It's difficult finding happiness in the modern world and finding a healthy mental space, particularly after having grown up in a city and moved to a smaller town. I grew up as an overachiever and always just wanting to fit in. It's tempting to work harder and be busier because that is what is valued (at least in the USA), but I truly believe that happiness/fulfillment lies more in valuing relationships and time. I'm in process of changing careers from a busier office job to a "lower" service industry position so I can just be around people, work less hard, and value my work more... Living simply is perfectly okay and valuable.
Omg, blending your coffee beans with your nutri-bullet?! Genius! I also use a french press. I have been grinding my beans with a mortar and pestle, but your method must make the grounds much more even! Definitely going to try that! Love you and your content Immy! Beautiful video and message.
So agree with you! I live in London and after this pandemic I've been more keen to move to somewhere to live slower and have time for more important things. I loved your video!
This morning I googled, "is it okay to want to live a simple life." I wasn't completely satisfied with reading articles and felt like I needed to see a visual representation, so I came to RUclips and found your video. I'm happy I did. 💙
Thank you so much for all that you do. This video was extremely beautiful and exactly what I needed today. It felt like a warm hug and letting me know where I am and how I'm feeling is going to be OK and I'm exactly where I need to be. You're a Gem! THANK YOU!!
What a beautiful video, the meadow of flowers made me feel really nostalgic but I can’t put my finger on the specifics of that feeling, it’s just lovely though. I love love love slow living and there is simple joy in seeing others find peace and contentment in it too - keep sharing please!
I’ve been watching your videos since I was 15. I have now recently just turned 18 and honestly I have gained so much from your videos. I really especially love this one ❤️
This was so peaceful and enchanting! And I admire how calm you sounded when you said that you haven't seen your boyfriend in 9 months. I didn't see mine for 6 months, while recovering from spine surgery as well, so it's been really hard. But 9 months, that's though! I am glad you still found the calm and peace to pursue this simple life, however unplanned for it was. I know it cannot always be easy, no matter what we see on here. I really cross my fingers so the two of you can reunite real soon and build a life together!! ❤️
This video is so beautifully made - it felt therapeutic to watch! I am one who absolutely cherishes the simplest things in life. Nothing makes me happier than a stroll in beautiful nature! The permission and acceptance thing is so hard - we don't actually need it from anyone, yet we hope to have it from everyone. It's almost as if so many of us are living a life we believe others expect from us because that's what we see others being congratulated for - but so many of the people living this way would rather not be living this way in the first place!
Thankyou so much Immy for your content. It inspires me so much and always reminds me to take a look at my life. Your videos make me feel so serene inside and make me go about my day with intention and pleasure. Sending so much love ❤❤❤
I would love to live like you do. I feel like we keep ourselves busy with things that don't matter and fail too see what is really important. You got me dreaming of a house in the country. Your content is always flawless, thanks Immy
I have been asking exactly the same question, and actually suffering from it. We are expected to succeed, to be ‘someone’ in life and this imposed sense of self-worth can actually damage us. It is hard to live a simple life and it should not be... it is harder for the ones whose parents or mentors were over achievers. It should be something that we choose and not something we think we have to do because of how we were raised and how society works...
But still you can achive great things, have carear, set goals etc. while slowing down a little and being more thoughtful, (maybe even getting more from it then) but I think you would have to go through it in your head. When society won't see you running so fast for everything, it could get you to think you don't achive nothing, but when you have it set in your head you know it's not true. What do you think?
I big thank you for sharing this moment with us. A moment of peace and reconnection with what really matters in this world... A happy, peaceful and healthy life 🤍🌼
I used to think I wanted to live in a big city. But then I moved to a small college town for grad school and fell in love with it. Bumping into friends at the farmer’s market, hiking just a 15-20 minute drive away... cities are great but I think I was actually meant for small town life :)
You might enjoy living near Sheffield. It’s a small city but still has everything you need & some incredible vegan restaurants, and has the Peak District right on its doorstep

Great video, thanks Immy - can always relate to a lot of what you share with us. I enjoy your content and I'm trying to reflect my own journey in my own little channel too, albeit with not much confidence 😊 Keep up the good work 💚
this video sparks so many questions for me. will my future career allow me to live a slow life? how do I participate in hustle culture and how can I catch myself encouraging others to engage in hustle culture (and stop)? thank you for asking the question and providing beautiful content as always
Just wanted to let you know, that not only humans enjoy your videos. :) While I was watching our old lady cat was listening to every word you said and every sound you made purring like crazy and slow blinking at my phone. 😻
I think part of why we wonder if we are aloud to lead a simple life, is that its perceived as a luxury, as if somehow you had to be born rich to live a retired life. So many people will resentfully comment "well lucky you, I certainly don't have the time to live this way". It's largely an illusion. People hang on to "busy" because it gives them the illusion that they have value for society in that way - maybe that comes from what our parents and teacher put emphasis on. Isn't it the most useful talent, however, to be able to sit still and without artificial distraction? We should try to cultivate that in our children maybe
Beautiful videography! And that pesto looked amazing! Just a few days ago I made carrot top pesto for the first time bc the carrots I ordered from Imperfect Produce had the tops on and I didn't want them to go to waste and it was way tastier than I expected but now I'm bumbed I didn't think to use the mortar and pestle 😂 I too enjoy doing things the slower, more traditional ways. Thanks for another great video!
Very nice video. The last couple of weeks I've been rethinking what I what I want from life. I always wanted to contribute to nature conservation on some way, and I still want to do that, but the way I aim to do it changed. Instead of working for a big environmental charity, I started thinking about creating a teahouse in my town where we grow herbs and flowers for tea, support local artists, have educational sessions on permaculture and herbal teas. I felt like asking my mother's permission. I thought that she would be disappointed that her daughter with 2 expensive diplomas would like to work in hospitality. She said that she would only be disappointed if her daughter with 2 expensive diplomas would do something that doesn't make her happy.
WoW, Zora… I just love your tea house concept and how it would incorporate local artisans, gardeners, and educators. I say… take your idea and run with it!! I’m happy just reading about it... and I love your Mother’s response!! ☕️🌿🌸
Lovely video. I believe you can also aim for a more simple life in the city and apply many of the things Immy do in the country side. We can grow some food by the window or balcony and many cities have urban gardens to join. Take walks in the park or take a train to a nearby forest/green area to enjoy nature. Prepare a nice meal to share with people you love...
100% loved the video. Also trying to incorporate more slow living in my day to day life. Really hard with the uni hustle culture but it's worth a try. Really wish I didn't live in a city, despite its beauty. The countryside is so much more aesthetically pleasing. 🌷😌
Thanks Emmy this was really a lovely calming video. We think you should live in the English country side so you can continue taking nature walks and gardening.❤
Currently watching this while enjoying breakfast out on our patio with my cat, while eating leftover breakfast. So I'd say I'm a big proponent of living the simple life! haha
It's lovely watching you cook while I'm cooking too. Vegan curry lentils, rice, flatbread, and cilantro pesto to go with the lentils. I have garden envy.......thanks for planting porn. Have to water every day because in California we have a drought. Although will see California supposed to open up June 15th. There is a lot of people who are going to still wear their mask. If you have your shots you don't have to wear your mask in most places on the 15th. Thanks again!!!
I've always preferred the simple life. Now my husband and I are trying to save up enough to move to rural South Africa from the US to be closer to nature and away from society. Also my husband and I have been vegan since 2019 💚

Wow that garden looks amazing! There's nothing more nurturing than growing plants/your own food :)
I’ve enjoyed the journey and your reflections today. This blog is beautifully shot! Thank you! ❤️
You and your boyfriend might enjoy living somewhere like the Peak District or the howgill fells- small towns nearby so not completely isolated but also the hills on your doorstep x
Thank you for your inspirations, so grateful for them!!!
I love your simple life! Simple is good! I grabbed a cup of coffee as I watched this and felt immense calm as you were cooking. Enjoy your day! ✌️🌱
I feel so zen after watching this video. I always do after all your videos, I love them. And yes, absolutely to a simple life! ❤️
Your garden is looking so lush!
Thank you for the words so many of us need to hear. We don't need permission to live our lives.
At my age, excitement is usually not good news! Give me predictable and peaceful any time!!
@@janetstonerook4552 Well said Janet… I’m with ya on this one… all the way ☺️
Thank you for this.
Hi Amber… I just wanted to say that I love your phrase “finding a healthy mental space”. Well said, and so important 😃
Thank yoooou! Enjoyed this video with a little cup of coffee on my balcony here in Stockholm. A simple joy on a slow day like this.
You have discovered the joy of 5am and the sunrise! Beautiful video Immy 🌻
I ask myself this often and I love that this video spoke to me ✨
I love this video so much! It's so gorgeous and calming
Authenticity, organic. Thank you!
A perfect video to watch after a busy and tiring day - so relaxing and satisfying.
I say live wherever you feel the happiest! This video was very relaxing to watch, thank you! 🤗
You're a beautiful soul !!thank you a million times for all you do!🕯️ Love and light from Australia x
A happy, peaceful and healthy life 🤍🌼
Beautiful video 💜 Simplicity is a wonderful choice. It often feels at odds with the world we're in and yet the most natural at the same time 💜
It's a blessing to have a girl who likes simple living.....
Loved this video! My favorite was your walk with your mom and how happy you were when she was singing (I think that's what you said
I used to think I wanted to live in a big city. But then I moved to a small college town for grad school and fell in love with it. Bumping into friends at the farmer’s market, hiking just a 15-20 minute drive away... cities are great but I think I was actually meant for small town life :)
I can't get over how beautiful this video is🌱!!! Slow meaningful and peaceful living is exactly what i want! ❤️💚💙
This video was really inspiring to me, and as I start my first summer of being a teacher, I plan to take it to heart
Major life envy.
You might enjoy living near Sheffield. It’s a small city but still has everything you need & some incredible vegan restaurants, and has the Peak District right on its doorstep
What a beautiful countryside and house. Great job with filming this video. Such a peaceful vibe. Greetings from Poland 🌞.
I just discovered your channel and I loooove this video 🥰 I also feel very drawn to a simpler life. Greetings from Germany 💕
I absolutely love your new style of videos!!
I am a new subscriber and I am so glad I found your channel. This video made me do alot of thinking about living a simple life and knowing that it is okay... Amazing video..
Love this video! Also edging more and more into a simpler way of living. 🥰 also your basil looks amazing, any tips?
Great video, thanks Immy - can always relate to a lot of what you share with us. I enjoy your content and I'm trying to reflect my own journey in my own little channel too, albeit with not much confidence 😊
Keep up the good work 💚
Even before I've watched the video. I'm just gonna say yes to the title
Agree
this video sparks so many questions for me. will my future career allow me to live a slow life? how do I participate in hustle culture and how can I catch myself encouraging others to engage in hustle culture (and stop)? thank you for asking the question and providing beautiful content as always
Love your videos, Immy. Thank you so much for sharing your life. It's very inspiring. ♥
We Indians make a very similar flatbread - called masala kulcha 😁😁😁😁
Just wanted to let you know, that not only humans enjoy your videos. :) While I was watching our old lady cat was listening to every word you said and every sound you made purring like crazy and slow blinking at my phone. 😻
Please post the recipe for your flat bread, looked delish
Abso-bloody-lutely
Love this message.
Who is singing the songs?
This whole video is so peaceful
Lovely video. I believe you can also aim for a more simple life in the city and apply many of the things Immy do in the country side. We can grow some food by the window or balcony and many cities have urban gardens to join. Take walks in the park or take a train to a nearby forest/green area to enjoy nature. Prepare a nice meal to share with people you love...
i love your videos .. its like a mountain of positivity and hope and love ... lots of love and virtual hug from india
100% loved the video. Also trying to incorporate more slow living in my day to day life. Really hard with the uni hustle culture but it's worth a try. Really wish I didn't live in a city, despite its beauty. The countryside is so much more aesthetically pleasing. 🌷😌
Thank you! Beautiful!
Of course it's ok!! ANd it's the best!!!
I've always preferred the simple life. Now my husband and I are trying to save up enough to move to rural South Africa from the US to be closer to nature and away from society. Also my husband and I have been vegan since 2019 💚
Me encanta esta vida
1:28. Ahhh… you’re running out of coffee. I’m trying not to panic for you. Haha 😂☕️
I'm more impressed she managed to ground enough coffee by eye!!
@@warriormonk2611 Ah yes… now that’s what I would call a life skill. Thanks for the laugh nexusvirture… I can always count on you for your witty humour 😃
Of course it's okay to live a simple.e life. You don't have to justify yourself to anyone. ;) you are an inspiration to others and at such a young age. :) you videos are calming and educatioal even to us that have been trying to do the right thing for umpteen years with lots of criticism along the way. :)
Hi Carol… I know I’m from your generation because I can totally relate to the term “umpteen years”. I haven’t heard that term in… well… umpteen years 😂. Great comment, I really enjoyed reading it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
@@marycharlebois6627 lol, I suppose I may be. :) I'm glad someone got something out of it!! :) my kids laugh at me often for the sayings I come out with 😁
Its easy for you to liveca simple life cause you look pretty rich, but we have to struggle even if we want to live simple life just to shift higher in hierarchy and improve our conditions
You're life looks pretty awesome
Brb moving to the English countryside 😍 you are truly blessed
Loved this video Immy
I think its fine to live a simple life as much as possible. everyone has to do what feels right for them :)
My pregnant self is absolutely drooling at that pizza! The older I get the more I crave simple living and peace
I would strongly suggest you read the untethered soul by Michael singer.
Such a beautiful video 🥺
