      If feel any drop, smash clutch and brakes as possible to stop tires while vehicle making barely momentum cuz wheelspin then stopped.
      If that car using grippy tires like LMP. It would send to smash garage back-wall in second.

    Owning one of these and switching lanes on the highway you can totally feel when that 4 wheel steering kicks in, you fucking go to the side so fast and smooth it’s honestly beautiful.

    This video made my evening. This is the first time I have seen a rear wheel of an AWS vehicle turn. I have not seen any of the these vehicles on street in motion. They are always parked.

  • @DocWolph
    @DocWolph 15 лет назад +1

    It's very subtle. Looks like it induces a degree of crab steer rather than counter steer. Then again you wouldn't need much for such a relatively short wheelbase.
    I also noticed that the rear wheels were not that steady and only really activated when the front wheels are locked or close to it. Might need some attention.

    I believe after 95, AWS became an optional item. So some VR4/TT's made after 95 will not have AWS, due to the original owner excluding it.

    Thanks for posting this. I have the same car and it does the same thing had I always thought the ass wasn't working properly since you have to be at full lock to se movement. I now know it acts far differently on the ground than in the air but your video helped me out. We now need to get one of those go-pro cameras and point it at the rear wheels while driving through some slaloms or something. That's where the real show would be :)

    the 3000gt vr-4 is one of my all time favorites! It's interesting how Mitsubishi steers the rear wheels the same direction as the front for high speed stability. Wasn't the early Prelude's system the reverse? I think Honda's was for low speed maneuvering. Both systems work well for their intended purposes, but they were too expensive and us consumers didn't want to pay the extra on a mass scale.
    Cool car anyway, :-)

  • @DocWolph

    @DocWalt
    0:31-0:41 you have the front wheels locked one way then the other and the rear wheels turn but don't stay put. That's what I'm seeing. Not the part right after where you are obviously toying with the steering, which does show the system is not twitch sensitive. It's just curious to me. I've only seen AWS on a couple of Trucks before now. I won't doubt it if you say that's normal for your car. Not many people got the AWS for the 3000GT. Fewer knew it existed.

  • @cks796
    @cks796 4 года назад +1

    It sucks that the AWS system usually leads to chronic Power Steering leaks later in the cars life due to rusting and other complications. Most owners have deleted the AWS system due to the difficulty of obtaining replacement parts or just removing it to save a headache later. I'm buying a 1993 GTO this month and the owner already has really bad Power Steering problems, doing my research leads me to believe that the AWS is the culprit but I'll have to see once I get the car.

  • @cameron878
    @cameron878 14 лет назад +1

    :Not trying to flame you at all, I just know nothing about these AWD TT 3000 GTs. I gathered that you were in 4th. You had to turn the wheel either all the way to lockout or close. At 4th gear, you're doing like what? 50ish MPH at those RPMs? Who ever locked out their steering at that speed? or would the rear tires still turn that little bit without you locking out the steering all the way left or right?

  • @oneslowVR4
    @oneslowVR4 13 лет назад

    @ShinigamiRota weight loss is nice but since the VR4 is front heavy like most cars, removing weight from the front is better...also a good example is relocating the battery to the back because not only are you taking it from the front but adding to the back which balances it out.

    vr4s were made to hunt and destroy supras all day. ONe of the few cars that when modified turn into a fucking beast keeping stock internals. And are basically untouchable as soon as you start working on the motor. I own one and ive seen others take on nsx, supras and 3000zx bottom line this car was made for autocross, handles like a pro specilly with slight mods and tuning.

    • @Aquarius003
      @Aquarius003 3 года назад

      Stock for stock - 3000GT, Supra, 300ZX, NSX, and RX7 were all right around the same. The Supra and RX7 got the good aftermarket.

  • @tienshenhan86
    @tienshenhan86 14 лет назад

    @fidgetingfinch You're not the only one, I built a supra turbo and my knowledge on the all wheel steering system is that it comes on these cars, I think the avalanche truck, but I thought the main vehicle was the U-30 Aircraft tow vehicle, as well as other heavy aircraft tow vehicles. Would love to test it myself on a car that goes faster than 25MPH.

    That's why electric power steering was invented. You could probably use two pumps one for each axle.

  • @ShinigamiRota
    @ShinigamiRota 13 лет назад

    What your view on the removal system's such as the AWS delete?I know it removes wight but the real reason had to be that the rapid(under speed)left and right(such as s-bend)that can freeze up the steering momentarily. Thus removing the system + the added benefit of weight loss. Woulnd't the trail direction of the car be affected(thinking of the conversation of mitsu heads debating over, its so heavy/but look at the cost all ready ect. so added the AWS.not wllng to buy&try first just want exampl.

  • @marxteven
    @marxteven 15 лет назад

    this is the reason why the 3000GT MR or VR4, a heavy grand tourer as it is, is highly maneuverable in traffic. Plus that with the ABS it comes with, you've got a car that's very difficult to crash

    Kind of a rude, but intrigued question. How well will you say this handles compared to newer awd cars? This is really impressive to say the least. Do you know if you have to sacrifice the aero kit if you go with a bigger inter-cooler, or did they find a way to keep it? Thank you.

  • @mrmete

  • @lvcsslacker
    @lvcsslacker 11 лет назад +1

    Almost a year later, and another reply to you. The intercoolers on the 3kGTs are actually off to the sides of the bumpers, leaving the front open for the radiator. Also, if you can, check out the SH Prelude's 4-wheel steering. It's pretty impressive as well.

    • @mitsuevo8mr
      @mitsuevo8mr 6 лет назад +1

      Mitsubishi 4ws is more advance than some 89 prelude awd, vr4 all 4 tires turns at the same direction for better handling, honda prelude when the front tires turn right the rear turns left, in other words they turn the opposite way, not as good whrn in comes to handling..

    do they actually turn or is it leaning the camber off? i though the back wheels turn the opposite way to the front to turn the car in a circle. I'm guessing this was before they put accelerometers in cars.

    • @DocWalt
      @DocWalt  6 лет назад

      Arthur Serino Correct, sort of. It had an accelerometer for the ECS (electronically controlled shocks) and another for the airbag system. Neither used for the all wheel steering.

    • @arthurserino2254
      @arthurserino2254 6 лет назад +1

      But nothing for the 4wd. It and the downforce just made educated guesses based on your speed. The old airbag accelerometers were really just go/no-go switches, a gold-plated steel ball held at the back of a tube by a magnet. The airbag came at you at full power regardless of how hard you hit, how heavy you were, whether the seat belt was fastened, and how your seat was adjusted. Still effective, though.

    • @DeathPredator
      @DeathPredator 4 года назад

      Realizing this is an old comment...but the damned book actually says to accelerate to 31mph (gives NO indication of RPM or that the car should not be in gear) to determine if the flow rate of the rear pump is in spec. The described procedure is to take the return hose off the rear pump and direct it into a container; have someone adding power steering fluid the whole time; accelerate to 31mph; maintain for 30 seconds; measure volume. Should be 1 cubic decimeter (1.06qts). I thought that was weird as hell.

    Won't hurt the LSD...Despite what the manufacturer says.
    These stock LSDs withstand 600WHP of hell...A little resistance from the weight of the wheels working against it during 0% throttle won't hurt it. Unless there is a nother quantifiable reason as to why this shouldn't be done, of course ;)
