- Today we came to Yumuzhai in Lichuan City, Hubei Province. This is the best-preserved Tujia village in the country. It is located on the top of a large mountain surrounded by cliffs. There is only a two-meter-wide stone road at the main entrance to and from the village. Only one person can pass through the village gate. There are cliffs on both sides. The terrain here is dangerous, easy to defend but difficult to attack. It can be said that one man is in charge of the pass. No one can stop it. It is said that when the chieftains were fighting, the dangerous terrain of Yumuzhai made it difficult for the opponent to attack for a long time. A few months later, Chieftain Ma who was guarding the village dropped a live fish and hung it on the tree in front of Chieftain Tan who came to attack the village.
