I have to admit is is a well ststed video. I would have never thought of doing this. I still have my Lionel trains from about 60 years ago. Now that I am retired this gives me something to keep me busy.
Thank you so much - about to lay a Timpo Wild West track for a war game ( we believe games are hugely enhanced when our terrain embraces the Railway Modeller Aesthetic!) and this video has been HUGELY useful! You’re a star!
I've never had a problem with the fumes. You're not really spraying that much of it at any one time. The roadbed I buy is a little higher than some other brands, but that's just how I like it. It's really got nothing to do with the railroads around where I live. Just a preference.
Hi Eric, My name is Allan and I want to tell you that I enjoyed your video on How-to Ballast your O Scale Tracks. What I would like to know is in part 1 of your 3part tutorial you mentioned that you lay down your Ballast and in one end you then screw it down. Then and here is where I didn't quite understand what you were explaining to those watching you said to go ahead and screw down the other side. Now sir wouldn't I need to place a screw in the middle of the ballast to maintain the shape of the track and wait about 30 min so the Ballast can hold its shape? Allan
Hi Eric, I know this is one of your older vids but I was wondering if you remember what colors and size Brennan;s Ballast you used here. I really like. My wife also likes the purple foliage you used between the tracks at the start most videos. I really enjoy and appreciate all of tips that you have shared over the years as well as product reviews. I have found them informative, enjoyable and inspirational in my quest to complete my layout. Please feel free check checkout the xmas and halloween displays my wife and I have createdover the years. Best, Joe Gozzo
Hi Eric it's Allan again I was wondering why haven't you been answering your questions and comments? I've never built a layout in my life so please bare with me. I have a question about your tutorial on placing ballast on the tracks. What should be the best number of tracks to lay down at once before I add the ballast to the tracks? I'm sorry if my question sounds stupid to you since you know a great deal about building a layout. I've gone to several hobby shops and train stores and they could tell me is to buy these books or tell me a bunch of nonsense that doesn't make any sense at all. Thank you for your time in answering my question and comments. I hope to hear your response some day. Sincerely Allan
Eric- how would you do this with an entirely connected layout of track? Would you still remove it like this or would you lay it all out on the homasote on the layout and then, with the track connected, ballast it? In other words, did you ballast your layout track by track and then connect them or did you do it all together?
Awesome video, very useful.

Good evening and of your videos are very very excellent keep doing new ones and keep up the good work 👍🎥

very informative thank you instructions were clear & easy to follow. thank you.
Sure.
Great instructional tutorial
Thanks! Can't wait for more great vids to come!
@Imperiatus Not really. Fastrack already has "ballast". I've seen some people do it to fast track, but with mixed results.
@Imperiatus You can do whatever you like. It's not against the law. :)
Are you sure about that? I read on the news somewhere that it's against the law to use Goo Gone to clean glue off model train tracks...
Get all the track laid, all your track electronics done and then ballast at the end. Ballasting is the last thing you want to do.
Great job! I will do that soon. Great help!
can you make a tutorial on how to weather the track? Love the vidio!

nice job
That will be a separate video on weathering the rails.
Yes. In part 1 of this 3-part video I state that it's Atlas O track. :)
Eric - What about painting the track? What do you use for your layout?
Sure
Awesome, thanks!
Nice Job. forgot 2 paint the sides of the track
@dtmwalkthroughs Acetone.
@dtmwalkthroughs So I did.
I believe I use alcohol in this video. You can use either.
I'd reccomend calling the guy who sells it and ask him if you want a good estimate.
Where can I purchase an eyedropper like yours from.
BTW, thanks for the tips.
Great! No Scenery tips (the stuff you did after ballasting)?

OK. I could probably touch the sides and base though eh?
Thanks!

Does using Elmer's glue leave a sticky gluey smell to the ballast?
can i use the alcohal to clean the track because my room is way smaller and the fumes from the acitone is overwheming.
Eric, first off, I appreciate your videos. Thank you for sharing!
Question: Can I ballast Lionel Fastrack the same way?
Could I use GOO GONE to clean the rails after I glue the ballast?

Lay down all your track before you start ballasting. Ballasting is the last step.
