Okay, I am writing this before you make your picks. The first time I listened only. I wanted to just hear the artists and not see what they were doing. It came down to Dimas and Dan. I went through a second time and watched the video. Corvyx was too AI for me. Sorry Noah, but this song really needs the original instrumentation. I have to give it to Dan. Dimas doesn't enunciate as well and I get more emotion in Dan's voice. This probably was a track that Dan purchased. He always give the people playing on his videos credit. Nothing wrong with a straight, true to the original cover. You would have gotten the smile from Dan if you listened to Dan's outro. He loves to sing Steve Perry. Dear reactors….. you need to read Dan’s titles of his songs. He will tell you what to expect. If he says ‘cover by’, or ‘by a metal musician’, it is exactly that, not metaled up. It will be a cover. Respectful and true to the song. He will say it in the title if it will be a ‘metal cover’, aka… if Dan ‘Vascifies’ it UP (still respectfully to the original) with metal. Dan’s beautiful cover was exactly what he said it would be.

Noah takes me back to the 60s when people would sit around and take turns singing the songs that were popular at the time. Dimas has a beautiful voice, but he has a little too much vibrato at times for me. At this point I was thinking that Dimas might beat Dan until Dan started singing and I heard the richness and depth of his voice.

Tricky one! In considering "who did it better", I want to emphasise the subjectivity of artistic expression. Music, as an art form, is deeply personal and subjective, with artists often forming connections and preferences based on their unique experiences, emotions, and backgrounds. What resonates with one person may not necessarily resonate with another, and what one individual perceives as superior or exceptional, another may find lacking or unappealing. Music isn’t a competition! All that being said the cover that I prefer is Corvyx! His consummate command of vocal technique adds so many layers to the track for me and casts a transformative spell, he has a way of taking a track and elevating it to an ethereal plane, I think he's a hugely underrated vocalist and should be up there with the greats.
My honest reaction: Did not care for #1. It was a little weird, and the flashing lights started to trigger a migraine. #2 was boring to me. #3 was ok, but I don't like Dimash's vibrato at all. #4 Sung to a track with the uncomfortable instrumental pause, but his voice is a homage to Steve Perry and couldn't be more beautiful. A young Dan Vasc was phenomenal! A perfect vocal cover!

Guthrie: it's ok, but I'd get tired of it real fast. Something about his vocal styling that kind of put me off. Dimas: what's with the breathiness in his singing? no thanks. The instruments being muted probably happened so that he can sing over them and be heard. He probably doesn't have the power to be heard very well otherwise, especially with the breathy singing he does here. Dan: I'd be curious as to what Dan would do if he remade a cover of this song today. More power vocally than the others in my opinion, and that is one of the things that was frequently said about Steve Perry. For me, it's Dan with the win.
as to the awkwardness during the instrumentation towards the end and the more note for note version Dan did: Back in the day, most of Dan's covers were more straightforward and true to the originals. For the awkwardness, have any singer without a band doing similar and unless they massively shorten it (which would potentially ruin it), they'll be doing the same.
One thing I would add in regards to these Battle of the Bands type things: if there are musical interludes where a singer by themselves will be boring or uninteresting just standing there, try to listen to the various versions without watching the video; which version sounds best then? I mean, back in the day, before MTV and music videos, that's what we did; we heard it on the radio, and if it appealed to us, then we bought the album if we had the opportunity to do so.

A lot of Dan's older covers are more true to the originals. And some people complained . Then he started putting more of his own spin on things. And some people complained. Now his covers are done exactly the way he wants to do them and most of us love them. But again, some people complain. He has said the after the battle to 1,000,000 is over, he will be doing more metal and more of his original work. I'm looking forward to it. even though I know..........some people will complain.
several listens, back to the screen, facing the screen listening to snippets of the original... all of that and I was torn of course.. but I do prefer Dan's version... to be honest it felt more true to the original...
My respect goes to all four performers. My favorite, however, is Corvyx. I'm impressed by his fantastic voice, how he "plays" with it and how he feels and lives the song. He takes me on his “song journey”. So again, for me the clear winner in this comparison is Corvyx. ❤️🔥🖤🖤🖤❤️🔥
Wow, they were all wonderful. But the opinion of this 64 year old woman has to go with #1. I'm familiar with the 1st, 2nd, and 4th performers. The 3rd guy's voice was unique but didn't blow me away. Noah did a beautiful rendition but a little lack-luster. The 4th performer's voice is incredible, but the instrumental and presentation were also lack-luster. So, in saying all that... my vote goes to the 1st preformer Corvyx. Voice, style, visual, interpretation 100% 😊

I just felt Corvyx’s cover to be too techno and flashy, not my cuppa. Guthrie’s I appreciated, it reminded me a bit of James Bay’s early acoustics, which I love. I wondered if Guthrie was British too from some inflections he had, but no, Google said he is from South Carolina, LOL. Interesting. Dimash’s cover was very well done, he is a talented vocalist and can certainly growl a bit but it seemed almost puppyish to me. Steve Perry is one of Dan’s artistic influences mentioned in his bio. This particular cover of Dan’s is from his earlier works and I think maybe it would be distinctly different now if he did it, IDK. And just to clarify for Dan Vasc fans, there is never an awkward moment watching him do nothing. Lol! I happen to BE a fan of Steve Perry and Journey cuz’ I’m that old. Dan may have lacked “sprinkles” in this cover😂 but I think he did it intentionally and I love it. It’s Dan for me ❤. This was great. I love these comparison reactions you do. Okay, so, first things first, right? When you see a song with the name @CORVYX in the title, you better know - this is going to be mind-blowing. His vocals are something out of this world, and he can bring any song back to life. When his voice meets his visuals, the authentic idea for the cover and it all gets wrapped up in a video, it opens a whole new world. Yes, his videos are pretty minimalistic, but not everything has to be hidden in the frames. This singer is like the Supreme witch - he doesn't need the "safety shadow", he's a masterpiece himself and there is no reason to hide. He could simply sit there and sing and still leave the listener fascinated, that's why he doesn't really need to create a new dance or movie for the song. Because Corvyx isn't 'just' an artist, he is art himself. Is there still a question about who covered the song better? I think, not anymore. 😊
They were all good. Of the ones you showed, I think I liked the Dimas version the most. I don't like to say better, too subjective a word. If you do a part 2 for this song, I suggest the recent cover version by Daughtry feat Lzzy Hale.
I don’t really like the spirit of this kind of competition. But if I were forced to choose~ Dan Vasc for the win. Hands down.🙌 There’s simply no comparison. I’d put the 3rd performer in 2nd place but still nowhere near Dan’s vocal skills, especially today. ETA: The first performance honestly gave me a migraine with the flashing lights and computerized sounding vocals. Dan’s rich & soothing voice made my headache better almost instantly. What a beautiful voice.
To be fair, Dan was still in the earlier stages of learning what works well on RUclips and what he wanted to tweak/change. You won’t see that awkward standing around in any of his more recent videos because he discovered back then that he really disliked standing around waiting. Now he shows the guys playing instruments. He was also pumping out a video a week back then, (which he says he’ll never do again) and yes, singing to a track, so…your mileage may vary on whether the song is a hit or not. This song is not one of my favourites of Dan’s. He has better songs. Go with the ones people recommend in the comments. (Was this one people recommended a lot? I’d be surprised if they did.) Also, heads up: Dan’s “Sound of Silence” is a straight up almost note for note cover, so you probably won’t like that about it. I do like it. Cindy will. But it may annoy you because of how close it sounds to David Dreiman’s voice. Still…it’s one of Dan’s most popular videos. Up to you whether or not you want to see for yourself. But consider yourself warned. (Maybe it helps to know what to expect.)

In my opinion, Corvyx is different than the others as he breathes fresh air into this song, which is indeed a big song sung by a big voice. He gives the song a new power and energy. I knew Dan Vasc from before, he's a force of nature and his covers are really good (this one included). The other two are place 3 and 4 for me. Not amazing, but definitely not bad either. They just don't give me the kick I'm looking for when it comes to this song.
Corvyx is electronic pop emo (kind of like he’s competing on The Voice), Noah Guthrie, again a Voice audition… nice voice but not my cup of tea, Dimas great voice for the song but didn’t quite get the emotion, Dan Vasc vocal prowess, emotion are spot on and gives everything you want from a Journey cover, and yes if he did it today he would throw in in a lot more surprises but still #1 from these 4 covers.
Nemophila in part 2.. They knock it out the park, even have a side by side mv with the original video.. Tamu the drummer, as a hommage to Steve Smith (the drummer from Journey) Plays in his unusual style and dons a false moustace.. Bearing in mind Mayu the singer does not speak English, and relies on Saki the guitarist to coach her, quite amazing.. If you don't pic it for the part 2 you should watch it anyway, it's very cool..

Dan. His vocal quality is vastly superior.
A lot of Dan's older covers are more true to the originals. And some people complained . Then he started putting more of his own spin on things. And some people complained. Now his covers are done exactly the way he wants to do them and most of us love them. But again, some people complain. He has said the after the battle to 1,000,000 is over, he will be doing more metal and more of his original work. I'm looking forward to it. even though I know..........some people will complain.

several listens, back to the screen, facing the screen listening to snippets of the original... all of that and I was torn of course.. but I do prefer Dan's version... to be honest it felt more true to the original...
I vote Corvyx. They all had something i like, but i really like his artistic creativity🤩 and his vocal reach is amazing🤩
My respect goes to all four performers. My favorite, however, is Corvyx. I'm impressed by his fantastic voice, how he "plays" with it and how he feels and lives the song. He takes me on his “song journey”. So again, for me the clear winner in this comparison is Corvyx. ❤️🔥🖤🖤🖤❤️🔥
Wow, they were all wonderful. But the opinion of this 64 year old woman has to go with #1. I'm familiar with the 1st, 2nd, and 4th performers. The 3rd guy's voice was unique but didn't blow me away. Noah did a beautiful rendition but a little lack-luster. The 4th performer's voice is incredible, but the instrumental and presentation were also lack-luster. So, in saying all that... my vote goes to the 1st preformer Corvyx. Voice, style, visual, interpretation 100% 😊

I just felt Corvyx’s cover to be too techno and flashy, not my cuppa. Guthrie’s I appreciated, it reminded me a bit of James Bay’s early acoustics, which I love. I wondered if Guthrie was British too from some inflections he had, but no, Google said he is from South Carolina, LOL. Interesting. Dimash’s cover was very well done, he is a talented vocalist and can certainly growl a bit but it seemed almost puppyish to me. Steve Perry is one of Dan’s artistic influences mentioned in his bio. This particular cover of Dan’s is from his earlier works and I think maybe it would be distinctly different now if he did it, IDK. And just to clarify for Dan Vasc fans, there is never an awkward moment watching him do nothing. Lol! I happen to BE a fan of Steve Perry and Journey cuz’ I’m that old. Dan may have lacked “sprinkles” in this cover😂 but I think he did it intentionally and I love it. It’s Dan for me ❤. This was great. I love these comparison reactions you do. Okay, so, first things first, right? When you see a song with the name @CORVYX in the title, you better know - this is going to be mind-blowing.
His vocals are something out of this world, and he can bring any song back to life. When his voice meets his visuals, the authentic idea for the cover and it all gets wrapped up in a video, it opens a whole new world. Yes, his videos are pretty minimalistic, but not everything has to be hidden in the frames. This singer is like the Supreme witch - he doesn't need the "safety shadow", he's a masterpiece himself and there is no reason to hide. He could simply sit there and sing and still leave the listener fascinated, that's why he doesn't really need to create a new dance or movie for the song. Because Corvyx isn't 'just' an artist, he is art himself.
Is there still a question about who covered the song better? I think, not anymore. 😊

There’s simply no comparison. I’d put the 3rd performer in 2nd place but still nowhere near Dan’s vocal skills, especially today.
ETA: The first performance honestly gave me a migraine with the flashing lights and computerized sounding vocals. Dan’s rich & soothing voice made my headache better almost instantly. What a beautiful voice.

To be fair, Dan was still in the earlier stages of learning what works well on RUclips and what he wanted to tweak/change. You won’t see that awkward standing around in any of his more recent videos because he discovered back then that he really disliked standing around waiting. Now he shows the guys playing instruments.
He was also pumping out a video a week back then, (which he says he’ll never do again) and yes, singing to a track, so…your mileage may vary on whether the song is a hit or not. This song is not one of my favourites of Dan’s. He has better songs. Go with the ones people recommend in the comments. (Was this one people recommended a lot? I’d be surprised if they did.)
Also, heads up: Dan’s “Sound of Silence” is a straight up almost note for note cover, so you probably won’t like that about it. I do like it. Cindy will. But it may annoy you because of how close it sounds to David Dreiman’s voice. Still…it’s one of Dan’s most popular videos. Up to you whether or not you want to see for yourself. But consider yourself warned. (Maybe it helps to know what to expect.)

In my opinion, Corvyx is different than the others as he breathes fresh air into this song, which is indeed a big song sung by a big voice. He gives the song a new power and energy. I knew Dan Vasc from before, he's a force of nature and his covers are really good (this one included). The other two are place 3 and 4 for me. Not amazing, but definitely not bad either. They just don't give me the kick I'm looking for when it comes to this song.

Corvyx is electronic pop emo (kind of like he’s competing on The Voice), Noah Guthrie, again a Voice audition… nice voice but not my cup of tea, Dimas great voice for the song but didn’t quite get the emotion, Dan Vasc vocal prowess, emotion are spot on and gives everything you want from a Journey cover, and yes if he did it today he would throw in in a lot more surprises but still #1 from these 4 covers.

Tamu the drummer, as a hommage to Steve Smith (the drummer from Journey) Plays in his unusual style and dons a false moustace.. Bearing in mind Mayu the singer does not speak English, and relies on Saki the guitarist to coach her, quite amazing.. If you don't pic it for the part 2 you should watch it anyway, it's very cool..
