My wonderful boyfriend, now equally wonderful husband, introduced me to Van, when we started dating. Unfortunately, at that point he was done touring. I immediately, and hopelessly, fell in love with him, and his transcendental playing...he will forever hold a piece of my heart, and I hold him dear, whenever I play my own piano! ❤️

I love the moment when MG arrived in his mythic limo Zil ... like a authentic state leader.
So, we don't must forget one thing; Gorvachev and Yeltsin was a pair of persons easy of surprising with this kind of ceremonies and protocols to try of buy their dignities ...
    Reagan did it with Gorvachev...
    Clinton with Yeltsin...
Both american presidents buy the dignity of those two leaders.... but now with Putin all that protocols and ceremonies are obsoletes and useless when a authentic world leader knows what really wants the US government.
Why Obama, Bush, don't doing the same thing ?? Easy, Putin is honest and unbreakable with the US methods.
This is history, today the world is different.
Russia is not the Soviet Union anymore ...Russia is different today.

Here is the stark example of how a foreign country treats Gorbachev - a person who is going to ruin his homeland. He is venerated, respected and cherished as a hero. On the contrary, look at how they feel about Putin now - (not a flawless person at all, but still) who is a Russian patriot and defends Russia's interest on every front - he is being hated, smeared and turned into a boogeyman in the West. How can one not see hypocricy and not hate politics after that?

I think this piece says more about Van Cliburn than the
politics. His warmth towards everyone and his singing
of Moscow Nights. You would have to be hard hearted

music and song and his gracious manner.

@@charmainemorley2197 So beautifully stated! We need more Van Cliburns in the world, don’t we? I remember when he returned from Russia, people asked him if he was a communist or if he supported communism. Some people just couldn’t see the impact he had made, and see beyond the political part of it. He made such a connection with the people, from the moment he took the stage…and to this day, Russians still appreciate the awakening he gave them. One man really did make a difference! He solidified the universal language of music! ❤️He was such a classy, beautiful, man…who deeply loved his state of Texas, his country, and by all accounts everyone whose path he ever crossed.
