It’s just disgusting how Abby treated the girls especially Chloe, Paige, Nia, and Brooke. Brooke lost interest in dancing because of Abby and Abby wouldn’t let her be a teenager, trying different things outside of dance, and have fun. Abby always underestimated Paige and told her she would be nothing but a pretty face. Paige even had pain attacks because of Abby. Abby also was rude to both Paige and Brooke because she had problems with their mom Kelly.Abby was blatantly racist towards Nia with the stereotypical, typecasting dance numbers, underestimating her, and not including Nia in activities with the other girls. Chloe was constantly bullied and picked on by Abby, made Chloe have low self esteem constantly being pressured to be like Maddie. We can’t forget when Abby made fun of Chloe’s condition with her eye. Abby really put trauma on these girls and shouldn’t be surprised that none of are keeping in contact with her.
The most full circle last episode of a TV show. At the end of season 7 the episode is called “Everyone’s Replaceable…Even Abby” and the mothers realize how far Abby’s behavior has gone and had effected the girl’s permanently and how Abby is going to jail soon and won’t be of any value guiding their kids anymore. So they all finally leave the ALDC permanently and most of them never see Abby again. Abby is left alone crying and saying that she regrets everything.
There's a series on RUclips called Dance Moms Uncovered where a young woman talks about all the craziness that went down on the show. I loved watching all the dances but seeing the girls being treated horribly (especially the discrimination against Nia, Camryn, Nicaya, Kamryn) kept me from watching. Every episode of Dance Moms Uncovered I learn something new. The show was WILD
Honestly abi seemed jealous that Kelly gave birth to two talented dancers , she knew Kelly as a kid and hated her. Also I think Kelly was the better dancer because there is a video of Abby dancing online as a child and she isn’t good at all. Even worse than Nia who she deemed as “terrible” . Also I remember on dance moms it was stated that Kelly was a great dancer as a kid.
Fascinating and straightforward video on the disfunction relationship between Abby and Kelly they had a very long history before Dance Moms started to film on TV. Abby was so cruel towards not Kelly and her daughters but to the other dancers and their mothers on the show
Kelly and Christi have a podcast where they look back at old episodes and Kelly has repeatedly said her mind has blocked out huge chunks of her time on Dance Moms, probably due to trauma.
I felt so bad for Nia, especially cause she was my favorite dancer. I think you touched on this before, but I felt like alot of the rare solo routines Nia was given didn't let her express/display how talented she was. I also hated how most of the seasons were only catered around Maddie, like she's a great dancer, but let's not act like she was the only great dancer on the show. It was so disgusting how Abby would take her anger she had with the mothers out on the girls. I felt really bad for Brooke, Paige, and Chloe in particular. That's why I was happy when JoJo stuck up for herself and just left the studio to do her own thing. (Side note: Y'all remember how Abby and the mom's were bashing JoJo w/t snide remarks for choosing to be an influencer and living her life). I also didn't know Abby was jealous of Kelly or that Kelly left dance in favor of cheering. I thought Abby was just furious and hateful b/c Brooke decided to leave dance for cheerleading, so she decided to make their last few days as miserable as possible. Plus, I don't even blame Brooke for leaving. Your interests change as you get older, Abby's aggressive behavior wasn't helping, and idk if she still had issues w/t one of her feet (considering she was run over by car when she was younger).
I never watched ‘Dance Moms,’ BUT I do think the show was toxic. Your critique makes the show look ten times worse and thank you for sharing your experience too. Dancing professionally is no joke and this is coming from someone who can’t dance😭💯
I loved dance moms for a while. Omg do you remember when abbey said Kelly stole her boyfriend? How old were they? How old was he? A lot of questionable things happened.
It made me so sad for Chloe when she handed her award to maddie because Abby went to the judges and manipulated the points. They all deserved better. No I don't think Abby should make a return.
Harriyanna i know you only mentioned speaking volume for a moment but i gotta know how you feel comfortable being loud. what you said about hating when people tell you you’re too quiet is exactly how i feel when people tell me i’m too loud! i can’t hear my own volume so controlling it isn’t an option, i just wanna know how to feel as proud as you when i make someone have to turn down their volume♥️😭
Just at the beginning I did cheerleading briefly since I didnt really get much time to do it, I LOVED tumbling and dancing but holy hell its so toxic. Sucks the stereotypes are true, same with gymnastics but not the same extent as cheerleading
I heard somewhere that when Abby's mom was alive and still owned the studio it was known as Reign dance productions/Maryen Lorraine dance productions (one of the two can't remember which) and Abby Lee dance company was the competition team. When Abby took over she slowly fazed out the other names but it was still refered to the other names for like legal reasons etc.
I never saw dance moms when it was on but I just went down a rabbit hole of looking at the toxicity of it on RUclips when I started ur vid in the beginning specifically how Abby treated the little girls and it’s all so disturbing and just horrible. I don’t know how she can’t see how terrible she was to those poor little girls. I hope all those girls were able to mentally separate themselves from that type of behavior she made them endure for so long. Ugh. Like I can’t even see this show as entertainment, it just makes me upset and scared for the girls. I- I- I don’t even have the words just traumatizing

Brooke’s pain was due to a broken growth plate if I’m not mistaken and the constant acrobatics Abby gave her instead of trying new dances.

You’re correct. Abby did not start running a studio at 14, she began being a coach at that age while her mother owned the studio.
