From your conversation one thing I can infer is that Stonebwoy wanted the writer to switch attention from the past sound and focus on the present and future sound. He is wrong. If he continues to do that it will come across as someone who does not want the pioneers to be recognised. If truly wants the Ghana sound to be captured, he should alllow Hiplife at 30 years to be talked about. He will be tagged as arrogant if he doesn’t stop this

Highlife and Hiplife is the culture and native sound.
I’m a foot soldier of the BHIM National. But as a matter of fact we can’t use any genre like Afro Dancehall and HipHop to go global as these genres are from the Caribbean and the West.
Nigerians are going global because of Afrobeat which is new to every ear in the Caribbean and the West.
The HipHop and Afrodanchall that we want to switch to doesn’t get the impact that we want from the west because they know it already. So if we’ve gotten the chance, we have to push the native sounds and make the conscious effort to resurrect it and push the sound. If we do it well, people will really tap in because Highlife and Hiplife have content more than Afrobeat and amapiano.

What do we identify as? Cos it's sure not afro beats even if the artistes are jumping on the sound, there's no way Grammys would publish an article on afrobeats and look to Ghana when Nigeria has exponentially amassed the global appeal.
I think Stonebwoy's concern is a tad bit of insecurity, because for the ghanaian sound in its originality transitioned from highlife to hip life which is a fusion of original ghanaian sound (high life) with hip hop and has become a sound we identify as our own so every essential contributor as mentioned by the article, when writing about Ghana's original sound ought to be emboldened, where as the sound of Reggae - Dancehall is clearly an adaptation with its source coming from elsewhere.
Had it been named like how hip hop + high life = hiplife
Then there would be a reggae + highlife sound so ghanaians who resonate with the sound would see the identity of the sound. But as long as it stays Reggae/Dancehall, it's a sound of others, therefore, the identity of stonebwoy in terms of ghanaian sound is ????

He has no point. The Recording Academy wrote the article specifically to celebrate the Hiplife genre from Ghana. The fact that Hiplife isn't what is pushing our music to the world now doesn't mean it cannot be written about. In any case, why does he want to dictate to the Recording Academy what they should and should not write about. Reggae/Dancehall isn't what is pushing our music either but if the article was about Reggae/Dancehall in Gh would he make these same statements?
Lastly, what does I identify as a “Ghanaian artiste” mean?

Grammy is not his, nor is it owned by any other artist. It is owned by a company, and the company has the right to write whatever they want to write. You know how many articles have been written about past artist from different genre of music and you still don't hear no noise coming from current artist disputing their write ups? Acknowledging that you are wrong is being of wisdom. If he had sticked to our traditional sounds and music (high life/hip life) by now he would have been carrying the torch. But instead you kept on pushing reggae/dancell sound to your brand, in which is not what this article talked about.

I’m a fan of stonebwoy and I’m also typical Ashaiman boy and I disagree with Stonebwoy. He shouldn’t have responded to the post. But I also have a problem with the article like TIc Tact said. Batman and Bandana can’t be in a Hip Life conversation ahead of BuK Bak, 4x4, TIc Tac, TH4Kwages Castro etc… And when it comes to Bandana, his relevant impact in the industry was when he came back as Shatta Wale(Dancehall artiste) and not when he was Banada. When Hip Life was buzzing highly in the early 2000’s Bandana was like the likes of Boly, Akonfem(Ashaiman), Pope Skinny and those artistes who are seen as the minors who record just some 1 and 2 album’s and then get lost. A perfect example is Yaw Tug and the likes. So though Stonbowy is wrong for responding, but the writer also wasn’t well informed.
What he said is true cos one day they will base it on the fact that we don’t do Afro pop music we do hip life then Nigerians will always be ahead of us .
