Thanks for this video - really helped! This beats soldering. Never did get the coax stripper cut-depths adjusted - no matter what I did the 'back' one cut cutting through the braid. Appreciate you sharing a nice clear/simple video.
Excellent, short and clear vid. I’m just gearing up for HF and it seems cheaper to buy some coax at the local store and trim the ends off, put on some PL239’s than to buy the exact cable and fittings online. We’re pretty remote. That cutter looks inexpensive. Not as hard as I thought it might be. Thanks!
Do you know which crimp barrel I have to take for the 5 mm cables such as Airborne-5 and Aircell-5. These cables have exactly 5 mm diameter and I think the RG58 is a bit thicker. I had issues with wrong barrels which causes the plug not not be fixed on the cable. Thank you for your video.
Great video! Which crimp connectors are you using? The ones I've been finding online are for solid core only or, does it really matter? If I can use any crimp only connector, it will solve my problems with the solder type. Thank you for posting!
Hi Stuart, Long time no hear, Hope your well mate? lovely clear tutorial video nicely done! I'm curious about the crimping pliers, firstly is the largest hexagonal aperture die in the jaws for crimping RG213 ferrule collars? and if so where did you get them? I've been looking for a set of crimp pliers that do both 58 and 213 collars but so far haven't found any. 73, Tom, 26DA75.
Hi Tom thanks for your comment.... The crimp pliers are from maplins, I believe they will do RG213 collars (the info on the maplins webpage says they do) however i personally haven't used them to do any RG213 stuff yet.
Really clear vid Stuart. Silly question, are those pl259 plugs a "crimp type" or normal? Also, where do you get those rubber boots from? 73 and thanks for posting.
Simple instruction....minimal dialog...right to the point. Excellent video.
This is a very well made clear video. This will help people who want to make their own leads but cannot solder.
Cheers for the comment Fred, Yes they certainly will help those that can't solder & make changing one out in the field easier.

I've messed up lots of plugs by soldering, these are perfect for me. Good tutorial Stu.
Best tutorial on the web for these connectors.
Never actually seen these 'solderless' plugs up close. Much less hassle than firing up the soldering iron! thanks for the video.

What's the #number you have to set your cable stripper? Mine has 6,8,9 and D.
nice video mate. never seen one done myself. very good.
Thanks Marc
Nice to see someone using a dedicated coax stripper. Only $15 or so for a coax stripper yet everyone insists on using open razor blades. Why?
Thank you sir!
Thanks for the video.
What did you set your cable prep tool at? I have a cable cutter like you have, and I guess it would set at #8.
Great instructional video. Thanks and 73, Ray AA4EZ
Are those Boots readily available and what are Crimps correct name? Thanks
Great question.
Where do ya find the boots?
I got the boots from ebay.

What are the name of the crimpers (Name/MODEL).
Great ! Should you check for continuity before the crimps just in case?
I've not had one with a short yet.
Tks, me ajudou muito.
Never seen these 'solder-less' plugs were you get them from Stu?
Hi john thanks for your comment, Thr plugs are from ebay.

What brand of RG58 is that? Looks much better than the crap I recently bought. Are there specs to look for?
The coax is RG58 CU Mil Spec and i got it from Nevada Radio.
I like the cutter that you use, will that cutter work for RG58 and RG213. Thanks Stuart
It will work on RG58 (as in the video) and RG59, Im not sure about RG213 sorry.
Silly me yes I meant RG213, looks like a trip to Maplins
Really clear vid Stuart. Silly question, are those pl259 plugs a "crimp type" or normal? Also, where do you get those rubber boots from? 73 and thanks for posting.
Hi Tim, Thanks for your comment.... The pl259s used in the video are a crimp only type, They can be found on ebay as can the rubber boots.
Very Good, Would it be OK to put a link to this from my East Midlands SSB Net Facebook Group, thanks, Stu DR455 - CT2652
