Many thanks! Good job!
You are a gem.
you have made 7 people happy thats something ive never been capable of
Wow, thank you for that!!!👍
The only one you didn’t make happy is Deen Castronovo. But I bet you made Danny happy! 🤣 Wait. And it’s Kenny Aronoff. ☺️
You missed Phil Collins. Not 80s singing Phil, but prog rock archetype Phil from 60s and 70s when Peter Gabriel was out front and Steve Hackett was on guitar.
Phil's best drumming was with Brand X. Even Buddy Rich loved it
These lists are a fools errand.
Brand X phill was amazing .after that ughhh
@@nepoleonbonaparte6517 shush!
Great list! Just missing Gavin Harrison on the progressive rock list!
I’m so happy that Jeff Porcaro is on here he is my FAVOURITE drummer
Indeed, the rosanna shuffle is extraordinary
Jeff was, and will always remain, THE Drummer.
What a list, and LOVE THEM ALL!!!!
But damn it, I just can't stop tearing up every time Neil Peart is mentioned.
❤️🙏🥁💔😭🤘🏻❤️
Todd Sucherman of Styx...amazing technical drummer...even plays with traditional grip. Obviously all the drummers on the list are all great...but Todd should be included as well!
Traditional grip is nothing special. Its just a way to hold a stick.
Todd is a great drummer. You're right.
Omg, just for the stuff he laid down on "come sail away" alone
John Panozzo was also a great drummer and he played on come sail away
lol
Well many of the greats are here…. I’m glad you included Bernie Dresel ( one of the most amazing drummers I’ve ever seen! I was a bit disappointed to not see Papa Joe Jones or Barriemore Barlow of Jethro Tull. Shiela Escovado and Teri Lynne Carrrington are amazing as well. Don’t forget Manu Katche!!!
Thank you for an amazing enjoyable video
Not a bad list, people can disagree- also, Vinnie Colaiuta could have been in every genre.
jar1001 agree
in the 90s vinnie was hailed best around now he seem to get no recognition.
Yeah, totally agree.
once he takes the cigarette out of his mouth
Porcaro too.
What about Clyde Stubblefield, not only one of best for sure but also literally the most sampled drummer of all time. Even if you dont know his name you know Funky Drummer!
indeed
Un grave error no incluir al gran Keth Moon en la lista de los mejores bateristas del Rock. Es algo inadmisible.
No Keith moon, no Phill Collins and no Ringo Starr or no Charlie Watts means only technique is more important than music. What is a good skilled drummer ?
Missed Jimmy Chamberlain, Dave Abbruzzese, Matt Garstka, Thomas Haake, Tony Royster Jr., Chris Coleman and Mike Mitchell. But it's a good list, tho. Way better than that bizarre Rolling Stone magazine's drummers list.
I was bummed Jimmy Chamberlin wasn’t on here
Thank you for including Tony Royster Jr., How about Chad Smith and Sonny Emory???
Jimmy Chamberlain is one of my favorites too
Rolling Stone's lists are always crap anyways
@@ronaldhiggins6805 oh yeah, good call on chad Smith and Sonny emory
How do you have any kind of drummer's list without Danny Seraphine? (?????) I've been following his career since I first met him in 1968, just after I turned 12 years old and he was almost 20. He created the whole genre of Jazz-Rock Fusion, and on February 15, 1967, got six other guys together to write and play it with him (Chicago Transit Authority, later called Chicago), and is still active with his band California Transit Authority since 2010. This whole thing was HIS brainchild, although alot of other people refuse to admit it and blackball him. Today, at age 69, he stands alone as America's premiere Progressive Jazz and Jazz-Rock Fusion drummer, and is a member of the rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Whaaaaaat????? How can they forget the older guys who are dedicated enough to still be working?
Jimmy Holmes I agree I watched this just to see if seraphine was in it
Chicago Kicks Ass!🎷🎺
I agree 100% Seraphine Rules!!!!!
Just goes to show how people who consider themselves musically literate have serious holes in their knowledge and experience. Ricky Lawson is also a notable omission but Danny Seraphine is a truly outstanding drummer, his work on all Chicago albums up to VII is innovative, distinctive, eclectic and, as has been said, a key ingredient of the Chicago sound just as much as the horn section.
I'm embarrassed to say I am not familiar with him. But I will check him out.
I've seen 21 of those in concert. Indeed, some very great drummers left off: Joey Baron, Chad Smith, Keith Carlock, Toss Panos, Nick D'Virgilio, Ray Luzier, Gavin Harrison, Ed Greene, Carlos Vega, Larnell Lewis - and these are just other ones that I've actually seen in concert.
Love the Carter Beauford and Dennis Chambers back to back sequence 😊
Also, Alex VanHalen deserves to be on this list - dominated rock in late 70's thru 80's - very popular back then - he's the first influence for me - great era in music!
Definitely
Alex is underrated, but he's not top 100 all-time.
@@BaconIsNotBiceps I'd agree - technically nowhere near the top - but influentially, he was a giant in that era - damn few groups were bigger than VH - his style was very eclectic & fun - never knew what to expect from him - he deserves to be on this list just for numbers of charting hits for two decades - mega hits back then
this video was bs
Yep. Him too.
No Keith Moon? Transcribe "We Won't Get Fooled Again" - he was brilliant when he wasn't wasted, always underrated. Also where is Levon Helm
Then do "Happy Jack" and "I Can See For Miles".
Jeffrey Vincent Thompson, Actor Levon Helm ... Absolutely.
As far as Moon ... I think he was a little overrated. He played good in the studio, but live, he was super sloppy and overplayed a lot.
Jeffrey Vincent Thompson, Actor moon was a complete hack. Won’t get fooled again can be done by any beginner drummer
@@furlong337 I think it is somewhat subjective. Technical skills will be appreciated more by those who are keen drummers, the other side of the coin is what feels good to listen to... 'Soul Sacrifice' solo by Michael Shrieve at Woodstock for example. I do admit the randomised sound and beat of Jazz music does absolutely nothing for me. A continuing and rhythmic beat even if sped up and slowed down is far more enjoyable IMO. Fully respect and accept that other have their given preferences though. To each his own as they say.
@@furlong337 True. THANK YOU. Moon always sounds like he just found out he has 8 fucking toms. One trick pony and the trick can be heard at your local guitar center
This is a great compilation, very enjoyable. Here's my short list of drummers missing from the video: Michael Shrieve, Floyd Sneed, Keith Moon, Ringo Starr.
ringo??? you've got to be kidding
Jim Keltner with The Beatles individually and prominently at the Concerts for Bangladesh and George.
Did you forget the late old smoothie Charlie Watts ?
Those Jazz, Fusion, and Prog drummers are awesome!
I was happy to see Thomas Lang on here.
I am trying to read all the comments and to get to the end of all these: It's the neverending story. I understand that the list is for the skilled drummer, meaning technically proficient, but to me A good and skilled DRUMMER is not just about technique, and also how well you fit to the music of the band and add musicality to it. For that reason, i would list certainely Phil Collins for his drumming in Genesis early period with Peter Gabriel. Mickael Giles in King Crimson, Christian Wander in Magma, Keith Moon of course, Ringo evidently and Clem Burke. It's just my feeling :)
Bruno ROUSSEAU honestly, your comment is barely worth qualification but suffice to say, you don’t have a freaking clue. Those drummers all suck
@@furlong337: Excuse me...but did you say Michael Giles sucked??? WOW!!!
I agree...which is also why, Prince should added as well.
Collins and Giles are technically skilled, way superior than many on this list. I consider Phil one of the best drummers ever tbf.
Keith Moon is tricky but it makes sense plus his intuition certainly worked wonders for the type of music he played.
Ringo is controversial: The Beatles did have amazing drum compositions but there are many testimonies that say that they used session drummers to compose and records the trickiest drum parts, so I don't know the real extent of Ringo's drumming input.
Great to see Johnny Vidacovich on this list!!! Monster Drummer and a great human being!!! Really liked that you said most skilled instead of greatest of all time. So many great players in this world. My hats off to all of them! Thanks for posting!
All they showed initially was his hands and you knew it was Buddy Rich. Never be another like him.
Yup!
That is exactly what I said ... "That's Buddy ... nobody single stroke rolls like Buddy"
Just you guys opinion is all.
Yep...knew it right away.
Can't stand that guy.
Anybody else notice that 6 of these awesome drummers were the main and most skilled percussionists Frank Zappa used for touring and studio ?
And the others played with Miles!
Yep! Basically, if you ever were in the Zappa drum chair, you're by default in the top 0.0001% of drummers on the planet!
Not necesarily, Jim Gordon wasn't a premier drummer and Chester is defenitely not on the level of Vinnie or Terry, although amazing on his own right of course
Frank always wanted the best, and they HAD to read some crazy shit, too.
Luv that 6, count em 6 drummers in frank zappa bands ..My 1st zappa show was in 1980. People thought it was dave logeman, but I saw em in the fall of 1980..It was Vinnie C....Saw fz. the next year in 1981...Chad's 1st year..He's a great drummer....yes...I did notice the luv for frank zappas, drummers...Before the video even started, I said to myself, wonder how many fz drummers o. This list..oh yeaahh....6 of em...damn right!!!
Thanks for this. Many many inspiring drummers here. Hard to pick a favourite but I saw Buddy Rich at Ronnie Scott’s when I was 17 and for me he’s still the guv’nor.
If you told me you were gonna play 100 drum solos in a row, I'd a told ya, "I'm gonna go take a leak and get a beer." But you did it. Great job. I saw Zappa with Paul Humphries, one of if not the most " MUSICAL" drum solos of my life.I saw Steps Ahead with Peter Erskine at the Paradise in Boston. I sat right behind him.Another great nite.We opened for Mick Taylor in Boston at Nitestage. Bernand Purdie played. Another great drummer. He came out and sat right in front of us with a big smile on his face while we did our little opening set. Thanks Mr Purdie. I saw the video of Mahayishnu Orchestra with Billy Cobham. What a powehouse. I remember seeing Louie Bellson on Mike Douglas or Merve Griffin Show as a kid doing a one handed roll. Pretty cool. My friend had a cassette of Jimmy Smith with Grady Tate. I couldn't believe how sparse yet hoe effective his playing was. I love listening to Muddy Waters album "Hard Again" with Willie Big Eyes Smith. He's like the bus driver that lets you know he's gonna turn 4 blocks before it happens.Wraping it up,how about that recording of Buddy Rich on the bus yelling at the band. Ok who made the first drum?...........Termites.
Bill Bruford is my guy. Best snare anywhere and a true technical muslcal wizard
Vinnie Calaiuta smoking when playing clip! Hysterical
No, not hysterical - relaxed... :))
Ever heard the story of Vinnie eating sushi WHILE sight reading insanely difficult Zappa charts at a rehearsal? Just Google Vinnie Colaiuta sushi story. Crazy!
Love the 4 piece kit players.
Buddy Rich is in a class of his own.
Carl Palmer, of those still with us.
It would have been interesting for drummers, if they mentioned the brand of drums everyone played
Great list. I was glad to see Jim Gorden there. His work on Derek and the Domino's Live at the Fillmore was fantastic.
Jerry Kelliker
My brother played drums for 30 plus years until his passing away so I’ve always liked rock drummers. Jim Gordon wasn’t about flash or speed but his timing was unmatched by anyone. Check out his music credits for the albums he played on back in the day. He was a very sought after musician .Unfortunately his story has a very sad ending. Thanks for sharing
Jim played on some of the most played songs ever: I think he played on "layla" with Eric Clapton. He also played "Sundown" with (gosh I can't remember...oh it just came to me: Gordon Lightfoot...a clear example of less is more). Jim was a genius that "drugs" got on top of him.
Chick Webb, Keith Moon, Thomas Haake, Tony Royster Jr., Clyde Stubblefield, Todd Sucherman, and several others. Chick definitely one of the best jazz drummers to ever live, plus did it all with a substantial handicap. Look him up, very interesting guy.
I don't know shit about drumming but I'm glad to see Danny Carey made the list, proving I'm not a complete imbecile when I tell people he's my favourite :P His work on Schism is incredible!
It's hard to do a definite "list" of the absolute best musicians, as there's probably someone great that each of us has never heard, but this list of 100 VERY Skilled Drummers is very inspiring! Thanks for compiling this! :)
Seriously amazing video. A lot of work went into this and your reconnaissance of good drummers is amazing.
Phil Collins?? Anyone?? Bill Ward ?? Bobby Caldwell, Frank Beard?? If I missed Bill Ward sorry but I don't think I did! Oh well I'm glad Ginger, Billy Cobham, Bruford and Paice made it
@Ed Nicholson Bobby Caldwell, what a talent, yes he should be there.
@Ed Nicholson in the 80s yeah but from 1971- 1980 nope. But a beast on The lam especially tracks riding the scree and in the cage and on album Foxtrox track apocalypse on suppers ready and fountain of salmaticas on nursry crymes and the break down in robbery assault & battery on Trick of the tail. Phil Collins went simple after duke and introduced his new gated drum sounds that he started on one of peter Gabrielle tracks. Introducing it on his first solo and Abacab and so on.
Frank Beard is and will always be criminally under rated. A true Jazzer at heart. His work on Tejas was incredible.
This is a badass video. Thank you for putting it together. I could not help thinking that the drummers who wore suits or tuxedos must have suffered!
narada michael walden, cobham, husband, tony williams, peart, mastellano, bonham, bruford, donati, palmer, wackerman, and alan white! Impressive list!
Narada is an unknown BEAST to many bro....
Anyone who says Phil Collins isn't a great drummer should go back and listen to what he was doing 45 years ago
He KILLED with Brand X. (And Genesis)
Bruh The Cinema Show was made by Tony and Phil. Phil's legacy seems to be reduced to a basic drumbeat with tons of echo nowadays
Live AID ruined his career
@@rumenbirov2311Phil hated progressive rock by 1980. He was still a great drummer though and never forgot his jazz roots
Agree. He wouldn’t have made it that far in his career, if he wasn’t good.
As a Frank Zappa fanatic I am grateful your list includes almost all of his former drummers!
Missing Johnny Rabb, Vinnie Paul... but great list. Keep it growing! Make it 200 with the suggestions mentioned on the comment section ;)
It was a very cool video to see rolling Snippets of so many amazing drummers. Thank you for putting this together
Good to see that Phil Ehart made the list
Thank you for putting Aynsley Dunbar on this list.
Fabulous list, well-researched and very complete. I'm glad you included Dino Danelli of the Young Rascals, too, one of my favorite drummers of the time. But if I could name only one, it would be Buddy Rich, definitely, BUDDY RICH.
Al Jackson Jr....what an underappreciated master of the craft - -I love that video you showed a little snippet of, he owned the drum kit and his fellow band mates were just as blown away as we are!!
If they'd had a section for reggae he could have been there too. ALL of the reggae drummers listened to Mr Jackson.
The Master of Groove
My Favorites -
• Neil F’in” Peart
• Steve “Machine Gun” Smith
• Carl Palmer
• Nicko McBrain
• Mike Portnoy
All of them (excwpt maybe for Nicko) were heavily influenced by Buddy Rich, a beast on drums
Great list!
Wilfredo Reyes, Jim Capaldi, Don Brewer, Nigel Olsson, Jerry Edmonton- hey, it’s hard to make up a Best 100 list without leaving someone out. Thanks for the great compilation🍯.
Much better and more complete list than those other "top ten lists"!!
Great job!!
What no Clyde Stubberfieild the most sampled drummer ever and the greatest drummer James Brown ever had. Crazy
wasn't NO FUNK genre included. a non-list, list as far as I'm concerned.
Or the drummer from the Meters.
So true, even the other JB drummers... Im still happy Al Jackson JR was rightfully there :) Cheers
Clyde Stubblefield: the funkiest. Crazy feel, insanely good
Love how the genres were separate, although the best of these players transcend all genres. I've met several and played with some of these guys. I thought for the most part it was spot on. No one can satisfy everyone's taste.
That's a great list. I am a guitarist/keyboardist and I never played in a jazz or fusion band, but let's face it, those musicians are head and shoulders above the rest of us. Rich, Bellson, Chambers, White, etc., etc., are in another world. The best guys who made their fame in prog and rock are really jazz/fusion players who realized where the money was. The clips of the top guys in those categories you showed were all displaying jazz and big band prowess. The great Carl Palmer basically brought Buddy Rich's chops to prog and blew audiences away with his technique and musicality.
Maybe add Ringo Starr because of his musical contribution??? And because of his humbleness about his actual playing ability.
It's a list of most skilled players. There are thousands of drummers more skilled than Ringo. Ringo is a sick drummer in his own right though ❤
It's skill, not influence
Glad you don’t rate them 1 to 100 , they are all amazing!!
AWESOME!!! You'll never bail it 100%, but man, this is a great job!
very impressive compilation, and great choices as well! so many other drummers lists would include Travis Barker, Joey Jordison, Lars Ulrich, etc. while skipping over true greats such as Cozy Powell and Aynsley Dunbar.. it's obvious you put some thought into this.. great job!
Yes indeed, I still think Phil Collins should have definitely been here, but otherwise pretty solid list
Lars a good drummer LOL!
Great list, including many underrated drummers. I would have included Keith Moon, Phil Collins, Chad Smith, Manu Katché and Liberty DeVito.
Carmine!! I’m a product of his Realistic Rock series of books and tapes. Man he opened my drumming world up.
I saw his brother Vinny Appice give a drum clinic once in Dallas. He was awesome.
Wow!! This is the first drummer list with Dennis Chambers on it. Congratulations. Someone made a good list finally.
Frankie K agreed chambers was god with the brecker bros
Um...San fricken tana!!
Yeah Chambers, and Simon Phillips for once. So-called Fusion drummers are often overlooked because their genre straddles rock and jazz... among other styles (i.e. country) that's why I prefer to call it jazz-rock and those musicians should be allowed to be evaluated as either instead of being overlooked for lack of a category.
where?? what list..?
Thought Manu Katche would make it
Cassian YHVH I was soo expecting to see him.
Yes Cassian, Good Point...!!!
He and Paco Sery should have been here, but I guess that would have put too many jazz guys lol
I watched this video full, just to check that Lars Ulrich is not in the list. Now I am satisfied
Rizki Tri Satio fu
Early Lars is pretty good
Of Shannon Larkin of Godsmack, ugly kid joe, candlebox. He’s a phenomenal drummer
HAHA!
wow such original joke
You have certainly given homework on some of the greats. Thanks for the playlist of talent.
All of them are real legends! Our favorites of all time! The best video of Weckl has been chosen here. Minnemann is a phenomenon! But after 36 years on the instrument I still vote for Buddy & Steve! Never surpassed...
Excellent list !! great drummers, my favorite JEFF PORCARO ♡
I think he was the only one smiling! He was awesome
One of the truly great ones. His Dad wasn't too bad either.
Gene 'Atomic Clock' Hoglan.
That was truly enjoyable. Learned of some new ones. I'm sure others will suggest additions. The fact is, each of these drummers have been endowed with terrific talent and have adapted their skills in unique ways, thankfully. I might have added Barriemore Barlow and some others. What we learn overall is that the number 100 is too small when it comes down to skill on sticks and tubs.
How did Tony Royster Jr not make this list?
Good list! People will never totally agree but you did a good job. Plus the clips were quite good samples. The only one I think you can’t leave off is Keith moon. Not my favorite either, but so original and influential, he’s just 1 that probably has to be picked
Seriously though, really good job with what is 100 difficult choices
Would like to have seen Clive Bunker. Underrated, IMHO and seemingly long forgotten.
One of the most underrated drummers...His work with Ian is so killer..Barrymore is overlooked too...
Holy crap.. Someone actually remembers about Clive Bunker?
So very hard to pick the "BEST OF THE BEST" so I image that most people will choose the drummer in their favorite all time band so it's Neil Peart for me.
same
Copeland, Peart, Bonham, Hakim, and a 5th spot rotating cast.
God damn Jack DeJohnette sounds absolutely incredible. Everyone check out the Cellar Door Sessions by Miles for some more of Jack.
Great comprehensive list. All are simply amazing artists of their crafts. One modern drummer that I absolutely love to watch is JP Gaster from Clutch. Groove-machine.
Great Vid. When I first heard Rush in 77, (I was 13), I thought he was the greatest drummer ever. Still my fav, but I know in my heart, he would tell me nah dude, its at least 50 drummers in this video that were even better.
Prog without Gavin Harrison? I couldn't disagree more
Gavin Harrison!!! I cried when I didn't find him on this list and knowing that Porcupine Tree are not currently together
Arman Amirkhanyan I was just about to say too where the fuck is Gavin Harrison haha
Thats no shit
Me too... PT are no more togheter but Gavin Harrison and Steven Wilson are doing some really good solo stuff!!!
One more vote for Gavin Harrison. I was looking for him the whole time.
When this list is updated, please include Lee Pearson who plays with Chris Botti and was with Spyro Gyra. Quite a talented musician.
Pretty good list - I recognized about 75% of these talented musicians. But Phil Collins and Prairie Prince could easily have replaced a couple. And if you don't think Phil's the real deal, listen to his work with Brand X - "Nuclear Burn" for example.
Good list - I would also include Gerry Brown for R&B, Tim Yeung for speed metal, Dylan Elise for fusion - his "Amazing Drum Solo" is unbelievable - and Bert Smaak (with Acoustic Alchemy - Casino)
I think many of those drummers could fit into more than 1 genre. Anyways, so many great drummers.... glad to see Ralph Humphrey there. My personal faves from the list: Omar Hakim, Dennis Chambers, Bill Bruford and Vinnie Colaiuta.... but really, it's like being a kid in a sweet shop! Of course, you can't include everyone in a list of 100 drummers, but I'm surprised to see that Phil Collins is not in it... you may laugh but back in the day he had some chops (early Genesis and the first couple of Brand X albums).
Phil KILLED in Brand X!
Biggest snub for sure
What about Leon "Ndugu" Chancler? Glad to see Cozy Powell.
Saw him do a clinic at PASIC in 2015. It was great.
BTW: That was NOT Connie Kay it was Kenny Clarke...
Stewart Copelands snare my god!
His High-Hat is even better....saying that is crazy! How is that possible?...it is...
Stewart Copeland *period*
I was waiting for my favorites, John Blackwell Jr., Sheila E., Jerome Brailey, Gaylord Birch... but I still saved this clip so I can look up all these beast drummers I didn't know of.
The 2 biggest snubs here are:
- PACO SERY
- PHIL COLLINS
How can you do a prog rock drummers list and bot include Phil? Btw I'd have put the awesome Phil Ehart on prog and Simon Phillips on Fusion.
Other than that this list is amazing. Great eye for picking awesome drummers, even some underrated ones like Beauford or Ehart.
Dave DiCenso. And Phil Collins if only for his work with Brand X
Oh man! Phil's playing with Brand X is amazing. And TOTALLY unique! No one sounds like him.
Wtf? Phil was brilliant on Genesis too. His sound is unique indeed
Also, where's Ronnie Tutt on the list as far as "Rock" drummers? Elvis chose him for a reason (the eye contact between them and the fact that he watched Elvis's every move onstage). He should have been listed in the "Rock" category!!
I agree...Tutt not only played with Elvis but he was Jerry Garcia's first drummer in the Jerry Garcia Band.
I must have missed Danny Seraphine, Tris Imboden, walfredo reyes sr and walfredo reyes jr.
Al Those greats...!!!
Seraphine didnt keep time very well.
bit of a limited list, really, in terms of genre.
think Jaki Liebezeit has to be there, first to spring to mind. also Gene Hoglan, Brian Chippendale, Zach Hill, Kid Millions, Tony Allen, Chris Corsano (just the first handful to spring to mind)
Great list. Only person I could think missing for the time this was made is John Blackwell
Chester Thompson is so underrated.
Wud love to see mark craney, sheila e, phil collins, danny seraphine in the list (maybe extend the list to 150 😀)
Danny is on the list
Mark Craney for sure.👍
Gavin Harrison?
Gavin is truly other worldly. My absolute fav drummer. Anyone one here that is NOT familiar with him, check him out, you'll be very glad you did.
Fun to watch, too many more that could be included (Tommy Igoe to name one) thanks for posting.
I'd really forgotten how much Elvin Jones and Jack DeJohnette rocked my world as I haven't listened to much jazz since I was a teen/early 20s but I loved them. Great list, best I have ever seen by far, many drummers included who I would include but I never see other people recognize 👍
If I had to pick just one it would definitely be Gregg Bissonette. He's got incredible range and skill in all genres and his solos are always very inventive / inspiring. Honorable mention to Jeff Ballard who didn't make the list...
I was lucky enough to see Gregg with Steve Lukather's Nerve Bundle at The Baked Potato this last year, and in addition to everything you jus said, Gregg is the most entertaining and fun to watch drummer I've seen (and I've seen a lot).
Got to have Keith Moon.... maybe not as technical as some but a great natural talent on drums!! Almost forgot Phil Collins... his playing with brand x is unreal!!!
Moon was a clown.
Mike Shrieve only played one of the most famous drum solos of all time
Shrieve definitely deserves to be on such a list.
The thing about Mikes solo in "Soul Sacrifice", was that it was musical, and complemented the melody. Very few drummers can actually play music in a solo, usually they just show off a collection of tricks.
Mikes solo in Soul Sacrifice was Musical, and complemented the melody, which very few drum solos achieve.I heard Dennis Chambers with Santana do SS and it was such a completely alien collection of tricks that was absolutely non musical. So many drummers are completely non musical trick-meisters.
At something like age 19 as well!
Props for putting this together. You’re always going to have people telling you who you missed but whatever. Thanks for sharing!
"but whatever"
It can be both Fun and Intellectually Healthy for all of us to provide Reasonable Feedback/Suggestions regarding The Selections.
Through this Process, we all get to Learn about other Great Drummers who were omitted from The List.
Btw: I think that most/all of us are aware that such "Lists" are always "provisional" and "For Entertainment Purposes Only!" They are a Fun and Interesting Intellectual Exercise.
A great list, some top guys on it & it's very easy to go 'oh but where is'? - BUT - what about Mark Guiliana, Gavin Harrison, Richie Hayward, Keith Carlock, Bob Leith, John Weathers, the Marottas & Phil Collins too?
You forgot Keith Moon in rock. And Gavin Harrison in prog-rock.
And a _little_ detail. It doesn`t make too much sense to have Mike Mangini in the metal-club. He`s definitly a prog man.
Parabéns a quem postou o vídeo grandes mestres da bateria eu sempre assisto pra cada vez mais aprender e sempre aprendendo valeu gostei muito valeu
Prog Rock: Michael Giles!!!...what do you think?
Damn...finally...someone who understands my frustration!!!
I do agree. His work on 21st Century Schizoid Man is sublime!
But I can see why he would be snubbed, after KC he fell off the radar quickly. The one I don't get at all is Phil Collins, that man is a beast, a legend and a pop icon to boot, it should be impossible to ignore ffs
OK JM played with Elvin Jones & Gurtu so it's amazing in total - also missing here Keith Carlock, Chick Webb but a fine list IMO and Rich clip is the standout. Shrieve would earn his place if only for Woodstock solo, built on Rich
Good list. I'm a huge jazz fan but there were a few names I was not familiar with; I will have to check them out. Everyone will always have a few names they think should have been included. The ones I would have put in would include Joey Baron, Marvin "Smitty" Smith and a woman named Kim Thompson that I saw playing in Mike Stern's band a couple years ago. She was fantastic and deserves much wider recognition. Hey, I really got a big kick of the clip you had of Al Jackson Jr.; what a classy drummer. Anyway thanks for compiling all these clips.
