Ah Laura... the early 1980's I still remember listening to you on the radio my senior year in high school.
she was from brewster ,ny next town over from connecticut

Laura was a stunning women
It’s 2024 and still listening to the 80’s music !!!
Me too!
+ me
Will always listen to 80s
Oh yeah ! 🎉
80’s music sucked….and Laura Branigan cannot dance at all!
I had the biggest crush on her when I was a kid. Her voice was phenomenal. She had a 5 octave range. Definitely miss her singing
... She WAS great, and she ABSOLUTELY was a pretty creature ... Gone too soon !
Anyone who was a child of the 80's and didn't like Laura growing up probably was not into women, she was stunning.
@@robertkennedy8503She was a beauty and a great talent !
Totaly same here never in a million years one my favourites

Who could forget this song?!? And her?!?
Rest In Peace Laura Branigan. You were not only beautiful, but your voice was phenomenal.
For those of us who were fortunate enough to live our adolescence in the 80s, she never grew old, much less died because she will live forever in our hearts.
Wow!!! Your right she never did grow old
Thank You
One of the most beautiful women in the music industry, and a pitch perfect voice to match her good looks. She owns every song she sings. She left us too soon.
Even if she was butt ugly....with a voice like that, holy cow she can sing! But I'm glad she's pretty tho. She's just nailing her notes, her adlibs are sweet, a bit of a gruff female voice bordering on rocker. Kind of reminds me of a prime Ann Wilson of Heart. Laura is one of the G.O.A.T for sure.
Yes the awesome women from the 70's and 80"s were the best !! Jus love laura and this song !! I knew every word !! So much fun to sing a long w !! Lil voices in your head !! Lol
I didn’t realize she passed away so checked and sure enough she did in 2004 at only 52 years old of a brain aneurysm.
She is truly amazing
One of the strongest and vocal female voices.
My goodness this woman was not only stunningly talented but drop dead gorgeous. RIP
TRUE DAT, I mean, I agree!
Today's singers will never sound this good or look this amazing.
The 80s… best days of my life! 🕺
I don't remember much about the 80's lol

The 60s were way better.
They were the best times, so many good times.
Best age of music !!
God I miss the 80s

Everything was so much better then.
So do I...
The 80’s were great! 2024 the world has turned to total crap and so has the music!
@@PJ808HSays most everybody about their youth years, no matter when they happened. Stop thinking we were special.
This is live, unlike 99% of modern music.
This is the track put over a performance… this isn’t live.
duet with her .. ALL others lip synched
You think so, eh? 🤣 This track is as live as Michelle from the Mamas and the Papas eating a banana during the performance.
I think it's recorded soundtrack with some added live sound effect at 1:04.
Sorry, but they Memorexed stuff back then too.
Beautiful talented young lady who passed away far to young 😢
too
What a voice! Pitch perfect and ripping into it, this woman is magic and sends tingles down my spine.
If she needs fireworks and a huge light show, then her music is worthless. Imagine Bach using fireworks.
@@NoTaboos She is certainly superhuman.
She's lip syncing. Compare this with the music video or the track. Literally exactly the same. Also her face is barely moving when she's singing some of the most difficult sections. Even the most talented singers in the world can't replicate studio performances without any changes whatsoever. They might be worse or even better, but never exact.
LIsten to Michael Jackson singing Billie Jean live versus lip-syncing. Live is always slightly different, and you can hear breathing, and pitch is never spot-on perfect. It's near impossible even with in-ear monitors.
Here she is actually singing live: ruclips.net/video/yXFr-hqsVtk/видео.html
Beautiful woman, stunning voice. RIP.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@danielc.1169ow. I didn’t know she had already passed away. 😢
I agree. Laura Branigan was a beautiful woman with a wonderful voice and she moved well on stage also.
Just bring back the 80s
I'll vote for that lol
90s also
Thank you, Laura, for all the good time I had with your music more than 40 years ago, and actually ever since. Watching this video brings back the good old times. And I don't feel ashamed, that as a teenager I fell in love with you 🙂. Very sad, that you had to go so early.
I loved this song! Her voice was so incredibly beautiful!!
@@aileen9553 can you clarify please?
there will never be another she was beautiful and talented
she also was good in spanish as with Luis Miguel in this song.ruclips.net/video/lDO3dV3p1Rs/видео.html
It's timeless because she is so very good and so is the song itself. She claims it was about someone she knew....I think that someone stared back at her every time she looked in the mirror.
This song is a banger for sure, but what in the world is her fascination about this "Gloria". Maybe this song should be called "Laura" because it feels like projection. Or if it's not projection maybe "Gloria" should have put a song out called, "Mind your own business, Laura". Or maybe Laura is jealous because Van Morrison wrote a song about Gloria. Who knows but Laura really needs some self-control, am I right?
She left us way too young. A voice of liquid gold. Her Brannigan LP is classic. RIP. I always wanted Laura to hook up with Donna Summer. Now only on heavenly golden stages.
I played this for some young people at work just to see what they thought. They said WOW! Who is she ? She's fantastic 👍😊❤️
Yeah.....that's 'cos U R the boss, and they wanted to keep their jobs. 😂🤣😅
I often played "old" music like for my elementary school students, and they loved it.

Laura is so beautiful her vocals are amazing. This is one of the best performances I’ve seen. I was never born in the 80’s yet that era always felt nostalgic to me.
40 years ago and I remember watching this like it was yesterday. She is gone but Thank God her music is still with us. I miss her.
Tomorrow never comes, yesterday for ever💕
I'm crushed! I just found out she is no longer with us, and at such a young age.
Earlier today her voice came up on the car stereo. . .it was Self Control. Now, we are here. Our tributes to such a fine singer whose voice was the air we breathed as children.
What an 80s girl and what a star. Brilliant performance. 80s has to be one of the best decades in history for music.

70s easily as good
@@henrywilloughby8333 why ?
The world went dark when we lost Laura.
Well, if you're going to remembered for one song, this is one of the best!
Self control was good too but I take your point.
You need to listen to her cover of "The Power Of Love".
I wish I have met the girl .💗
I don't know why I was recommended this video, but I'm grateful. What a talent..
She came back to do Ladies of the 80s and it was an unforgettable performance. Miss her and that time so much!
Never understood why she didn't have more hits. Such a great voice. And beautiful!
The song was already a hit in another language and country. She didn't write the music.
I believe one of her other songs 'self control' did pretty well.
What a voice
Competition has always been tough. There were many other great voices and hits in those years.
@@h.e.l4385 Well it was the 80s, the decade of brilliant artists and diverse music.

Since 2004 not quite but close . If she had lived I ve no doubt she would continued her great singing

80’s were the best. Laura was one of the reasons why. Absolutely tremendous talent. Such a sad ending but thankful for her angelic voice. RIP Gods Angel.🙏🙏🥰🥰
The most beautiful woman in the world. I still miss her.
Spectacular performance; she, honestly, sounds better live than she does in studio. That’s what you call a real artist.
This was lip synced as were all music shows during this time period
@@paulsonj72 I'm not saying she isn't here, but LB was known for not syncing on TV shows.
I don’t know if she was lip syncing during this performance, but this video very obviously has the studio track overlaid. We are not hearing the original broadcast audio track here.
@@paulsonj72 No. The vocalization is different from the single. The backing track is the record.
Wow. I totally remember this song. Always thought that Laura Branigan was very attractive and, man, could she sing and belt out those powerful notes! Pretty soulful and sultry performer. Thought that she'd be a bigger star, but the music competition was pretty stiff for the airwaves circa 1982. And thanks for posting this. Solid Gold was a pretty big part of my teenage years. The only way a broke teenager who really loved music could see the biggest and hottest musical acts of the day! Thanks again.
I still listen to Self Control all the time
@@glacialimpala Laura could sing but didn’t have rhythm. One of the all time greats.
@@glacialimpala Gloria and Self Control are covers of Italian songs: Gloria by Umberto Tozzi (1979) and Self Control by Raf (1983 I guess).
Self Control was one of my favorite songs from Laura Branigan. It's such a cool pop tune but she really made it her own with the soulful vocals.
@@pickoftheglitter Her covers were great but that's probably why her fame was kind of limited. She didn't really have any major hits beyond the covers.
This is all I needed to dig out my 'Best of Branigan' cassette! I had a girlfriend named Gloria, but sadly she passed in 2014. RIP to both of these foxes!!
I was 8yrs old in '82 and I still remember dancing like a fool to this song as a kid. ❤❤❤ Flashdance. Every song rocks in that movie but this one is Top 3 for me. I still dance like a fool whenever I hear this song. Much Love ❤️ and Respect Ms.Laura Branigan
Me too, I danced to this song too. But as I grew up I noticed that there were toxic people in my life and just had to remove them. Then I reheard this song, and wow, I came to the realization that Laura Brandigan is one of he most toxic people in the world. Why in the world does she care so much about "Gloria". I've had people just like her in my life and I had to get hem out. Gloria should have a song telling Laura to mind her own business and let her run her own life. And the song is contradictory as well. In one line she says "no one seems to be calling you" and then the next line is "I guess you can keep them hanging on the line". What? Who is she going to keep hanging on the line if nobody is calling? I know people like this and they are toxic. Laura needs some self-control.

Underrated talent. I remember this song as if it was yesterday.
How the time flies...
@@tubehicks7037 So true
Underrated, overrated. Who cares what other people think?
@@ivanjulian2532 When genuine talent gets overlooked it gradually fades away, and that void is replaced by a product of lesser quality. Over time, this process lowers the bar for new artists, and conditions the public to accept increasingly lower standards. When very low quality, low cost, products continue to turn over a decent profit, there's no longer an incentive to invest extra money into high quality music.
