- U.S. Army Maj. Gen. William Zana, director of Strategic Plans and Policy and International Affairs at the National Guard Bureau, prepares to serve as a Sentinel, hours before his retirement date at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia on May 31, 2024. In 1987, then Pvt. Zana was assigned to the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment, known as "The Old Guard,” and remained at that assignment until 1991, returning for one last shift as a Tomb Guard to mark his final hours as a commissioned officer in the United States Army. Former enlisted and now MajGen. Very great accomplishment. Enjoy your retirement General.
mikescumacher9715 : It is , indeed, a " very great accomplishment" that , MG William Zana , Army National Guard ( ARNG) , was a Sergeant in the Regular Army, from 1989 to 1991@ 3d U .S. Infantry, guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, however, it is NOT uncommon for Generals to have been Sergeants , anymore than Admirals were once Petty Officers , as in the case of General Alfred M. Gray, USMC, Commandant of the Marine Corps ( 1987-1991) , Who was a Sergeant in the Infantry in the Korean War, and , the Director of the United States Department of Homeland Security, under President Donald Trump , also a Sergeant in the Marine Corps Infantry. 🇺🇲🇺🇸🪖🎖️💣💥🔥🗡️🛡️🦅🌎⚓😈🐶
I ate breakfast this morning. Boring.......!
Incredible. Then SGT and now retiring MG: a general officer proudly wearing the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier Honor Badge. Great service to America. On to the next chapter of life!
What kind of service is walking around a tomb all fancy-like? What does it accomplish aside from tourism?
Thank you for your service sir.. As a Former Scots Guardsmen (1974-77) I totally got your comment about still being ready to do your duty, for YOU it was at the Tomb, for me it was Windsor castle, Buckingham Palace, Street lining on the Mall, or perhaps a sports field in a foreign land when it was trooping the Colours Day in the UK. Since 1974 I have served a total of 33 years in the Uk and Canadian forces, been medically retired since 2009, and not a day goes by when I do not think of those glory days in uniform. I have been to Arlington and watched with pride those young men who Stand a Post at the Tomb. To you and all our common brothers who willingly Stand a Post either Foreign or Domestic I SALUTE YOU 🫡🫡🫡🫡…..💂♂️🪖⛑️🏴🇨🇦
Enjoy your retirement Sir! Thank you for honoring those who served! And paid the ultimate price! God Bless You!
I love this. Every American needs to see the Old Guard at Arlington.
Those you protect will meet you on the other side with a sharp salute and a well done 👍🏻🇺🇸🙏🏻🫲
That would have been extremely cool if he could have taken a post as a tomb guard in his dress blues as a Major General.
Thankful for his service, and thankful for his ability to properly speak and articulate what selfless service feels like.
It is difficult to put into words what it is like, and he did a great job.
Thank you, sir. On to greener pastures.
Thank you for your service

Well done Brother!
Retirement becomes truly fulfilling when you possess two essential elements: ample financial resources and a meaningful purpose in life. Make prudent investment choices to secure good returns and ensure a comfortable retirement.
This is why I've entrusted a fiduciary with my investment decisions. Many underestimate advisors until emotions lead to losses. My advisor crafted a tailored strategy aligning with my long-term goals, guiding entry and exit points for the equities I focus on. This has grown my portfolio to $780k, generating sufficient dividends for my household's needs.
jennifer alaine is the licensed fiduciary I use. Just research the name. You’d find necessary details to work with a correspondence to set up an appointment.
